Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of social media in supporting Generation Z’s language creativity in Indonesian language learning and to identify the potential and challenges associated with its use. The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach. The research subjects consisted of Generation Z senior high school students who had experience using social media for learning purposes. Data were collected through an online questionnaire. The quantitative data were analyzed using frequency distributions and mean scores. The results showed that students’ intensity of social media use was relatively high, with a mean score of 3.4. However, its utilization for Indonesian language learning remained limited. Students’ experience in creating Indonesian-language content obtained a mean score of 2.8, while their ability to develop language creativity obtained a mean score of 3.0. Students also demonstrated positive tendencies toward creating Indonesian-language content and sharing educational content, with mean scores of 3.2 and 3.1, respectively. In contrast, the perception that social media could accelerate their understanding of learning materials obtained a mean score of 2.3, while the perceived improvement in confidence in expressing ideas obtained a mean score of 2.4. Prolonged social media use was also identified as one of the challenges, with a mean score of 3.3. These findings indicate that social media has the potential to serve as a space for the production, expression, and sharing of linguistic ideas; however, it cannot yet be positioned as the primary learning medium. Optimizing its use requires targeted pedagogical strategies, teacher guidance, and strengthened digital literacy so that social media can more effectively support the language creativity and language skills of Generation Z.

Abstract

The development of social media has encouraged the emergence of various language varieties in digital communication, one of which is slang language that is widely used by university students. The use of slang not only reflects creativity in vocabulary formation but is also associated with social functions in interactions among users. This study aims to analyze the forms and social functions of slang used by university students on social media. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and interviews with university students who actively use social media. The data were analyzed through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings revealed 15 slang forms, namely seng, mager, kepo, wkwk, cuy, OOT, spill, gabut, PAP, gacor, gamon, baper, kuy, bestie, and gokil. These forms demonstrate various word-formation processes, including acronyms, shortening, the use of English elements, form modification, and onomatopoeia. In terms of social functions, slang is used to indicate familiarity and solidarity, express emotions, and facilitate concise and efficient communication. These findings indicate that slang is a dynamic language variety that develops within students’ digital communication and reflects linguistic creativity as well as adaptation to the interactional context of social media.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to describe the form and function of registers that appear in the process of buying and selling merchandise (merch) among the BTS Army Indonesia fan community on social media X.  The popularity of the Korean Wave has created a fan community for the famous idol group, BTS, in Indonesia. This has led to the development of unique codes and registers in interactions between fans. This study uses a qualitative method with descriptive presentation techniques. Data collection techniques were carried out using observation, note-taking, and screen capture methods. The data collected were registers found in Army merch sales posts on social media X. The results of the study show that the dominant form of register is through the process of abbreviation or acronyms, such as WTS, WTB, WTT, WTO, PC, POB, and WH. These registers have three main functions. The first function is the instrumental function, which expresses requests to buy/sell/exchange. The second function is the regulatory function, which regulates social behavior through prohibitions/rules. For example, HnR and Bundle. The representational function was also found and aims to convey facts or conditions of goods, such as good condi. These registers function as concise communication tools that are understood exclusively by the Army community. These registers then become tools or codes in the buying and selling process carried out within their social sphere.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of ineffective sentences found in students’ compositions in Indonesian language learning and to identify the most dominant aspects of sentence ineffectiveness. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The data consisted of sentences in students’ compositions that demonstrated ineffectiveness based on seven indicators: sentence structure equivalence, parallelism, conciseness, precision, cohesion, accuracy, and logicality. Data were collected through documentation and analyzed through the stages of identification, classification, interpretation, revision, and descriptive presentation. The results showed 60 instances of ineffective sentences, consisting of 12 instances of structural inequivalence (20%), 7 instances of non-parallel structures (11.67%), 18 instances of wordiness (30%), 6 instances of imprecision (10%), 8 instances of lack of cohesion (13.33%), 5 instances of inaccuracy (8.33%), and 4 instances of illogicality (6.67%). Wordiness was the most dominant form of sentence ineffectiveness, whereas illogicality was the least frequently identified. These findings indicate that students still experience difficulties in using language elements economically and in constructing sentences with clear structures and logical relationships among ideas. The findings highlight the importance of strengthening effective-sentence instruction through writing, editing, and revision activities to help students produce writing that is clear, concise, cohesive, accurate, and logical.

Abstract

Social media has become one of the main communication spaces for adolescents and has influenced the patterns of Indonesian language use in their daily lives. This study aims to analyze the influence of social media on Indonesian language use among adolescents and to identify its positive and negative impacts. This study employed a qualitative approach using a literature review method. Data were obtained through a search of relevant literature using Google Scholar with the keywords “social media influence,” “Indonesian language,” “adolescents,” “slang,” and “language use on social media.” The data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively through data reduction, thematic categorization, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that social media is associated with changes in patterns of Indonesian language use among adolescents. The main findings include the widespread use of slang, code-switching, and the emergence of new vocabulary and expressions as forms of linguistic creativity. On the other hand, the use of formal language in digital communication tends to be more limited due to the informal nature of social media interactions. Thus, social media has a complex influence because it can serve as a means of enriching vocabulary and promoting linguistic creativity while also creating challenges in maintaining appropriate Indonesian language use in formal contexts. Therefore, Indonesian language education and digital literacy need to be strengthened to help adolescents adjust their language use to different communication contexts while maintaining linguistic creativity in digital spaces.
