Abstract

This study examines the use of Instagram as a digital information system and promotional media in a university context. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through direct observation of the university’s official Instagram account and semi-structured interviews with three informants, consisting of one campus Instagram administrator and two active students. The findings indicate that Instagram functions not only as a channel for disseminating academic information, announcements, and campus activities, but also as a strategic promotional medium that shapes institutional image and public perception. Content integration between informational and promotional messages allows universities to communicate more efficiently while maintaining audience engagement through visual storytelling and interactive features. The study also reveals that consistent content management, visual coherence, and responsive interaction contribute to increased trust and participation among students. Overall, Instagram emerges as an integral component of digital communication strategies in higher education, supporting transparency, branding, and relationship building with stakeholders. These findings highlight the importance of managing social media platforms systematically to maximize their potential as digital information systems and promotional tools for universities.

Abstract

This article discusses the concept of nasakh in the Sunnah and its relevance to adaptive Qur’anic exegesis in the Indonesian multicultural context. The main issue is how nasakh, often understood as abrogation, can be reframed as an instrument of flexibility within Islamic law that supports Islam as a mercy to all creation (rahmatan lil-‘alamin). This research employs a qualitative-descriptive approach by analyzing classical ulumul Qur’an literature, Sunnah, and contemporary exegesis. The findings reveal that nasakh in the Sunnah is not merely abrogation but a gradual strategy (tadarruj) in the formation of Islamic law. Concrete examples include the prohibition of temporary marriage (mut‘ah) and the change in the law regarding grave visitation. The wisdom of nasakh includes safeguarding welfare, ensuring justice, providing convenience, and testing faith. Meanwhile, multicultural tafsir emphasizes tolerance, justice, and religious freedom, as seen in Indonesian scholars’ interpretations of verses prohibiting insults to other deities (Q. al-An‘am:108), freedom of belief (Q. al-Kahf:29, Q. Yunus:99), and justice toward non-Muslims (Q. al-Mumtahanah:8, Q. al-Māidah:8). The integration of these two perspectives demonstrates that the concept of nasakh can serve as an adaptive exegesis paradigm supporting harmony within Indonesia’s plural society.

Abstract

The Mohibadaa tradition is a women’s beauty ritual of Gorontalo that is deeply rooted in local wisdom and continues to be practiced within customary and religious contexts. This ritual integrates natural body treatments, cultural symbolism, and spiritual values that shape women’s identities within the Gorontalo social structure. This study aims to examine the cultural meanings, social functions, and sustainability challenges of the Mohibadaa tradition amid the dynamics of modernity. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with an ethnographic approach, utilizing literature review, documentation analysis, and interpretative analysis of the ritual’s symbolic meanings. The findings indicate that Mohibadaa functions not only as a traditional beauty practice but also as a medium for identity formation, the strengthening of women’s solidarity, and the internalization of customary and religious values. Despite facing challenges arising from changing lifestyles and the preferences of younger generations, the ritual plays a significant role in preserving local culture. Mohibadaa remains relevant as an adaptive and meaningful symbol of Gorontalo women’s local wisdom.

Abstract

This study examines the use of figurative language in Chapter 1 of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight novel with a focus on its narrative functions and stylistic significance. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the data were collected through documentation by identifying and classifying sentences containing figurative language in the selected chapter. The analysis reveals that metaphor, personification, hyperbole, and simile are the dominant figurative forms used by the author. Among these, metaphor appears most frequently and plays a crucial role in representing the protagonist’s emotional state, psychological tension, and sense of alienation. Personification contributes to the vivid portrayal of setting and atmosphere, while hyperbole intensifies emotional expression and simile clarifies imagery through explicit comparison. The findings demonstrate that figurative language is strategically integrated into the narrative structure to enhance meaning, emotional depth, and reader engagement. This study highlights the importance of stylistic analysis in understanding literary texts and emphasizes the relevance of figurative language studies for both literary criticism and translation research, particularly in the context of contemporary popular novels.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of code-switching in the film K-Pop Demon Hunters from a sociolinguistic perspective. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research examines the forms, social functions, and cultural meanings of code-switching found in the film’s dialogues and song lyrics. The data were collected through careful observation and transcription of utterances containing language alternation, which were then classified based on Poplack’s typology: tag-switching, intersentential switching, and intrasentential switching. The findings reveal that tag-switching is the most frequently occurring type, indicating a strong tendency to preserve Korean cultural terms within English-dominated discourse. Furthermore, code-switching functions not only as a communicative strategy but also as a means of expressing emotions, constructing character identity, and representing Korean cultural authenticity in a global media context. The study highlights how language choice in popular films reflects broader processes of cultural negotiation and globalization, positioning code-switching as a significant sociolinguistic phenomenon in contemporary audiovisual media.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of discourse produced by the television program Xpose on Trans7 in its coverage of pesantren. It examines how Xpose Trans7 frames the relationship between kiai and santri, and compares this framing with the concepts of ta’dzim and khidmah as practiced within the pesantren tradition. The analysis employs Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis framework. The findings indicate that the discourse produced is characterized by polarization and sensationalism. At the textual level, the program employs sarcastic narratives such as “wealthy kiai” versus “santri who give envelopes,” reinforced by negative analogies that reduce adab (ethical conduct) to the notion of punishment. Xpose Trans7 frames the kiai–santri relationship as exploitative and unjust. This framing stands in contrast to the traditional concepts of ta’dzim and khidmah, which are understood by santri as forms of spiritual devotion aimed at seeking blessing (barakah). The discourse reflects an underlying ideological divergence, wherein modern egalitarian values are mobilized to challenge the authority and traditional practices of pesantren.

Abstract

This study explores the phenomenon of aestheticizing sadness in digital content as a form of emotional expression in the digital culture era. Using a qualitative approach and content analysis methods on academic literature and humanities theory, this study maps aesthetic practices in visual, narrative, and communal dimensions. The results show that digital content emphasizing sadness functions as a means of emotional communication that allows individuals to express themselves while building intense and collective social interactions. This aesthetics of sadness creates an immersive experience that strengthens online community solidarity and shapes a flexible yet consistent digital identity. These findings contribute to the understanding of digital humanities, sociology of emotions, and cultural studies by emphasizing the importance of aesthetics as a mechanism of interpretation and social interaction in the virtual world. This study recommends further research on the psychological, social, and cultural implications of the aestheticization of emotions in digital media.

Abstract

Schools as formal educational institutions have a strategic function in shaping children's character through the socialization of moral values and behavioral screening, which emphasizes the holistic internalization of Islamic values. This study uses a conceptual approach to analyze how schools play a role in shaping character, assessing students' moral behavior, and working with families as educational partners. The results of the study show that the integration of Islamic value-based character education, the moral evaluation process by teachers, and family involvement in reinforcing values at home creates a comprehensive moral ecosystem. Schools become arenas for moral learning experiences, where children learn to evaluate their own actions, understand social consequences, and consistently internalize ethical values. This entire process prepares children to become individuals who are not only academically intelligent, but also morally mature, socially responsible, and highly spiritually aware. These findings emphasize the importance of synergy between schools, teachers, and families to support the formation of sustainable Islamic character

Abstract

Critical literacy is an essential competence in Indonesian language education, enabling students to analyze, evaluate, and reflect on texts by considering their social, cultural, and ideological dimensions. This study aims to develop an Indonesian language learning model that integrates Minangkabau mamangan adat with Vygotsky’s social constructivist theory to enhance students’ critical literacy. As a form of local wisdom rich in philosophical, moral, and socio-cultural values, mamangan adat serves as an authentic and contextual learning medium that connects language, culture, and power relations. This theoretical study employs a qualitative approach using a systematic literature review of 72 sources published between 2019 and 2024, covering social constructivism, ethnopedagogy, critical literacy, and Minangkabau local wisdom. The analysis, conducted through narrative synthesis, reveals that mamangan adat aligns closely with key principles of Vygotskian theory, particularly cultural mediation, the zone of proximal development, and social scaffolding. The integration of mamangan adat facilitates critical literacy development through symbolic meaning deconstruction, cultural value analysis, and critical reflection on social power relations. The proposed framework emphasizes dialogic learning and positions students as active constructors of knowledge within culturally responsive pedagogy.
