The data collection instrument with written test consisted of pre-test and post-test. The test in this study used SPSS 20. The result was significant with the experimental class mean score 9.17 for the pre-test and 15.50 for the post test. The result of Lavene-Independent Sample statistical calculations from the t-test Sig. (2-tailed) indicates that the group significant value is 0.000, and the significance level is 0.05. This means that the significant value is smaller than the level of significance {0.000,<0.05}. So that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It can be concluded that there was an effect between the writing achievement of students who were taught using movie poster media and students who were not. In addition, the learning process using movie poster media could make students more enthusiastic and active in class. Keywords: Movie Poster, Effect, Writing, Achievement.

This research is a quantitative research with quasi-experimental design. It was carried out on eighth grade students of SMP N 3 Huta Raja Tinggi in Academic Year 2021/2022. The total number of population was 119 students and probability sampling with cluster random sampling was used to determine the sample. The total of sample was 61 students and experimental class consisted of 31 students, whereas controlled class consisted of 30 students. The writer taught both experimental and controlled classes in eight meetings. In experimental class, the writer used Cooking Mama: Let’s Cook application as a media of teaching and learning process while in controlled class the writer used conventional method. In collecting the data, a writing test of procedure text was distributed before and after the treatment. Then, the data obtained were analysed in three main steps: preliminary data (normality and homogeneity test), dependent t-test and hypothesis test. Eventually, the researcher found that tobserved was higher than ttable in the significant level of 0,05 (tobserved = 4,769 > ttable = 1,671) at the degree of freedom (df) = 59. Therefore, alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It can be concluded that the utilization of Cooking Mama: Let’s Cook application gives significant effect in writing procedure text by eighth grade students. Keywords: Cooking Mama Application; Junior High School; MALL (Mobile Assisted-Language Learning); Procedure Text; Writing.

Abstract

The present study was dedicated to investigating whether productive discipline strategies are effective strategies in order to reduce second language anxiety of Iranian students and improve their language achievements. To achieve the study's aim, a sample test of KET was administered to 45 students as a homogenizing test. Based on the results, the participants whose scores fell between 1 SD above and below the mean were chosen as the participants of the study and were then randomly assigned to one control and one experimental group. Those who were in the experimental group received productive strategies. The students in the control group were controlled by the traditional discipline strategy method. At the outset of the study, a pre-test was given to the participants to ensure that there were no significant difference between the experimental and control groups regarding the variable under investigation.  This study was carried out during a 40-hour course spread over 2 months. In addition, the participants were asked to fill a Second Language Anxiety Questionnaire (Howritzs, 1986) and also a 24-item questionnaire of classroom discipline (Lewis, 2001). At the end of term, all the participants were tested regarding their achievement in second language and reduction in their second language anxiety by a posttest similar to the pre-test. All in all, it was concluded that the employment of the productive strategies contribute to the improvement of students’ second language achievement and reduction of their second language anxiety.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to find out whether there is a significant effect of English Grammar Test (EGT) application on students’ grammar mastery of simple past tense at the eighth grade of Junior High School. Quantitative research method with quasi-experimental design was used in this research. It was conducted at the eighth grade of MTs. Islamiyah Perkebunan Tanjung Kasau. The population consisted of 60 students from two classes. Using saturation sampling method, the two classes namely VIII-A and VIII-B were selected as the sample of this study with each class consisted of 30 students. Furthermore, VIII-A class was selected as control class and VIII-B class as experimental. In collecting the data, multiple choice and “fill in the blank” test forms were used in this study. The tests were then distributed in two ways; 1. Pre-test was distributed before the treatment: 2. Posttest was distributed after the treatment. Furthermore, the data was analyzed by using statistical formulation and Microsoft Excel 2013 with 0,05 significance level. After the data was analyzed, it can be found that the value of tobserved was higher than ttable. It can be seen from tobserved (3,839) > ttable (2,001) at the degree of freedom (df) = 58. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. Today's senior high school pupils have difficulty learning to write. Students are expected to be able to express a variety of meanings (interpersonal, conceptual, textual) in interactional oral texts and monologue. Some researchers have demonstrated that using an effective strategy is one of the ways to solve problems; inquiry-based learning is one such strategy. This study aims to determine the significance of the effect of inquiry-based learning on students' narrative writing ability in tenth grade senior high school. Using a quasi-experimental design, thirty-one students in grade X-I and thirty-one students in grade X-II were studied. Using the purposive sample method, the experimental class X-I and the control class X-II were selected. The experimental class was taught using an inquiry-based learning strategy, while the control class was taught without such a strategy. In this investigation, essay tests were used for data collection. The examinations were administered before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the treatment. The result indicates that tobserve = 2,557, while ttable indicates 1,671 with df = 60 and a significance level of 0.05. Consequently, this Ha is approved while the H0 is rejected. In conclusion, inquiry-based learning is an effective strategy for the teaching and learning process because it allows students to engage in discussion to produce their finest writing product. Keywords: Inquiry-based learning, Narrative text, Teaching and learning Strategy, Writing skill
