Abstract

Discussing about Islam really takes time with a long or unlimited scale when viewed from a comprehensive multi-segmentation. Even some non-Western scholars are trying their luck researching Islam. It is generally known that Islam under the Prophet Muhammad was full of peace. After his death, peace between fellow Muslims seems not to be a shared dreams, until now sectarian conflicts often occur, namely Shia and Sunni Islam. In this study, this time the author tries to write about the topic of Islam in the Vortex of Conflict between Shia and Sunni, which is focused on the boundaries of the Safavid era. In this case, this research uses a historical approach and research methods using literature studies. The results of this study found that first, before the formation of the Safavid dynasty, Islam was hit by sectarian conflicts between Shia and Sunnis after the death of the Prophet Muhammad, because for general reasons they were still debating who should replace Rasulullah SAW as the leader of Muslims. Second, the establishment of the Safavid dynasty in the era of King Ismail I caused the Sunni sect and all its activities to be converted to Shia sects in the Persian region either in fiqh or theology..

Abstract

As one of the most protracted issues in the world politics, South China Sea (SCS) disputes have frequently sparked boiling tension among claimant states- China, Taiwan Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, and in particular the Philippines - one of the most assertive claimant states aside China. During the administration of President Benigno Aquino III, the Philippines managed to internationalize the case of SCS disputes and ultimately won a victory over China in the Permanent Court Arbitration (PCA), the Netherlands. However, when a government transition occurred from Benigno Aquino III to Rodrigo Duterte in 2016, those PCA credits appeared to be not followed up by President Duterte. This ensued due to the differences in views and political will between Aquino and Duterte on foreign policy. This article aims to unravel and explain on the Philippines’ foreign policy alteration towards China over SCS disputes under Duterte’s administration, using the concept of Realpolitik and Rational Choice to comprehend why President Duterte decided to seemingly abandon his predecessor’s policies. This research employed qualitative method - data collection was obtained from the secondary data and literature study, comprising written documents related to the Philippines foreign policy in responding to the disputes. The results showed that the reason why Duterte abandoned his predecessor’s footpath is because he assumed that the way Aquino applied such assertive approach is not effective enough in resolving this prolonged maritime jurisdictional disputes between the Philippines and China. In this way, Duterte applied a more considerate diplomatic approach to China as his rational choice in a sense that he would rather take cooperative instead of confrontational way of settlement in resolving the disputes of maritime territory over the South China Sea.

Abstract

Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing infractions by fishing vessels and the Chinese Coast Guard, which hurt the economy and infringed on Indonesia’s sovereign rights and disrupted maritime security, were the cause of the North Natuna Sea crisis. The purpose of this article is to describe Indonesia’s attempts to combat illegal fishing there. This kind of research is descriptive, using qualitative data analysis strategies, and draws secondary data from literature reviews and the internet. The theory of regional cooperation by K.J. Holsti and Hans J. Morgenthau as well as the idea of maritime security by Scott Burchil and Makmur Keliat will be used to analyze the issue. The findings demonstrate that in order to effectively address marine issues, particularly in this region where Indonesia is present, a robust framework for maritime cooperation is required. Illegal fishing victims As a result, the AMF promotes maritime cooperation by formulating suggestions that result in bilateral and trilateral agreements. However, there are barriers to the ASEAN Way approach, making it less effective, as a result of divergent points of view on the problem of IUU Fishing within ASEAN.

Abstract

An anarchic international structure system, power is needed by every country to be able to survive. It is also said that the ultimate goal of the state is survival, not achieving power. This means that power is a means, not an end. This is also what Iran does in an international system that is ostensibly controlled by the United States. Iran, with its nuclear possession and development program, is considered a force that can threaten the forces that dominate the region and of course the United States. Iran's nuclear possession in the Middle East will affect other countries around it. In the view of defensive neorealism, Iran in the development of nuclear technology is a form of awareness of safeguarding its national security from the threat of hegemonic forces in the region and of course from the United States which threatens the sovereignty of the Iranian state. Because nuclear is considered as a power possessed by the state besides military and economic power.

Abstract

Abstract

As a predominantly Muslim country with consistent economic development and growth rates as well as political and social stability, Malaysia is now a leader in the world's halal industry. In the State of the Global Islamic Report (SGIE) report from 2018 to 2022, Malaysia has successively led the best Islamic economic system by defeating countries with the largest Muslim populations in the world such as Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and other major Islamic countries. Differences in government policies or strategies in managing the halal industry in Malaysia and other Muslim countries are interesting to study considering that many countries with the largest Muslim population in the world exceed Malaysia, for example, Indonesia with a percentage of Muslim population reaching 87.20%, Saudi Arabia reaching 97%, and Turkey which reached 99.20%. This study uses a descriptive descriptive method by collecting several journals and annual reports on the Global Islamic Economy. In this study, the author will discuss what is behind the Malaysian government in developing their halal industrial sector and the key factors that make Malaysia dominate the halal industry in the world.
