Abstract

Indonesia experienced a 300% surge in Gen Z investors entering the capital market during the pandemic, yet financial literacy remains critically low at 47.2% (OJK 2023). This study investigates how financial literacy influences Gen Z's investment interest, examining risk perception as a moderator and religiosity as a mediator. A mixed-method approach combined quantitative surveys of 500 Gen Z investors with qualitative netnography of TikTok/Instagram investment content. Key results indicate financial literacy significantly predicts investment interest (β = 0.68), but social media content exerts four times stronger initial impact on engagement decisions. Religiosity actively mediates sharia investment intent by strengthening ethical alignment, while risk perception moderates literacy effects by reducing speculative behavior. These findings necessitate redesigning digital financial education through algorithmic delivery systems and collaborations with social media influencers. Specifically, implementing TikTok/Instagram content adaptation with sharia-integrating modules can bridge literacy gaps while resonating with Gen Z's digital-native behaviors.

Abstract

Blockchain technology offers promising opportunities to reform and enhance zakat management by increasing transparency, accountability, and efficiency through immutable distributed ledgers and automated smart contracts that ensure compliance with Islamic principles such as nisab and haul. It facilitates direct, real-time tracking of zakat funds from muzakki to mustahiq, reducing the potential for fraud and administrative inefficiencies. However, despite these benefits, the adoption of blockchain in zakat systems faces significant multidimensional challenges. Technically, issues like scalability, energy consumption, and interoperability hinder seamless integration and widespread use. Regulatory frameworks specific to blockchain application in zakat are largely absent in many countries, creating legal uncertainty and complicating compliance with data protection laws such as GDPR and Indonesia’s UU PDP. Socially and culturally, the limited digital literacy and skepticism toward new technologies among stakeholders slow acceptance and trust in blockchain-based zakat systems. To fully realize blockchain’s potential in transforming zakat management, a comprehensive mitigation approach addressing technical infrastructure, clear and adaptive regulations, and targeted educational programs to improve digital competency and trust is essential. This multi-stakeholder effort, involving regulators, Islamic scholars, technologists, and zakat institutions, is critical to ensure that the benefits of blockchain align not only with operational efficiency but also with Shariah compliance and social acceptance.

Abstract

This phenomenological study explores the motivations of non-Muslim customers using Islamic banking services in Indonesia. Despite Islamic banks traditionally serving Muslim communities, the growing number of non-Muslim customers reflects a significant shift in market dynamics. Through in-depth interviews and qualitative analysis, this research uncovers key factors that drive non-Muslims to engage with Islamic banks. These motivations include perceptions of ethical and transparent financial practices, trust in product quality, competitive service offerings, and favorable banking costs. Additionally, the emphasis on risk-sharing principles and avoidance of interest resonates with broader ethical financial preferences, even beyond religious affiliations. Accessibility and location convenience also influence customer choices, alongside positive reputations supported by effective promotions. Importantly, psychological factors such as satisfaction and perceived benefits reinforce continued patronage among non-Muslims. Socio-cultural acceptance, especially in Muslim minority regions, facilitates openness toward Islamic banking. This study highlights that non-Muslim customers are motivated not solely by religious considerations but also by practical, economic, and ethical reasons. The findings suggest that Islamic banks in Indonesia can expand their market by addressing diverse customer needs while maintaining Shariah-compliant services. Understanding these motivations helps stakeholders design inclusive strategies that foster wider acceptance and trust. Overall, the study contributes valuable insights into the cross-cultural appeal of Islamic banking in Indonesia’s pluralistic society and underscores the importance of customer-centric approaches for sustainable growth.

Abstract

Sharia cooperatives in rural Indonesia present a promising alternative for inclusive finance, yet their specific impact on women’s empowerment remains critically under-researched. This study measures the economic effects of women’s participation in these cooperatives, focusing on income enhancement, asset ownership, and decision-making autonomy. Employing a mixed-methods approach, quantitative data from 200 women members across rural Java were analyzed alongside qualitative insights from focus group discussions (FGDs) and in-depth interviews. Results demonstrate that sustained participation (≥2 years) significantly increased average monthly income by 43% and productive asset ownership by 28%, primarily through access to profit-sharing financing (mudharabah) and cooperative-led entrepreneurship training. Critically, 82% of participants reported greater influence in household financial decisions, indicating enhanced agency. However, structural barriers persist: low financial literacy (only 35% understood basic sharia contracts) and deep-rooted patriarchal norms limited full economic engagement. Qualitative themes revealed that male relatives often controlled loan utilization despite women’s nominal ownership. These findings necessitate a gender-responsive empowerment model integrating three pillars: 1) Sharia-compliant financial literacy modules, 2) Cooperative governance reforms ensuring women’s leadership roles, and 3) Community dialogues challenging socio-cultural constraints. The study confirms sharia cooperatives’ potential as empowerment vehicles but underscores that inclusive impact requires deliberate institutional design addressing gendered barriers.

Abstract

The rise of ethical consumerism presents a compelling challenge for Sharia banks to move beyond conventional marketing approaches and embed Islamic values, specifically Akhlaq (moral character), into their core strategic frameworks. This study develops a Value-Based Islamic Marketing (VBIM) framework that integrates the objectives of Maqasid al-Sharia (Islamic legal goals) with contemporary marketing analytics to better align business practices with spiritual and ethical principles. Employing a mixed-methods approach, qualitative case studies of three leading Islamic banks provide in-depth insights into current organizational practices and challenges, while a quantitative survey involving 400 customers measures the impact of VBIM on customer-related outcomes. Empirical findings reveal that VBIM significantly enhances customer loyalty by 37% and brand trust by 52%, demonstrating the efficacy of value-driven marketing grounded in Islamic ethics. However, successful implementation demands organizational transformation through Tawhidic realignment—reorienting the institution’s mindset toward the oneness of God (Tawhid), which integrates spirituality with business objectives. The study proposes a dual-axis model balancing spiritual fulfillment and market competitiveness, illustrating that Islamic banks can achieve sustainable growth by harmonizing ethical commitments with performance metrics. This framework offers practical guidance for Islamic financial institutions seeking to differentiate themselves in increasingly value-conscious markets while strengthening their authenticity and stakeholder engagement. The research contributes to the evolving discourse on Islamic marketing by providing a novel, empirically supported model that bridges traditional Islamic jurisprudence and modern marketing science.

Abstract

Abstract: In order to realize Law Number 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System which emphasizes the importance of providing educational facilities and infrastructure, including information technology infrastructure, to meet the needs of students in developing their potential optimally. Including the importance of administrative management of educational institutions and without leaving technological developments, this study seeks to analyze the role of management information systems in increasing the effectiveness of Islamic education administration. The method in this research is descriptive analysis, where researchers will describe the topic of discussion, starting from the definition of management information systems to their role in increasing the effectiveness of Islamic education administration. Management Information System is a system that integrates the management of human resources and the utilization of information technology in order to achieve quality education. Management information system is a process of collecting, storing, managing, and retrieving data related to educational activities such as information about students, teachers, curriculum and school administration efficiently. Based on the research, it was found that the implementation in Madrasahs has shown a commitment to improving operational efficiency and the quality of education services as the operator system for various administrative areas. It means that the role of using SIM in managing and improving the effectiveness of Madrasah administration is very important. The implementation of SIM opens the opportunity to strengthen Islamic values and principles through technology.
