Abstract

The Palembang Darussalam Sultanate was one of the most important political and cultural powers in Sumatra from the seventeenth to the early nineteenth century. This study aims to analyze the social structure of the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate during the period 1600–1825 and the roles of each social stratum in sustaining the stability of sultanate rule. The research employs a historical method with a qualitative approach, encompassing the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data sources were obtained from historical manuscripts, colonial archives, and relevant scholarly literature. The results indicate that the social structure of the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate was divided into several main strata, namely the sultan and the royal family, nobles and customary officials, ulama (religious scholars), merchants, and common people. The sultan held the highest authority, both political and symbolic, while nobles and customary officials played roles in governmental administration. The ulama exerted significant influence in religious life and the legitimation of power, whereas merchants served as the main drivers of the sultanate’s economy through regional and international trade activities. Common people occupied the lowest stratum, functioning as farmers, fishermen, and laborers. This social structure reflects a synthesis of traditional Malay systems and strong Islamic influences in the social and political life of the sultanate.

Abstract

The transformation of Islamic education is an inevitable historical process inseparable from social, cultural, and scientific developments in the modern era. Islamic education, philosophically rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah, faces challenges from globalization, modernity, secularization, and technological advancement, requiring paradigm renewal without losing its core values. This article aims to analyze the transformation of Islamic education from the perspective of Islamic educational philosophy by examining classical and contemporary scholarly discourse and its relevance to modern educational contexts. This study employs a qualitative library research method, analyzing reputable national and international journal articles. The findings reveal that the transformation of Islamic education occurs through integrating tawhid-based values, moral education, and Islamic epistemology with modern pedagogical approaches such as critical learning, educational technology, and integrative curricula. Furthermore, the study highlights the contributions of modern Muslim thinkers in reconstructing educational goals, methods, and orientations to ensure relevance and contextuality. This research concludes that Islamic educational philosophy serves as a normative and conceptual foundation for developing an adaptive, holistic Islamic education system oriented toward forming insan kamil in the modern era.

Abstract

The development of the philosophy of science plays a crucial role in shaping the direction and character of contemporary science. Philosophy of science not only examines the ontological, epistemological, and axiological foundations of scientific knowledge, but also functions as a reflective framework for understanding paradigm shifts, research methodologies, and ethical dimensions in scientific practice. This article aims to analyze the influence of the development of philosophy of science on contemporary science, particularly in relation to changes in scientific paradigms, the strengthening of methodological pluralism, and the growing awareness of ethical responsibility. This study employs a qualitative approach using a library research method through the analysis of relevant philosophical and contemporary scientific literature. The findings indicate that developments in the philosophy of science have encouraged a shift from positivistic perspectives toward more critical, reflective, and contextual approaches. Furthermore, philosophy of science contributes to the recognition of science as a value-laden social practice rather than a value-free activity. Ethical awareness and social responsibility are therefore essential elements of contemporary scientific practice. In conclusion, philosophy of science serves as a conceptual foundation that ensures scientific development is oriented not only toward empirical truth, but also toward values, meaning, and benefits for human life.

Abstract

The concept of human nature is a fundamental theme in theology and philosophy as it forms the basis for understanding the purpose of life, morality, freedom, and human responsibility. Islam and Western thought employ different conceptual frameworks in interpreting human nature, particularly in ontological, epistemological, and axiological aspects. This article aims to analyze and compare Islamic and Western perspectives on human nature through theological and philosophical approaches. The study adopts a qualitative method based on library research using comparative analysis of Islamic theological sources and classical as well as contemporary Western philosophical works. The findings indicate that Islam views human beings as creatures of God who possess integrated physical and spiritual dimensions, with freedom inseparable from moral responsibility and transcendental purpose. In contrast, Western thought presents diverse perspectives that tend to emphasize human rationality and autonomy, highlighting individual freedom and the immanent construction of meaning. These differing perspectives have significant implications for understanding freedom, morality, and life orientation. This comparative study underscores the importance of a balanced analytical approach to achieve a more comprehensive understanding of human nature and to foster constructive dialogue between Islamic and Western thought in contemporary intellectual discourse.

Abstract

Historical myths constitute a crucial element of oral traditions that function in shaping identity, transmitting values, and maintaining collective memory within local communities. Although they are not intended as factual historical records, historical myths play a strategic role in shaping how societies interpret the past and legitimize social and cultural orders. This article aims to compare historical myths across different local communities by examining similarities and differences in narrative structures, social functions, and symbolic meanings embedded in oral traditions. The study employs a qualitative approach with a comparative design, using systematic literature review and content analysis of ethnographic sources, oral history studies, and cultural research. The findings indicate that historical myths share common functions as instruments of collective identity formation, cultural value transmission, and social legitimation. However, notable differences appear in narrative emphasis and symbolic representation, which are influenced by geographical conditions, social structures, and historical experiences of each community. These results demonstrate that historical myths are dynamic and context-dependent, functioning not only as representations of the past but also as active mechanisms in shaping historical understanding and cultural identity in contemporary local societies.

Abstract

Gender injustice within households is often reproduced through power relations, honor norms, and socially legitimized constructions of masculinity. The short film Memorial by Achmad Sulchan represents domestic conflict rooted in gender inequality and the normalization of symbolic violence. This study aims to analyze the influence of gender injustice–based conflict within households as represented in the film. A qualitative approach was employed using media text analysis and visual narrative analysis. Data were collected through systematic observation of scenes, dialogues, and narrative structures, and analyzed using theories of honor culture, power relations, and gender representation in media. The findings indicate that domestic conflict in the film is shaped by masculine dominance, honor-based legitimization of violence, and media’s role in reproducing unequal gender norms. These results demonstrate that Memorial not only reflects social reality but also serves as a critical commentary on patriarchal culture that sustains gender injustice. This study contributes to film studies, gender studies, and media analysis by highlighting the critical role of short films as instruments of social reflection.

Abstract

Credit distribution is the core function of rural banks in supporting regional economic activities. However, variations in the amount of credit taken by customers indicate the presence of complex determining factors. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the amount of credit uptake at PD BPR Bank Pasar Jombang Regency. A quantitative explanatory approach was employed. Data were collected from internal bank reports and structured questionnaires distributed to productive and consumptive credit customers. The analyzed variables include loan interest rates, customer income, employment status, loan maturity, third party funds, non-performing loans, and service quality. Multiple linear regression was applied for data analysis. The results indicate that interest rates, employment status, and loan maturity significantly affect the amount of credit taken. Customer income shows no significant effect. These findings are consistent with previous studies by Nurhayati (2023), Widarno (2015), and Pranoto et al. (2019). The study provides practical implications for rural bank management in designing credit policies aligned with customer characteristics and internal bank conditions.

Abstract

Political communication has undergone fundamental changes due to the rapid expansion of digital media in general elections. Social media platforms, data-driven targeting, and interactive content have reshaped how political actors engage with voters. This study aims to systematically examine political communication strategies in digital-era elections by synthesizing empirical findings from international and Indonesian contexts. The research employs a qualitative literature-based approach, using a systematic review of peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, and scholarly book chapters published between 2014 and 2024. Data were analyzed through thematic content analysis to identify dominant strategic patterns, communication models, and their implications for democratic engagement. The findings show that digital political communication strategies increasingly emphasize disintermediation, microtargeting, platform diversification, and personalization of political messages. However, these strategies also generate challenges related to misinformation, uneven participation, and regulatory gaps. The study concludes that digital political communication enhances voter engagement and campaign efficiency but requires stronger ethical standards and institutional oversight to sustain democratic quality. This research contributes theoretically by integrating classical political communication theory with contemporary digital practices and practically by offering insights for electoral stakeholders in developing effective and accountable communication strategies.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital technology has significantly transformed family communication patterns and posed new challenges to the moral development of children. Parents are required not only to supervise digital media usage but also to engage in effective interpersonal communication to instill moral values in the digital era. This study aims to examine the processes of parental interpersonal communication in cultivating moral values among children amid increasing digital exposure. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research was conducted through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis involving parents of school-aged children in urban Indonesia. The findings reveal that parental communication in moral education occurs through dialogic interaction, emotional closeness, value negotiation, and behavioral modeling. Openness, empathy, consistency, and positive reinforcement emerge as key components of effective moral communication. However, challenges such as time constraints, technoference, and excessive gadget use often hinder communication quality. The study further demonstrates that moral education in the digital era requires adaptive communication strategies that integrate traditional values with digital literacy and ethical awareness. This research contributes theoretically by reinforcing negotiated morality theory and practically by providing guidance for parents and educators in strengthening moral communication within families. The findings suggest that sustained interpersonal communication is essential for nurturing children’s moral character in an increasingly digitalized environment.

Abstract

The Abdul Qahar Mudzakkar movement in South Sulawesi between the 1950s and 1960s constituted one of the most prolonged armed rebellions in post-independence Indonesia, significantly affecting local socio-economic conditions. This study aims to analyze the social and economic impacts of the movement on South Sulawesi society, particularly in rural areas that became centers of conflict. Using a qualitative historical research design, this study employs document analysis of academic journals, dissertations, and historical records relevant to the DI/TII movement and regional socio-economic dynamics. The findings indicate that prolonged armed conflict led to severe disruption of agricultural production, damage to rural infrastructure, declining household incomes, increased poverty, and social stratification. The instability also weakened state services, reduced educational access, and intensified survival-based economic practices. Furthermore, socio-economic disparities reinforced local grievances that sustained the movement. This study contributes to the historiography of Indonesian regional conflicts by integrating socio-economic perspectives into the analysis of political rebellion. The findings underline the importance of socio-economic recovery and inclusive development in post-conflict regions.
