Abstract

Abstract : This article examines the context of moderation in the Qur’an through a comprehensive analysis of two key concepts in ‘Ulūm al-Qur’ān, namely the Makki-Madani classification and Nasakh-Mansukh. These two concepts serve as an epistemological framework that emphasizes that the revelation of the Qur’an took place gradually and was responsive to social changes in Arab society in the early Islamic period. Using a qualitative-descriptive research method based on literature study, this article examines the historical, thematic, and linguistic characteristics of Makki and Madaniyah verses, and examines the principles, conditions, and differences in the views of scholars regarding the concept of nasakh. The results of the study indicate that Makkiyyah verses serve to build theological, moral, and spiritual foundations, while Madaniyyah verses regulate the social and legal structures of established Muslim societies. Meanwhile, the Nasakh–Mansukh concept illustrates the flexibility of Islamic law through a progressive and contextual mechanism for legal refinement. Both concepts emphasize the principle of Islamic moderation, which balances universal values and the practical needs of society. The conclusion is that a moderate and contextual understanding of Makkiyyah–Madani and Nasakh–Mansukh is crucial in developing a methodology for interpreting the Qur'an that is relevant to contemporary religious and social challenges. These findings are expected to enrich postgraduate interpretation studies and contribute to strengthening the discourse on religious moderation in Indonesia.

Abstract

Moderate Islamic education is an educational approach that emphasizes the values of balance, tolerance, justice, and an open attitude towards differences in social life. This article discusses the concept of moderate Islamic education, the factors underlying its urgency in Indonesia, its implementation strategies in the world of education, and the challenges and opportunities in its implementation. Indonesia, as a country with a pluralistic society, requires an Islamic education model that can instill the values of unity, love of peace, and respect for diversity. Through a literature review, this article shows that moderate Islamic education plays a crucial role in preventing the development of intolerant and radical attitudes among students. The implementation of moderate Islamic education can be done through the integration of the values of moderation in the curriculum, teacher role models, the creation of an inclusive school culture, and the wise use of learning media. The results of this study confirm that moderate Islamic education is not only conceptually relevant but also strategic in shaping the character of students who are noble, tolerant, and responsible in national and state life.

Abstract

The This study aims to analyze the maqashid al-shari'ah (the principles of Islamic jurisprudence) in relation to the practice of women as supreme court judges in Muslim countries by comparing the judicial systems of Indonesia, Egypt, and Morocco. The methodology used in this study is library research, with data collection conducted by reviewing and examining several journals and articles related to the issues raised in the study. The collected data were then analyzed descriptively. The results of the study indicate that the learning process has a significant influence in improving (1) the maqashid al-shari'ah as the basis for women's permissibility to act as judges with an orientation towards justice and welfare (2) the practices of female judges in Indonesia, Egypt, and Morocco differ according to the legal and social context of each country (3) a comparative assessment from the perspective of maqashid al-shari'ah confirms that these differences in practice remain in line with the objectives of Islamic jurisprudence as long as they are based on competence, integrity, and a real contribution to improving the quality of justice. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the role of women as supreme court judges in Indonesia, Egypt, and Morocco aligns with the Maqasid al-Shari'ah (Islamic principles) because it emphasizes justice and public welfare based on competence and integrity.

Abstract

This paper discusses moral evil, starting from its definition, the standards of good and evil, to the Islamic perspective on moral evil. The study employs a philosophical–critical library research approach, with documentation data collected from journals, books, and websites. The results of this paper indicate that evil arises from human consciousness, caused by the inability to fully and properly utilize free will. Likewise, the standards of goodness remain ambiguous, as humans adopt differing and relative standards of good. In contrast, Islam classifies crimes systematically through ḥudūd, qiṣāṣ, diyāt, and ta‘zīr. Ultimately, evil always leads to consequences, and its prevention depends on strengthening faith (īmān), piety (taqwā), and human moral awareness.

Abstract

This article presents a normative-critical analysis of the Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) Fatwa No. 38 of 2023 concerning the permissibility of women serving as khatib in Friday prayer rituals. The fatwa was issued in response to public controversy sparked by religious statements allowing women to deliver Friday sermons before male congregations. Employing a qualitative normative approach, this study utilizes textual analysis, Islamic legal hermeneutics, and comparative fiqh methodologies. The primary data source is the official text of the MUI fatwa and its supporting documents, while secondary sources include the Qur’an, Hadith, classical and contemporary fiqh literature, and relevant scholarly works. The findings indicate that MUI prioritizes a bayānī (textual) approach, reinforced by qiyās, both verbal and practical ijmā‘, and istiṣlāḥī considerations aimed at preserving communal harmony. The study concludes that while the fatwa aligns with the dominant Sunni legal tradition, it also invites critical reflection regarding its methodological depth and its engagement with contemporary socio-religious dynamics and gender discourse.
