Abstract

Improving the efficiency and selectivity of nickel extraction is essential to meet increasing industrial demands and reduce processing costs. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of non-sulfide and sulfidation methods for nickel extraction from crude nickel ore. The extraction processes were conducted using Electric Furnace Units 5, 6, 7, and 8, which operate under the Rotary Kiln-Electric Furnace (RKEF) technology. The results show that Furnaces 5 and 6, which applied the non-sulfide method, produced low-grade ferronickel. In contrast, Furnaces 7 and 8, where sulfur was added (sulfidation process), successfully formed nickel sulfide (Ni₃S₂). This comparison indicates that sulfur addition in the extraction process can enhance the formation of more specific nickel compounds. However, further evaluation is required to assess the efficiency and environmental impact of both methods.

Abstract

‘Onto Deposit’ mining activities in Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, have significant impacts on the surrounding environment, especially in the form of land degradation, water pollution, and disturbances to biodiversity. This study aims to identify the main environmental impacts of these mining activities and formulate solutions based on the principles of sustainable development. The method used is a qualitative study through field observations, interviews with local residents, and a review of environmental policy literature. The results of the study indicate that in addition to groundwater and river pollution, forest damage and social conflict are also major issues. The solutions offered include the application of reclamation technology, the use of environmentally friendly mining systems, and community involvement in monitoring and supervision of the mine. This study recommends the establishment of a multi-stakeholder forum to bridge the interests of companies, governments, and communities in order to maintain a balance between resource exploration and environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Feature selection plays a vital role in enhancing the performance of machine learning models by eliminating irrelevant or redundant attributes. This study investigates the impact of feature selection on the classification accuracy of K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) in predicting heart disease. Using the UCI Heart Disease data, which initially includes 13 input features, feature importance scores were calculated using a Random Forest model. A threshold-based method was then applied to identify and retain the most informative features. Through iterative testing of importance thresholds, a value of 0.03 yielded the best results, reducing the feature set from 13 to 9 attributes. Classification models were trained and evaluated using full and reduced feature sets. Performance was assessed using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score and validated with 5-fold cross-validation. The results demonstrate significant performance gains after feature selection. The KNN classifier improved accuracy from 83% to 92%, with notable gains in recall and F1-score for the positive class. Similarly, SVM achieved 92% accuracy, with improved precision and overall performance stability. These findings suggest that data-driven feature reduction simplifies the model and enhances its predictive power. This study systematically compares feature selection effects on two distinct machine learning algorithms and offers practical insights for optimizing medical prediction models in clinical decision support systems.

Abstract

The Piyungan Industrial Area development is projected to absorb a significant workforce by 2035. This development will increase the demand for official housing, consequently impacting the land's carrying capacity and assimilative capacity in Piyungan District, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta. Consequently, an examination is required to ascertain the current state of the carrying and assimilation capacity. The methodology applied is a quantitative descriptive method combined with a geographical perspective on the planet based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Research findings indicate that the area suitable for development, based on land carrying capacity, is 1754.43 hectares. Furthermore, the land's assimilative capacity remains in surplus, with a remaining area of 1170 hectares after accounting for the demand for official housing.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the perceptions of pig farmers and non-farmers in Gancahan VIII Hamlet. The research method employed observation, interviews, and literature studies. The results showed that pig farming causes environmental problems, such as odors and dirty irrigation channels, which create a negative perception within the community. Additionally, pig farmers lack care for the waste they produce. The lack of support from relevant agencies regarding pig farm waste management also worsens the environmental impact. However, harmonious intercommunity relations led the community to downplay the perceived environmental impacts through community deliberations regarding complaints about the environmental impacts generated by pig farms.

Abstract

This study aims to design and implement an automatic solar tracking system using an Arduino Uno microcontroller, Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) sensors, and servo motors. The system enables solar panels to dynamically track the sun's position to optimize energy absorption. Four LDR sensors detect light intensity from various directions, providing real-time feedback to the microcontroller, which controls two servo motors to adjust the panel's angle. Experimental results indicate a potential 30–40% increase in power efficiency compared to static panels. The system is energy-efficient, cost-effective, and well-suited for tropical regions with consistent sunlight exposure.

Abstract

Red onions are widely used by the community and intensively cultivated by farmers despite their relatively short growing period. This plant is susceptible to excessive rainfall, which can cause rot. To address this issue, the greenhouse concept provides a solution for maintaining a stable growing environment. Internet of Things (IoT) technology offers an innovative approach through a Smart Greenhouse system capable of automatically monitoring and controlling environmental conditions. In this study, the device was successfully designed and implemented using several key components, including an ESP32, DHT11 sensor, soil moisture sensor, LDR sensor, relay, DC pump, and 9V battery. Testing over three days demonstrated that the device effectively responded to environmental changes. The water pump will activate automatically when soil moisture levels drop below 49%, while the cooling fan turns on when the ambient temperature exceeds 30°C. This system maintains the stability of the microclimate around the red onion growing medium while addressing the need for automation in temperature and humidity management. As such, the Smart Greenhouse system is expected to assist farmers in addressing climate change challenges, reduce reliance on human labor, and enhance the efficiency of red onion cultivation.

Abstract

The continuous population growth in Imogiri Sub-district has increased pressure on the availability of residential land, particularly as part of the area is prone to natural hazards that limit spatial utilization. This study applies a quantitative descriptive analysis to estimate the residential carrying capacity over a given period. The results indicate that the residential carrying capacity in the study area remains sufficient for the coming years. The findings provide practical benefits as a reference for both local authorities and communities in planning housing development that aligns with sustainability principles and land-use control. The contribution of this research lies in presenting a model of carrying capacity analysis that integrates population growth with environmental vulnerability, thereby offering novelty in supporting adaptive spatial planning in disaster-prone areas.

Abstract

Height Copy & Digital Print is a company engaged in the creative industry in the form of printing services located in Depok. Improving efficiency, effectiveness, and competitiveness is essential for the printing industry to produce quality products, reduce costs, and increase revenue. This can be achieved through productivity measurement. This study aims to measure productivity using the Objective Matrix (OMAX) method during the period from July 2023 to June 2024. The results show that the highest productivity occurred in May 2024 with a score of 804, while the lowest productivity was 184 in August 2023. The productivity index experienced the highest increase of 78.10% in August 2023 and the greatest decrease of -27.57% in December 2023 compared to the previous period. The productivity index against the standard productivity also recorded the highest increase of 167.84% in April 2024 and the lowest decrease of -38.60% in July 2023. The analysis results using the Traffic Light System indicate that the criterion of minimizing defective products has not contributed significantly to productivity improvement, as it recorded 11 red indicator data points.

Abstract

Binahong leaves are still widely used only as medicine, not yet able to reach a wider user profile. Research was conducted on the effect of drying methods and the addition of binahong leaf extract on the characteristics of biscuits. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of three drying method variations and the addition of binahong leaf extract on biscuit characteristics, as well as to identify the drying method and concentration of binahong leaf extract that provide the highest antioxidant activity. The research design used was a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors, namely drying method variations with three levels: direct sunlight, oven drying at 60°C, and indirect sunlight; and the addition of binahong leaf extract with three levels: 1%, 5%, and 10% of flour weight. The analyses carried out included physical properties (total color difference) and chemical properties (moisture content, ash content, fat content, protein content, carbohydrate by difference, and antioxidant activity). The results showed that both drying method and binahong leaf extract addition significantly affected the characteristics of biscuits. The best treatment was obtained in A2B3 (oven drying method with 10% binahong leaf extract addition), which produced the highest antioxidant activity of 60.33%. Further research is recommended on thickening or powdering the extract to reduce moisture content as low as possible so that the biscuits can meet the SNI biscuit standard 2973:2022, with a maximum moisture content of 5%.
