Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is still one of the main health problems in Indonesia, One of the main challenges in handling it is the low level of patient adherence in undergoing long-term drug therapy. Low adherence can lead to treatment failure, relapse, and drug resistance. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of pill cards (medication reminder cards) in improving TB patients' adherence to treatment. Methods: The methods used are a mixture of quantitative and qualitative. A total of 10 TB patients at the Minasa Upa Health Center became respondents. Quantitative data were obtained through MMAS-8 questionnaires before and after the intervention, while qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews. Methods: The results showed that the average compliance score increased from 7.0 to 7.8 or by 11.43%. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed a significance value of p = 0.038 which showed that the use of pill cards has the potential to increase patient adherence in taking medications. Interviews show that pill cards help patients remember medication schedules and understand medication better. Results: Summarize the main findings of the article. Conclusions: Pill cards are a simple but effective medium in improving drug adherence for TB patients, and have the potential to be developed as a more comprehensive educational tool.

Abstract

Background: Preoperative anxiety is a common problem experienced by patients and can affect physical and psychological preparedness before surgery. This condition needs to be addressed through effective and safe approaches, including non-pharmacological interventions such as aromatherapy. Objective: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of lavender aromatherapy candles in reducing anxiety in preoperative patients. Methods: The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-post test approach without control and involved 20 patients who met the inclusion criteria. Anxiety levels were measured before and after the intervention using a standard instrument suitable for assessing preoperative anxiety. Lavender aromatherapy candles were lit for the predetermined duration of the intervention to provide stable aroma exposure. Results: The results showed a significant decrease in the distribution of anxiety levels after the intervention. The moderate anxiety category decreased from 75% to 15%, and the severe anxiety category decreased from 10% to 0%. Conversely, the non-anxious category increased from 0% to 20%, and the mild anxiety category increased to 65%. Conclusions: These findings indicate that lavender aromatherapy candles provide a significant relaxation effect on preoperative anxiety. The study concluded that lavender aromatherapy candles were effective as a complementary intervention to reduce anxiety and could be applied in pre-surgical nursing services.

Abstract

Background: Diarrhea in toddlers remains a public health problem in Indonesia, causing significant morbidity and mortality. Nutritional factors, sanitation, and maternal knowledge are often cited as the main determinants, but comprehensive studies in specific urban contexts such as the Mangasa Community Health Center are still limited. Objective: This study aims to identify the determinants of diarrhea in infants in the Mangasa Community Health Center working area, focusing on nutrition (exclusive breastfeeding), sanitation (clean water quality), and maternal knowledge levels. Method: A cross-sectional study design was used on 30 mother-infant pairs selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured interviews using a valid questionnaire related to respondent characteristics, history of exclusive breastfeeding, clean water quality, and mothers' knowledge levels. Data analysis included descriptive and inferential statistics using the Chi-square test (p<0.05) with SPSS version 25. Results: Of the 30 toddlers, 9 (30%) had diarrhea. The majority of infants were aged >2–5 years (70%). A low history of exclusive breastfeeding was found in 17 infants (56.7%), use of unsuitable water in 11 respondents (36.7%), and insufficient maternal knowledge about diarrhea in 16 mothers (53.3%). Further analysis showed that these factors had a significant association with the incidence of diarrhea (p<0.05), indicating a pattern of mutually reinforcing risks. Conclusion: The incidence of diarrhea among toddlers at the Mangasa Community Health Center is greatly influenced by the interaction of nutrition (low exclusive breastfeeding), sanitation (poor quality of clean water), and lack of knowledge among mothers. Integrated educational interventions are needed to improve early detection and prevention of diarrhea.
