Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this action research was to increase the reading skill of the deaf children by modifying model of basic skill approach in the teaching-learning process. This study also aimed to explore the teaching-learning procedure of the reading skill of the deaf children for improving purposes. The population of this study was all students of the State Special School of the Deaf (SLB-B) in Yogyakarta. Tha cation research was conducted through the teaching-learning process of the reading skill in the classroom for 42 deaf children. The study was carried out in two cycles consisting of five learning sessions. The steps were reconnisance, planning, and combination of implementation and observation and finally reflection. The treatment was modifying the reading teaching –learning process, were conducted by the classroom teachers in collaboration with the researcher. Data were collected by administering the achievement test and analyzed by qualitative and quantitative methods. The results of this study show that (1) the action improved students reading skill, (2) modification model of basic skill approach is more effective in increasing reading skill of the deaf children than regular model,(3) this model is feasible for teaching the deaf children. Abstract

Abstract The research is aimed to construct judo skill test for students, considering there has  not been any judo skill test up to the present time. The sample students are the students of the dojo of UNY, taken purposively. The test is constructed in two skill groups, namely Kogo Uchikumi Nage Waza (throwing technique group) and  Kogo Uchikumi Katame Waza (gripping technique group). The first group is done by Kogo Uchikumi( variety of technique) namely: (1) one place position, (2) moving backward, (3) moving forward, (4) moving sideward, in 30’ for each variation of technique. Each of the techniques needs 45’, 900 and 1800 of pivoting the body alternatively without going through throwing the second group is done by techniques of gripping the body, arm and neck, alternatively in 30’ the lying position on the mat. Abstract

Abstract University students are specific group of youth who are expected to become the driving force of the future development of the nation. Therefore, they have to be will qualified persons with product oriented culture, in order to transform the culture to be positive. This study examined the students’ lifestyle; to find out whether it was more product or consumption oriented. Specifically this study examined the consumerism tendency of the UNY students, and to find out whether their family education and their live vision  had significant contribution to the students’ consumerism. The data indicated that : (1) the consumerism of the UNY  students were not high, (2) the mothers’ role was more dominant that the fathers’ in reducing the students consumerism, and (3) the students who had clear life vision  were at low consumerism. Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this study is to investigate the participation of the counterpart institutions I the implementation of the dual system education of the vocational high schools. The study was conducted at SMKN 7 Yogyakarta (The State Vocational High School 7 of Yogyakarta) . the subject were the school principle, the dual system education field coordinator, the counselor, the students, and the director as well as the instructors of the counterpart institution. The data were collected by the in-depth interview and the documentation sort. The data indicate that the counterpart institution has not been involved actively in the implementation of the dual system education. Abstract

Abstract This study was aimed at finding out the aptitude profile of the graduates of the Faculty of Engineering of the State University of Yogyakarta. The subjects were the students graduated from the faculty in academic years 1995 up to 2001. The total number of subjects was 1276. The students were classified based on their education background and their entrance selected system. There are two kinds of educational background, namely SMU (general High School) and SMK (Vocational High School) . there are also two kinds of entrance selection system, namely UMPTN (National Entrance Examination) and PBU (Talent Scouting System). The following results have been identified. (1) The mean of the GPA’s of the students of the SMK-PBU group (2.85) is higher than that of the students of the SMU-UMPTN group (2.77). (2) The length of study and the age of student have negative correlation with GPA. (3) All the best ten students of the SMK-PBU group. (4) Of the students in the “skripsi” stream there are more students of the SML group (33%) than the students of the SMU group (31%). Abstract

Abstract The objective of this study was to find out the development of the senior high school students’ independency and creativity. The subjects were 150 students of the senior high school at Jember Minicipality area, consisting of 50 students of the first year, 50 students of the second year and 50 students of the third year. The data were collected through a questionnaire and a verbal test, and then analyzed by using t-test. It was assumed that the scores on the questionnaire and the test depended on the students; grade only. Based on this assumption, it could be concluded that the students’ independence and creativity developed from the first grade to the second grade, and from the second grade to the third grade.
