Abstract

The reality in the field where people make religious pilgrimages causes the author's interest in researching the tradition of the grave pilgrimage of the scholar of Allah SWT. which exists among the community today. The issues raised from this research are how the community practices the grave pilgrimage of Sayyid Yusuf's grave? and how the santri traditionalise the grave pilgrimage of Sayyid Yusuf's grave? Considering that in Pesantren the santri are encouraged to frequent a pilgrimage to the grave of the founding figures of the pesantren. Therefore, the author wants to prove that the community tradition of pilgrimage to the grave of Allah Swt. scholar is part of the santri tradition. In this research, the author utilizes a qualitative research method with the a case study approach. This method is a type of research method that has more characteristics to examine social and cultural phenomen naturally. The results of this study are, first, people perform grave pilgrimages, especially to Sayyid Yusuf with the aim of connecting prayers to the saints of God. They assume that saints are God's chosen people and must be close to Him. In addition, the practice of pilgrimage can make pilgrims feel calm, peaceful, safe and serene. Second, the pilgrimage to the grave of Sayyid Yusuf's grave is not only done to visit the grave, but to read the Qur'an, expect blessings and tawasul. Third, grave pilgrimage can be categorised as a santri tradition that is also practised among the community.

Abstract

As an educational institution—mostly located in rural areas, Pesantren has initially carried out educational programs in the way know as sorogan and bandongan methods as the main methods. Recently, it developed into a classical model, formed into educational units that remained under the auspices of the Pesantren. The chosen education unit usually refers to the curriculum from the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kementrian Agama) which is then called madrasah. The rapid development of education in fact requires some Pesantren to open new educational institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemdikbud). It take these two ministries both similarities and differences to implement the curriculum. In addition, It is not merely a large Pesantren that implement education with a dual system model, but small pesantren either. Pesantren al-Falah and Sumber Gayam Kadur are such a small pesantren that implements education by that model. One of the educational institutions, included in the realm—dualism, are MTs and junior high schools, MA and SMA. This paper will go further to describe the management of educators and students in MA and SMA, including how is the relationship between MA and SMA? This research will come by the system theory and AGIL popularized by Talcots Parson assisted by comparative analysis to find its shortcomings and advantages. In the end, it was found that the implementation of dual education system under the auspices of one small pesantren has both positive and negative impacts. Various efforts are made to advance each educational institution, especially to attract limited human resources as the capital of the institution's sustainability. Therefore, efforts to attract students often lead to jealousy, controversy and opposition.

Abstract

The term nationalism has always carried out two angles—both pros and cons. The affirmative group holds a belief that the ideas albeit come from the West, the values can still be adapted to Islamic values. On the other hand, the opposite considers that all Western ideas can damage the Islamic values and even take over the existing Islamic values. This research is intended to describe three things: First, what is the basic concept of Islam and nationalism? Second, how does Kiai Abd. A'la think about Islam and nationalism? Third, how is Kiai Abd. A'la's socio-academic construction of Islam and nationalism? This paper uses Karl Manheim's sociology of knowledge theory along with Peter L Barger's social reality theory with a naturalistic and interpretative form of qualitative research then presented using historical and biographical methods based on data obtained through documentation, interviews, and observations. Analysis of the existing data resulted in several conclusions: First, the basic concept of Islam rahmatan lil alamin upholds horizontal compassion, both towards fellow humans and the environment. Meanwhile, the basic concept of nationalism is love for the motherland, willing to risk body and soul to defend the sovereignty and unity of the Indonesian republic regardless of race, ethnicity and religion. Second, in a way that is based on Kiai Abd. A'la, nationalism was historically born because of colonialism. The concept of nationalism adopted and fought for in the archipelago is in accordance with Islamic values, even the nationalism of the former era up to this present day cannot be separated from Islam. Third, the social construction of kiai Abd A'la based on religious understanding and the NU organisation. Kiai Abd. A'la's construction goes through three stages, namely externalisation, objectivation, and internalisation.

Abstract

This research is intended to find out the adaptation efforts of Pesantren Annuqayah and Tebuireng to digital culture, especially the process and form of adjustment to the advancement of digital technology which is currently an attribute of digital native santri. This research will answer three basic questions: First, what is the character of digital native santri in pesantren Annuqayah and Tebuireng, as connoisseurs of digital products? Second, how do they respond to the presence of digital native santri and the digital culture that enters the pesantren world? Third, what is the level of adaptation carried out by both pesantren as a barometer of their abilities? The analysis of this paper will utilize a theory developed by researcher called U-Cross Cultural Adjustment. This theory is a combination of three theories, technological determinism theory by Marshall McLuhan, integrative communication theory by Young Yun Kim, and acculturation theory by John W. Berry. This type of research is qualitative using a phenomenological approach to understand the events of the digital revolution in digital native santri and the decisions taken by pesantren Annuqayah and Tebuireng to respond to the situation in the form of descriptive analysis. In the end, it was concluded that there was an adaptation process of both pesantren to digital culture in several sectors, including the adaptation process in management, education management and social networking, although still it takes some different level of adjustment. This is due to the different culture shock between the two pesantren so that in the process some are slower and some are faster. In addition, human resources and the availability of pesantren facilities in the field of digitalisation also affect the level of adaptation.

Abstract

Various religious denomination and movements, which often prioritise extremism and radicalism, can cause disintegration in society, and can even damage the comprehension of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah. The efforts of pesantren to straighten out the creed are very necessary, because up to this moment, those who play an active role in the midst of society in disseminating Aswaja are pesantren and pesantren alumni. The focus of this research is to examine what forms of Aswaja religious traditions practised by Pondok Pesantren al-Falah Sumber Gayam, as well as how efforts are made in preserving Aswaja religious traditions in Kadur village, Kadur District, Pamekasan Regency. This study is a field research type. The data collection instruments used are interview, observation, and documentation. Those are then processed using descriptive qualitative methods. In this approach, researcher creates complex images, examines words and detailed reports from the views of respondents, and conducts studies in experienced situations. Based on the results of the analysis that has been carried out, it shows that the forms of religious traditions practiced by this pesantren include: istighatsah, giving good testimony for the corpse, yasinan, tahlilan, grave pilgrimage, rajaban, tawasul, selamatan, rabu wekasan, manaqiban, marhabanan. Meanwhile, the efforts of this pesantren in purpose of preserving the religious traditions of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah are first, distributing guidebooks for the implementation of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah religious traditions to community leaders and alumni. Second, Continuously maintaining this daily behavior to teach this tradition to the students or the surrounding community. Third, holding a question and answer session media in the learning classical book with alumni and the community in an effort to minimise the influence beyond the Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah doctrines that try to distort beliefs in maintaining the traditions of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah of the Kadur Village community.

Abstract

Pesantren holds a strong relationship with the teachings of Islam, where it nurtures the teachings of Islam driven by the founders, caregivers or people who lead them. It is the main media in spreading Islamic teachings to the community. It is thanks to pesantren that Islamic teachings can be grounded, understood and become a source of inspiration for the community in various aspects of life, both in the social, political, religious, and other fields. This paper will unravel and answer at least two main points: how does the efforts of the Pondok Pesantren Istifadah in Ging-Ging Sub-District Bluto Kab. Sumenep in the 2021/2022 academic year, strive to shape the personality of humble santri? And what are the implications for the formation of a humble santri personality? The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach, aimed at deciphering data, facts and various things obtained in the field, whether through observation, interviews, and documentation. From what is described above, it will come to the conclusion that the efforts of the Pondok Pesantren Istifadah shaping the personality of humble santri are pursued through moral education, recitation of the classical book, exemplary approach (uswah hasanah) and good advice model (mau'idhah hasanah). So from this, gradually the santri will have a humble personality, such as obedience to religious orders and teachers, respect and courtesy towards teachers and elders wherever and whenever they are. While the implications of efforts to form the personality of humble santri include: forming active and punctual santri, increasing the enthusiasm of santri in studying at madrasas, forming loyal and humble santri, and instilling mutual respect and appreciation in the midst of differences.

Abstract

There have been a number of revolutionary changes occurred within the pesantren following these last three years since the new leadership of Nurud Dhalam pesantren began to take over. These include the adoption of several innovative ideas related to pesantren management as well as the improvement of formal education facilities integrated in one entity of the pesantren foundation. This research is intended to find out the role of kiai in the decision-making process of pesantren development innovation? whatever the forms of innovation Kiai introduces in the development of pesantren? and whatever the impacts of pesantren development innovation on learning activities at Pesantren Nurud Dhalam Nyalabu Daya Pamekasan are? Thus, the main purpose is to observe how and what Kiai Ach. Fauzan strive to innovate this education. Therefore, in this study, researcher will adopt the theory of social change introduced by Auguste Comte. This theory is used to measure how changes made by kiai in innovating. This type of research is descriptive qualitative field research and the data collection method utilizes triangulation method. This research found the role of Kiai Ach. Fauzan in the decision-making Process always prioritises deliberation in Pesantrens Development Innovation, including in the terms of developing the education of Pondok Pesantren Nurud Dhalam. Forms of Kiai Ach. Fauzan's Innovation towards Pesantren Development includes the establishment of formal education such as Raudlatul Athfal (RA) and Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) educational institutions which previously only offered non-formal education. In addition, another form of innovation taken by pesantren is management improvement. And the results of improving the quality of education of Pondok Pesantren Nurud Dhalam are satisfaction with madrasah services and management, increasing student achievement in madrasah and the acceptance of output or graduates of Pondok Pesantren Nurud Dhalam in various best institutions in Pamekasan.

Abstract

It is classified into five different typologies to define Kiai by their function: Pesantren Kiai, Tarekat Kiai, Political Kiai, Stage Kiai and Kiai Langgar. The existence of this classification creates a specification of Kiai's role in society, such as Kiai Pesantren and Kiai langgar. In addition to educate santri in pesantren, Pesantren Kiai also imparts knowledge to the wider community within a hamlet. However, in transforming religious knowledge to the community they need mediation or support of Kiai Langgar. This research will explore the scope of research as follows: First, what is the relationship pattern between Pesantren Kiai and Kiai Langgar as the Care Taker of Pesantren Tradition? Second, what are the forms of Pesantren Traditions preserved in the Relationship between Pesantren Kiai and Kiai Langgar in Sasar Kapedi Bluto Hamlet? Thus, from these two questions, the main focus of this research is the relationship between Pesantren Kiai and Kiai langgar in preserving the pesantren tradition in Sasar Kapedi Bluto hamlet. The theory used in this research is Patron Client Theory developed by James Scoth. The approach used is a qualitative approach with direct field immersion tailored in accordance to the research needs. The data collection methods used are interviews, observation and documentation. The results of the study state, that the relationship pattern formed between Pesantren Kiai and Kiai Langgar in preserving pesantren traditions in Sasar Kapedi Bluto hamlet, develops in three patterns; teacher-student relationship, sharing da'wah tasks and spiritual bond. The forms of pesantren traditions preserved in the relationship between Pesantren Kiai and Kiai Langgar in Sasar Kapedi Bluto Hamlet include: the tradition of Kiai obedience, the tradition of learning the classical book and the tradition of friendship.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the views and actions of K. M. Faizi in preserving the environment and how his thoughts influence students in the pesantren environment. The main focus of this research is how the concepts and practices implemented by K. M. Faizi can serve as a model for environmental preservation based on pesantren values. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and literature studies related to K. M. Faizi's thoughts on environmental conservation. The findings indicate that K. M. Faizi has successfully instilled environmental awareness among his students, although it has not yet been fully adopted by the entire pesantren community. One of his efforts is to encourage students to reduce single-use plastic consumption by changing their mindset and setting an example. He personally avoids using disposable plastic containers to serve as a role model for his students. Additionally, K. M. Faizi critiques the common slogan "do not litter," arguing that it merely relocates waste without reducing its amount. Instead, he proposes a more insightful concept: "do not create waste carelessly." By preventing waste production in the first place, the environment can be better preserved. This idea has become one of the fundamental principles in his approach to environmental conservation within the pesantren.

Abstract

This paper aims to explore the key dimensions of the Kompolan Shalawat Nariyah practice and its implications for the development of social solidarity among the Moncek Barat community. The study employs a qualitative research method to uncover the deeper meaning of this religious gathering, focusing on the symbolic and experiential aspects embedded in the tradition. The analysis is grounded in Emile Durkheim’s theory of religious sociology and the religious dimension theory proposed by C. Y. Glock and R. Stark. The research reveals that Kompolan Shalawat Nariyah is not merely a ritual of prayer recitation, but a dynamic social practice encompassing five main dimensions: belief, ritual, religious experience, knowledge, and consequences. These dimensions significantly influence the psychological well-being of its members, fostering inner peace, spiritual focus, and increased devotion. Socially, the group cultivates a sense of collective religious consciousness, where shared sentiments lead to strong group cohesion. This solidarity extends beyond spiritual aspects, manifesting in mutual support and even economic cooperation, highlighting the group’s role in strengthening communal bonds and resilience.
