Abstract

Cigarette consumption occurs throughout the world and is widespread among teenagers. Moreover, the existence of cigarette advertisements as a promotional media that is easily found in various mass media, can provide smoking influences to adolescents. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of cigarette advertising on adolescent smoking initiation. This study uses a literature review. Google Scholar, Sciene Direct, and Proquest are used to select literature related to the topic to be discussed. The analysis in this study was also assisted with several articles found on the internet. Based on research, the influence of various types of cigarette advertisements in general in various countries can lead to smoking initiation among adolescents. The image in cigarette advertisements makes smokers look attractive. Teenagers who are exposed to cigarette advertisements are more open and have a high curiosity about the use of cigarettes. Some actions need to be taken to reduce cigarette consumption in adolescents, such as providing cigarette education to adolescents, as well as enforcement of strong anti-smoking advertising, promotion and sponsorship policies. So, the teenagers know and understand the harmful effects of using these cigarettes. Keywords: Cigarette advertisement, adolescent health, smoking.

Abstract

The majority of countries in the world have tuberculosis, including Indonesia, which has the third rank in the world. This is due to a large number of sufferers who were not successfully cured. One of the factors that influence the recovery of tuberculosis patients is adherence to taking anti-tuberculosis drugs for a certain period of time. Non-adherence to treatment can exacerbate the risk of disease because it can lead to MDR (Multi Drugs Resistant) tuberculosis. This study aims to analyze the determinants of tuberculosis treatment compliance in the city of Palembang. This study used an analytical study with a semi-quantitative approach, with a cross-sectional design. Sampling was carried out by proportional random sampling at 39 Puskesmas Kota Palembang, a total of 243 samples that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data collection was carried out by means of interviews using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test and multiple logistic regression. Obtained adherence to treatment of tuberculosis patients by 42.8%. There was a significant relationship between perceived benefits (p = 0.000; OR = 3.556), family support (p = 0.000; OR = 3.512), support from health workers (p = 0.001; OR = 2.712), knowledge (p = 0.018; OR = 2,027) with adherence to treatment of tuberculosis patients. The level of compliance with tuberculosis patients in Palembang City is still low, namely 42.8%. The most important determinant of adherence is perceived benefit with a 3.556 times greater opportunity after controlling for other variables.

Abstract

Diarrhea is still a public health problem in developing countries such as Indonesia because morbidity and mortality rates are still high in these areas. A morbidity survey conducted by the Diarrhea Department of the Ministry of Health in Indonesia between 2000 and 2010 shows rising incidences of diarrhea in children. In 2000, Incidence Rate (IR) diarrhea incidents occurred in 301/1000 members of the population, and this increased to 411/1000 in 2010. Cases of diarrhea have become dangerous when suffered by infants because the mortality rate will increase because weaker immunity than olders. Environmental factors such as water, waste, and toilet contribute greatly to cases of diarrhea; therefore, in this research, we analyze environmental characteristics’ effects on the incidence of diarrhea in infants in Palembang. This study uses a mixed-method design combining quantitative data collection using secondary data from the Department of Health with qualitative data collection using in-depth interviews of Palembang’s local government and health center personnel in the districts with the highest and lowest cases of diarrhea. Quantitative data analysis are visualized in the form of a map, while qualitative data are analyzed using content analysis. The results show that Ilir Timur I has the highest incidences of diarrhea while the Sako district has the lowest. Based on the results of the analysis, Ilir Timur I has more cases of diarrhea largely because of its non-working area health centers. Sako has the fewest cases of diarrhea because the clinics, doctors, and midwives in private practice in the region of Sako do not report the cases, as well as because of factors related to access remote health centers. Therefore, interventions based on health data for diarrhea need to be restyled for a drastic reduction of diarrhea cases.

Abstract

Palembang – Indralaya highway is a cross-provincial road where motor vehicle activity is constant, causing noise and affecting settlements along the road. Constant exposure to the noise that exceeds quality standards (55 dB) stipulated in Environmental Ministerial Decree (KEP.48/MENLH/11/1996), can cause a variety of health problems, such as hearing loss and psychological disorders. Therefore, this study is conducted to determine the noise level along the Palembang-Indralaya road. This study used an observational approach through direct observations and measurements using the Mini InScienPro SQ-100 sound level meter. The noise level is measured at two locations, i.e., on the curb and in houses located along the highway. Based on the observations and measurements, the highest noise intensity was during the daytime (78.0 - 102.4 dB). The highest intensity of noise inside and outside the house are 74 and 90 dB, respectively. This is due to the high volume and activity of vehicles crossing the highway. The intensity of the noise received by the residents along the highway is above the quality standards, so as to handle the noise, trees need to be planted around the housing (barrier plants). Abstract

Working at day (morning and afternoon shift) is normal working times according to human physiological conditions, but working at night would impact to the sleep cycle and regulation of human homeostasis. Various studies have found that working at night causing conditions that can interfere the ability to adapt both biologically and socially. Workers on the night shift also have a higher risk of injury or accidents due to work fatigue. This stydy aims to determine the fatigue score between night and non-noght shift workers at Dr Harjono S Hospital, Ponorogo. Data Collected in August 2019 and involved 80 medical workers as respondents who were randomly selected using simple random sampling technique. Data were obtained through direct observation and interviews to respondents. Fatigue was measured in numerical score with Fatigue Assesment Scale (FAS) Instrument. Work shift variables (WS) are divided into : non-night shift (morning, noon) and night shift (morning, noon, night). To find out the differences in physical conditions of workers in each shift, the Heart Rate (HR) of the night shift workers measured in the end of three shifts (morning : 07-14.00; Afternoon : 14.00-21.00; and night :21.00-07.00). Using independent T-test analysis, there was a significant difference in Fatigue Level of workers with night shifts and non-night shifts (p < 0.000). Workers with the night shift has 29.0 of Fatigue Levels or 21 % greather than workers with non-nigh shift (Fatigue Level : 24.2). Result shows that working at night increasing level of fatigue by 21 % than working at day. Workers on the night shift have the highest HR at the end of the shift (86.311 bpm) while workers at noon shift have the lowest HR (85.2). Keywords: Occupational fatigue, work shift, medical workers

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is one of the successful indicators in improving the health of babies. From 2013 until 2014, the practice of exclusive breastfeeding has decreased in Indonesia and has not reached the national targets of around 80% of babies being exclusively breastfed. This study aimed to identify the prevalence and determinants of exclusive breastfeeding in Seberang Ulu I, Palembang. A community-based cross sectional study was executed from July 5, 2016 to August 5, 2016 among mothers who had infants aged less than six months. A purposive sampling technique was used to select a sample of 125 participants. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire by the face-to-face interview technique. Bivariate and multiple logistic regression analysis were used to determine factors associated with the practice of breastfeeding exclusively and to control confounding effects. The prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding was 26.4% (95% CI: 20.0%-35.1%). After adjusting for confounders (mothers’ attitudes and health workers’ support), mothers who had good knowledge were 11.66 times more likely to breastfeed exclusively than those who had poor knowledge (AOR: 11.66, 95% CI: 3.07-44.31). The prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding in Seberang Ulu I, Palembang, was still very low and has not reached the national target. The recommendation is to maximize the role of health workers in providing information about exclusive breastfeeding, so that they can continue providing motivation for mothers, husbands and families, so that the success and sustainability of exclusive breastfeeding practices could be achieved.
