Abstract

This article discusses morals towards both parents, with a special focus on being devoted to both parents as commanded in Islam, being polite to both parents, both in words and actions according to the traditions of society, so that both parents feel happy with their children, fulfilling both of their needs as appropriate according to the child's ability. This does not include anything that can eliminate personal freedom, household affairs or types of work related to the child's personality, religion or country. This is because being good to both parents does not require neglecting personal rights. The Qur'an teaches morals towards both parents. Being devoted to parents who have died includes turning them towards the Qibla, guiding them to say tawheed, reciting the Yasin letter, being humble towards both of them, even though they are non-Muslims they still have to be filial as long as what they do does not associate partners with Allah SWT. This remains relevant and applicable in modern life as a solution to various social problems related to morals towards parents.

Abstract

The phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (Fomo) Syndrome on social media is currently a relevant issue. Fomo can affect everyone, from teenagers to adults, who actively use social media. Fomo, as a social anxiety characterized by the fear of missing out on experiences that others have, has become a significant issue in the digital era. This study aims to explain the concept of qanaah described by Quraish Shihab in Tafsir Al-Mishbāh as a therapeutic medium for the phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (Fomo) Syndrome. This study uses a qualitative-based research type (Library Research) with a descriptive analysis approach. The data collection method used by the researcher uses a documentation study, which takes references from several literatures such as books, journals, tafsir books, articles and other relevant literature. The collected data is processed and analyzed using a descriptive analysis method, namely by explaining Quraish Shihab's interpretation systematically. The results of this study indicate that 1). According to Quraish Shihab, qanaah, which is interpreted as a sense of sufficiency and satisfaction with what is owned, offers an alternative perspective in dealing with social pressures and consumerism that trigger Fomo. This concept emphasizes the importance of self-acceptance, gratitude. As stated in Qs. Al-Baqarah (2) verses 207, 152, Qs. Ibrahim (14) verses 7, 43, Qs. At-Taubah (9) verse 59, Qs. Yusuf verse 20 and Qs. Al-Hajj verse 36. By internalizing qanaah, a person can reduce anxiety related to the loss of experience and build a healthier psychological balance. 2). This qanaah concept can be an effective therapy media to overcome Fomo Syndrome. by instilling an attitude of consent, gratitude and asceticism.

Abstract

Using Nurcholish Madjid’s functional-sociological approach, this study aims to explore and formulate the values of social ethics contained in Surah al-Ḥujurāt through a thematic exegesis framework (tafsīr mawḍūʿī). This surah encompasses fundamental teachings on community ethics, such as respect toward authority, the principle of caution in receiving information (tabayyūn), the obligation to reconcile conflicts (iṣlāḥ), and prohibitions against mockery, prejudice, and backbiting. Employing a qualitative method with a library research approach, the study analyzes classical and contemporary tafsīr sources using descriptive-analytical techniques. The findings reveal that the social values in Surah al-Ḥujurāt are universal, contextual, and applicable. The verses construct a comprehensive system of Islamic social ethics, ranging from epistemic foundations (verses 1–2), digital information ethics (verse 6), conflict management (verses 9–10), interpersonal communication ethics (verses 11–12), to principles of inclusivity and equality (verse 13). This surah serves as both a normative and practical reference for character development and the cultivation of a dignified, ethical, and harmonious society

Abstract

This article compares the concept of nāsikh–mansūkh in two classical works of Qur’anic sciences: Al-Itqān by al-Suyūṭī and Al-Burhān by az-Zarkashī. Using a textual comparative method, it examines their definitions, criteria, and classification of surahs containing abrogating or abrogated verses. Although both scholars agree that abrogation applies only to legal verses, their mappings differ due to methodological variations. Al-Suyūṭī identifies 43 surahs as free from abrogation, while az-Zarkashī lists only 34, applying a stricter interpretation of verses that remain recited but are no longer practiced. These differences reflect diverse scholarly perspectives rather than contradiction. The study recommends integrating both approaches to develop a more comprehensive understanding of nāsikh–mansūkh.

Abstract

Differences in interpretation are often found among mufassirs regarding a verse or sūrah of the Quran. For instance, the interpretation of sūrah Luqmān verse 34 highlights a striking difference between classical mufassirs like Ibn Jarīr al-Ṭabarī and contemporary ones like M. Quraish Shihab in interpreting the verse about the five “keys to the unseen” or Mafātiḥ al-Ghaib. This research aims to understand al-Ṭabarī and Quraish’s ideas and comprehend the differences in their interpretations of sūrah Luqmān verse 34 based on the books Tafsīr al-Ṭabarī and Tafsīr al-Mishbāh. This research uses a qualitative approach with comparative analysis. Data collection uses documentation techniques from both books. The findings show that al-Ṭabarī views the five unseen elements as absolute, while Quraish sees some as absolute and others as relative. Their differences are particularly notable in interpreting the descent of rain and what is in the womb, with al-Ṭabarī considering them absolute secrets and Quraish viewing them as relative. However, both interpret the timing of the apocalypse, what someone will do tomorrow, and where someone will die as absolute secrets. These differences may stem from methodological shifts and varying social contexts during interpretation, as well as different sources of opinion.

Abstract

This paper reviews the relationship between self-awareness and the formation of social piety, with reference to reflection on QS. Ar-Ra'd verse 11 and QS. In the reality of today's Muslim society that is experiencing moral and spiritual challenges, self-awareness can be used as foundation in building individual character who are socially and spiritually responsible. Through qualitative research methods and a muqaran (comparative) tafsir approach, this study explores that individual transformation is a prerequisite for better social change. QS. Ar-Ra'd verse 11 highlights the urgency of internal change as the key to creating collective change, while QS. Al-Anfal verse 53 emphasizes the importance of preserving Allah's blessings with constant self-awareness. Reflection on these two verses confirms that strengthening spiritual values through character education is essential, not only for the general public, but also for religious leaders, academics and those with social influence. This study recommends that the value of self-awareness be thoroughly integrated in the Islamic religious education curriculum, in order to form a society with pious, just and dignified characters. Keywords: Self-awareness, social piety, QS. Ar-Ra'd: 11, QS. Al-Anfal: 53, individual transformation, Islamic character education

Abstract

The language of the Qur’an possesses a distinctive aesthetic through the lexical filtration of each fragment, wherein specific meanings and purposes are embedded and must be explored comprehensively. This study positions itself within that tradition by examining one of the frequently recurring terms in the Qur’an, khasyyah. This word is often interpreted as "fear," yet it carries various characteristics and nuanced connotations. The present article seeks to provide an essential exposition on the semantic depth of khasyyah in the Qur’an, including its categorization when directed toward Allah, thereby offering a broader discourse on the conceptual richness of the term. Methodologically, this study adopts a qualitative paradigm by applying the principles of library research. The secondary sources are drawn primarily from the anatomy of the Qur’an, focusing solely on the analysis of khasyyah and its derivations. This data is further supported by relevant references such as classical Arabic dictionaries, Qur’anic exegesis, scholarly books, and academic articles. For the analytical framework, the study employs the encyclopedic semantic method, which aims to trace the semantic trajectory of khasyyah within the Qur’anic discourse. The findings reveal that this term appears in multiple derivative forms throughout the Qur’an, producing a range of meanings. These include the classification of khasyyah as both a stimulative and resultant emotional response toward Allah, as well as other correlational meanings such as hardship (masyaqqah), compulsion, anxiety, calamity, despair, and war.

Abstract

This study examines al-Dur al-Mansur fi al-Tafsir bi al-Ma’tsur by Imam al-Suyuti, a major work in the tradition of tafsir bi al-ma’tsur—Qur’anic exegesis based on transmitted reports from the Prophet, his Companions, and the tabi‘in. Using qualitative library research and content analysis, the study explores al-Suyuti’s method, sources, and the distinctive features of his tafsir within the wider history of Qur’anic interpretation. The findings show that al-Suyuti compiled narrations extensively without adding personal interpretation, relying mainly on hadith, athar, and early scholarly views. While he did not systematically verify the isnad, he often indicated the reliability of certain reports, reflecting his expertise in hadith. His approach was also shaped by the intellectual saqafah of his time, especially the Ash‘ari theological framework and the jurisprudential traditions of the Shafi‘i and Hanafi schools. Al-Dur al-Mansur stands out as an encyclopedic repository preserving earlier tafsir works, including some now lost, distinguishing it from al-Tabari’s Jami‘ al-Bayan, which adopt more selective and analytical approaches. The study suggests further research on the authenticity of its narrations and intertextual comparisons with other tafsir bi al-ma’tsur.
