Abstract

Mathematical representation skill is students' ability to express mathematical ideas (such as problems, statements, and definitions) in various ways to solve problems through multiple representations, such as images, words, tables, and symbols mathematics. Students are struggling in representing mathematical ideas. It hampers them in determining the solution of mathematical problems. They are careless in reading the word problems, lacking problem analysis, less thorough, and struggling to connect concepts. The subjects of this study were in two students from one of the junior high school in Jambi. The instruments used for this research were VVQ, Mathematical Representation Ability Test and interviews. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that the representation abilities of students with visualizer and verbalizer style were quite good. However, each subject had a different way of solving problems. Visualizers were more interested in questions with image information in solving the problem. Verbalizer tended to prefer information with detailed wording.

Abstract

Many students have not mastered the concept of group theory well. Hence, the researcher intended to describe the conceptual understanding of group theory based on the students mathematical abilities. The implementation of this research begun with the students studied about Group Theory classically. Next, to examine the mathematical abilities of students, the researcher administered the questionnaire to obtain the data about the GPA (Grade Point Average) of students. Then, the researcher chose the participants of this study based on the high, middle, and low GPA. The selected research subjects were then given test questions that had been validated by the experts. Data was analyzed using the indicators of conceptual understanding, namely: (1) explaining or restate the group concept, (2) providing an example and a nonexample, (3) using group concept to solve the problem. The results showed that the students with high mathematical abilities reached three indicators of conceptual understanding perfectly. Students with medium mathematical abilities reached two indicators of conceptual understanding but it was not perfect, she did not write the answer completely. In addition, students with low mathematical abilities could not do the test at all, he could not write the group correctly. He did not reach any indicators of conceptual understanding, thus, it can be concluded that the students with low mathematical abilities did not understand the concept well.

Abstract

Mathematics is structured that any material science related. To understand the interrelated mathematical material this needs the capability mathematics. Connection ability mathematical connection is very important and is one of the capabilities that must be owned by a person and the unavoidable presence when someone studying mathematics. This study aims to determine: Is the increase in mathematical connection ability of students who obtain advance learning through learning model organizer better than students who received conventional learning, interaction learning model initial advance organizer with the ability of students to increase the ability of students' mathematical connections, and describes the ability to make map concept of junior high school students who acquire learning through advanced learning model organizer. This research uses an experimental quantitative methods approach. The population in this study were all seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Lhokseumawe consisting of ten classes. As a sample of randomly selected classes will be the subject of study chosen as an experimental class VII1 class and class VII5 control. Instrumen elected as class research in this study is testing the ability to connect mathematical description shaped totaled about 5 grains soal. Koefisien the reliability test of 0.672 koefisien reliabilitas tests showed high levels. The results showed that: (1) Increased ability of students being taught mathematical connection with the advance organizer learning model is better than the students who obtain conventional overall learning and based on the level of the student. (2) There is no interaction learning model initial advance organizer with the ability of students to increase the ability of students' mathematical connections. (3) The ability of the students create concept maps in learning mathematics through advanced learning model organizer adalah well. Abstract

This study aims to look at the differences increase understanding and mathematical reasoning abilities among students who were taught by the guided discovery method with students taught by conventional methods. Formulation of the problem in this research are: 1) does increased understanding and mathematical reasoning abilities that students acquire learning by using guided discovery method is better than students who received conventional learning is reviewed based on: a) the whole student, b) the level of students' mathematical ability (high, medium, and low)?; 2) Is there an interaction between factors of learning methods and levels of understanding of students' mathematical ability to increase understanding of mathematical or mathematical reasoning?; 3) Is there a positive correlation between increased capacity and improved mathematical understanding of mathematical reasoning ability in learning by using guided discovery method? This type of research is a quantitative study using a pretest- posttest with control group design. The experiment was conducted in YPPU, Junior High School Sigli, Aceh with the number of students of 60 people consisting of two classes of experimental classes to acquire learning and control methods of guided discovery learning classes to obtain by conventional methods. Collecting data using a test for the ability of mathematical understanding and mathematical reasoning abilities. Processing the data using the t test and two-ways ANOVA with SPSS 17.0 with significance level = 0.05. Based on the analysis of data it can be concluded that increasing the understanding and mathematical reasoning abilities of students who obtained with the method of guided discovery learning is better than learning by students who received conventional methods are reviewed based on the whole student and based on the level of the student. There is no interaction between the factors and the level of students' learning methods to increase understanding or mathematical reasoning ability. Testing correlation indicates that there is a strong positive correlation of 0.708 between increased understanding and mathematical reasoning abilities in students being taught by using guided discovery method

Abstract

Mathematical communication is the process of delivering ideas/thoughts mathematics both written and orally. Due to convey the idea of pure mathematics can not be delivered orally without writing, the oral mathematical communication in this research is the class presentation of mathematical communication is conveyed through speech or writing related to the speech. The purpose of this study was to determine the accuracy of mathematical communication profile student teachers in solving mathematical problems in terms of gender differences and differences in mathematical ability. Based on the analysis of data it can be concluded in oral mathematical communication, male students convey information more accurately than female students.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji: (1) perbedaan penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Jigsaw denganbentuk STAD untuk meningkatkan kemampuan penalaran matematika siswa, (2) perbedaan penerapan pembelajaran kooperatif Model tipe Jigsaw dan STAD tentang peningkatan keterampilan komunikasi matematika siswa, (3) Untuk mengetahui interaksi penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Jigsaw dan STAD untuk penalaran dalam hal pengembangan kapasitas dan peningkatan komunikasi matematika siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan semi-eksperimental. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas XI siswa SMA di Binjai. Secara acak, satu sekolah dipilih sebagai subyek penelitian, yaitu SMAN 7 Binjai Tahun 2012. Instrumen yang digunakan meliputi: tes kemampuan penalaran matematika dan matematika komunikasi uji kemampuan. Analisis data dilakukan dengan analisis varians (ANOVA). Hasil utama dari penelitian ini adalah keseluruhan siswa belajar dengan tipe pembelajaran kooperatif Jigsaw secara signifikan lebih baik dalam meningkatkan kemampuan penalaran matematika dan komunikasi matematika daripada siswa yang belajar dengan tipe kooperatif STAD.

Abstract

The use of cooperative learning model type of Think-Pair-Share is needed in order to helps students of learning to communicate mathematically as stated ideas, ask questions and respond question, and to developed students' mathematical disposition. This study aims to find out about increasing the ability of communication and mathematical disposition among students taught through cooperative learning model Think-Pair-Share with the students taught conventionally. This study uses a quantitative approach to the experimental method. The population in this study were all students of class XI SMA Negeri 1 Bireuen and take samples of the two classes (class experimental and control) with the selection of the sample through purposive sampling technique. Collecting data in this study using two different tests and instrument the nontes. Instrument tests the ability of mathematical communication and mathematical disposition nontes include scale and observation sheets. To look at the differences increased communication ability and mathematical disposition on the experimental and control classes using the Mann Whitney test with a significance level of 0.05, and to see the interaction between learning models and the grouping of students to increase communication ability and dispositions mathematically using ANOVA two lanes. Statistical test results were analyzed using SPSS 17.0. Based on the results: (1) Increase the ability of mathematical communication between students taught through cooperative learning model TPS better than students taught conventionally based on: 1) The whole student, and 2) grouping of students. (2) There is a model of the interaction between learning and grouping of students to increase mathematical communication ability. (3) Improved mathematical dispositions among students taught through cooperative learning model TPS better than students taught conventionally based on: 1) The whole student, and 2) grouping of students. (4) There is a model of the interaction between learning and grouping of students to increase mathematical disposition. (5) The response of students towards learning math using cooperative learning model TPS is positive.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of critical thinking skills and students mathematical dispositions, as well as the interaction between learning factors and grouping of students to the critical thinking skills and the improvement of student mathematical dispositions. This study is an experimental study with a quantitative approach that describes an increase in critical thinking skills and dispositions of students overall mathematical and grouping students. The population inthis study were students of SMP Negeri 3 Peusangan, where in the sample is a class VIII student as much as 2 classes with 47 students enrolled. The sampling technique is done by simple random sampling design with pretest-posttest control group. Based on the results of the study concluded that the improvement of students critical thinking skills mathematical significantly higher in grade PBM than conventional class as a whole with a value of t = 4.373. However, the grouping of students simply an increase in the high group and medle group only, namely the value of t = 4.064 and t = 2,554. The study also concluded that there was an interaction between learning factors and grouping of students to the mathematical ability of students to think critically. In addition, the results of a study of students mathematical dispositions that get higher problem-based learning than students who received conventional teaching overall with a value of t= 4.214. While the grouping of students is only an increase in the high group with a value of t = 2.428 and the low group with a value of t = 3.439. But in the process of interaction, there is no interaction between factors of learning and grouping of student to an increase students mathematical dispositions.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matemastis antara siswa yang belajar menggunakan pendekatan CTL dengan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional, untuk menelaah perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah antara siswa dengan kemampuan matematika tinggi, sedang dan rendah pada siswa yang belajar dengan pendekatan CTL, untuk melihat apakah terdapat pengaruh atau interaksi antara faktor pendekatan pembelajaran yang diberikan dengan faktor kategori kemampuan siswa menyangkut peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman dan pemecahan masalah siswa, untuk Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan eksperimen dengan pendekatan kuantitatif menggunakan dua kelas, yakni kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol dengan pre-test post-test group design. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII MTsN Rukoh Banda Aceh, sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah dua kelas yaitu VIII-1 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan VIII- 4 sebagai kelas kontrol dengan pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Analisis data dilakukan secara kuantitatif dilakukan terhadap rataan gain ternormalisasi antara kedua kelompok sampel dengan menggunakan Uji-t. Pengolahan data menggunakan Software SPSS 14,0 for Window dan Microsoft Office Excel 2007. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran matematika dengan pendekatan kontekstual dapat meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman dan pemecahan masalah siswa ditinjau secara keseluruhan dan kategori kemampuan matematika siswa. Pembelajaran matematika dengan pendekatan kontekstual secara signifikan lebih baik dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman dan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa dibandingkan dengan pembelajaran konvensional.

Abstract

The ability of communication is one of the mathematical ability to be mastered by students in learning mathematics. Students who have good mathematical communication skills will be able to create a diverse representation in solving problem. This will facilitate the students in making a variety of alternative settlement so as to enhance the students' ability in solving mathematical problems. One of approach to learning that is likely to improve mathematical communication skills and self-efficacy students is discursive approach. This research is experimental research with quantitative approach. The aim is to obtain an increase in mathematical communication skills and self-efficacy of students by using a discursive approach is reviewed by the entire student and student grouping. This study used a pretest - posttest the control group. The data of mathematical communication ability collecting using test and the data of student self-efficacy collecting by questionnaire. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that the improvement of students' mathematical communication skills are taught using a discursive approach is better than the improvement of students' mathematical communication skills are taught using the conventional approach based on the students' overall well-reviewed and reviewed based on level students. For self-efficacy concluded that there are differences increase in self-efficacy between students taught with the discursive approach better than students who were taught using the conventional approach. Based on the analysis concluded that there is an interaction between the factors of teaching approach and leveling students with.The improvement of students' mathematical communication skills while learning approach to factors and level of students to self-efficacy of students there is no interaction.
