Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming nursing services by enhancing decision-making, improving efficiency, and delivering personalized patient care. This article examines the applications, impacts, challenges, and future directions of AI in nursing. Key applications include predictive analytics for patient deterioration, automation of repetitive tasks, and clinical decision support, which collectively reduce workloads and improve care quality. AI also enhances nursing education through personalized learning systems and realistic simulations. Despite its benefits, challenges such as data privacy concerns, algorithmic biases, resistance to technology adoption, and insufficient regulatory frameworks hinder its full implementation. Addressing these challenges requires robust cybersecurity measures, inclusive AI development, comprehensive training programs, and clear guidelines to ensure ethical and effective integration into nursing practices. Looking to the future, advancements such as robotics, natural language processing, and AI-powered chatbots promise to further revolutionize nursing. Collaborative efforts between AI developers and nursing professionals are essential to tailor AI technologies for specific nursing tasks, ensuring relevance and usability. Additionally, incorporating AI training into nursing education will prepare future nurses to adapt to AI-driven healthcare environments. This article highlights the transformative potential of AI in nursing while emphasizing the need for a balanced approach to integration. By addressing barriers and leveraging innovative technologies, AI can enhance nursing services, delivering safer, more efficient, and patient-centered care. The findings underscore AI's role as a complementary tool that supports, rather than replaces, the human aspects of nursing care.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension in the elderly is a major public health problem due to its strong association with serious complications, including cardiovascular disease and stroke. The development of hypertension in older adults is influenced by multiple factors, encompassing lifestyle behaviors, psychosocial conditions, and environmental influences. Objective: This study aimed to identify factors influencing the occurrence of hypertension among elderly individuals through a literature review. Methods: A literature review was conducted using articles retrieved from reputable databases, including PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. Relevant studies were identified using predefined keywords related to hypertension and elderly populations. The article selection process followed the PRISMA approach, and the methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) instrument. Results: The review findings indicated that unhealthy dietary patterns, physical inactivity, obesity, limited family support, inadequate knowledge about hypertension, and unfavorable environmental factors were the main contributors to hypertension in the elderly. These factors were consistently reported across the included studies as having a significant influence on blood pressure control in older adults. Conclusion: Hypertension in the elderly is influenced by a complex interaction of lifestyle, psychosocial, and environmental factors. Comprehensive and integrated interventions focusing on lifestyle modification, health education, strengthening family and social support, and improving elderly-friendly healthcare environments are essential to enhance hypertension prevention and management among older adults.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a common chronic health problem among the elderly and its prevalence increases with advancing age. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as structured physical activity in the form of hypertension exercise, are recommended to support blood pressure control and improve overall well-being in older adults. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of hypertension exercise on blood pressure among elderly individuals and to identify factors influencing the effectiveness of the intervention. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test control group design was conducted involving 60 elderly participants diagnosed with hypertension. Participants were divided into an intervention group and a control group. The intervention group participated in a structured hypertension exercise program for eight weeks, while the control group received no intervention. Blood pressure measurements were taken before and after the intervention period. Data were analyzed using comparative statistical tests to assess changes in systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Results: The results showed a significant reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the intervention group compared to the control group. In addition, participants in the intervention group reported improvements in mental well-being. Social support and personal motivation were identified as important factors contributing to the effectiveness of the hypertension exercise program. Conclusion: Hypertension exercise is an effective non-pharmacological intervention for reducing blood pressure and improving quality of life among the elderly. Integrating structured exercise programs with adequate social support and medical supervision may enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of hypertension management in older adults.

Abstract

Background: Therapeutic communication is a fundamental component of healthcare services, as it facilitates effective interactions between healthcare providers and patients and contributes to patient-centered care. Effective therapeutic communication is particularly important in community health centers, where patient satisfaction reflects the quality of primary healthcare services. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between therapeutic communication skills and patient satisfaction at community health centers (Puskesmas). Methods: A quantitative study with a correlational design was conducted involving 200 patients receiving services at Puskesmas. Data were collected using structured questionnaires that assessed therapeutic communication skills and patient satisfaction. Statistical analysis was performed using correlation tests to determine the strength and direction of the relationship between therapeutic communication skills and patient satisfaction. Results: The findings demonstrated a significant positive relationship between therapeutic communication skills and patient satisfaction. Among the dimensions of therapeutic communication, empathy and active listening were identified as the strongest contributors to patient satisfaction. Conclusion: Therapeutic communication skills are significantly associated with patient satisfaction in community health centers. Enhancing empathy, active listening, and clarity of information delivery through structured training programs for healthcare providers is recommended to improve patient satisfaction and overall quality of primary healthcare services.

Abstract

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease with an increasing prevalence among the elderly and requires long-term management to prevent complications. Effective diabetes management depends not only on medical treatment but also on consistent self-care behaviors and medication adherence, in which family support plays an essential role. Objective: This study aimed to examine the role of family support in the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus among elderly patients through a literature review. Methods: A literature review was conducted by analyzing relevant articles published in international peer-reviewed journals focusing on family support and diabetes management in elderly populations. Articles were selected based on predefined inclusion criteria related to study population, family support dimensions, and diabetes management outcomes. The selected literature was systematically reviewed and synthesized to identify patterns and key findings regarding the role of family support. Results: The findings demonstrated that family support, including emotional, informational, and instrumental support, was associated with improved glycemic control, better medication adherence, enhanced self-care behaviors, and improved quality of life among elderly patients with T2DM. However, several barriers were identified, such as limited family knowledge about diabetes management and restricted access to healthcare services, which may reduce the effectiveness of family support. Conclusion: Family support plays a critical role in the effective management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in the elderly. Strengthening family-centered health education and integrating family involvement into long-term diabetes care models are recommended to optimize clinical outcomes and improve the overall quality of life of elderly patients with T2DM.
