Abstract

Routine monitoring of vital signs is an important aspect in disease prevention and early detection efforts. Conventional methods are often time-consuming and inefficient, especially in community health services. This community service activity was conducted by the Physics Department Team of Universitas Islam Negeri Walisongo Semarang in collaboration with PPTQ Daarul Quran As-Syafaah to test the implementation of the AL-YUSVID (Al-Yusru Integrated Vital Signs Detection) prototype in monitoring vital signs in the Kedung Ringin community, East Lampung. The AL-YUSVID prototype, developed based on the principle of al-Yusru (ease and sustainability), was tested to measure oxygen saturation (SpO2), heart rate, and body temperature in 25 participants. This activity increased community awareness about the importance of routine health monitoring and demonstrated the potential of non-invasive website-based technology in community health services.

Abstract

The Kompetisi Sains Madrasah (KSM) is an important science competition platform for madrasah students in Indonesia, requiring comprehensive preparation for both students and supervising teachers. This community service project aimed to provide science coaching for KSM at the elementary madrasah (MI) level in Pati District, preparing teachers and students for the provincial-level competition. The training was conducted from July 16-27, 2024, through a hybrid format combining online sessions via Zoom and offline sessions at the Ministry of Religious Affairs office in Pati. Sixteen students and five supervising teachers from various madrasah ibtidaiyah in Pati District participated in the program. The training covered comprehensive science topics required for KSM, including mechanics, heat and temperature, solar system, electricity and magnetism, matter and substances, light and optics, forces, energy and energy transformation, and earth and space science. Four instructors from the Physics Department of UIN Walisongo Semarang facilitated the training, with two instructors (Istikomah and Affa Ardhi Saputri) delivering sessions fully online. In contrast, the lead instructor (Sheilla Rully Anggita) conducted both online and offline sessions. The program utilized interactive presentations, question-and-answer discussions, and intensive problem-solving practice to develop participants' conceptual understanding and competitiveness skills. Challenges encountered included limited preparation time, technical issues with equipment during online sessions, and scheduling conflicts that prevented some participants from attending complete sessions. Solutions implemented included thorough equipment testing before sessions, careful time management, and coordination to minimize scheduling conflicts. The training successfully enhanced participants' understanding of KSM requirements and equipped teachers with strategies for ongoing student coaching, demonstrating effective collaboration between higher education institutions and the Ministry of Religious Affairs to support madrasah science education.

Abstract

Waste management remains an environmental problem in many urban areas, including Ciakar Village, Cibeureum District, Tasikmalaya City. Low public awareness of waste segregation and proper waste management has led to an increasing volume of waste ending up in landfills. The circular economy approach through waste banks addresses environmental issues and generates economic value for the community. This community service program aims to empower local residents by optimizing waste bank operations in line with circular economy principles. The implementation methods include socialization activities, education, waste segregation training, and assistance in waste bank management. The results indicate improved community understanding of the circular economy concept, increased community participation in waste bank activities, and the establishment of a more structured community-based waste management system. This program contributes to reducing household waste generation while simultaneously enhancing the economic value potential of managed waste.

Abstract

The Kompetisi Sains Madrasah (KSM) is a prestigious science competition organized by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia to enhance student achievement in science and technology at madrasah institutions. Effective preparation through intensive coaching is essential for students to perform optimally in this competition. This community service project aimed to provide pre-competition training for KSM participants at MTs Negeri 1 Pati, preparing students and supervising teachers for the 2026 KSM. The training was conducted from October 9th – November 22nd, 2025, involving 3 students and 1 supervising teacher who participated in an intensive coaching program covering physics topics required for the KSM. The training materials included mechanics, scientific skills and scientific methods, heat and temperature, solar system, electricity and magnetism, matter and substances, light and optics, forces, energy and energy transformation, and earth and space science. The program utilized direct instruction, question-and-answer sessions, intensive problem-solving practice, simulation exercises, and final evaluations. Instructors from the Physics Department of UIN Walisongo Semarang facilitated the training, providing comprehensive coverage of physics concepts and extensive practice with KSM-style problems. Challenges encountered included limited training time and dense material coverage that reduced opportunities for extensive problem-solving practice. To address time constraints, instructors provided participants with example problems and solutions for continued independent study. The training successfully equipped participants with a deeper understanding of physics concepts relevant to KSM and improved their problem-solving skills through intensive practice. This collaboration between university faculty and madrasah demonstrates an effective model for supporting student preparation for academic competitions and enhancing the quality of science education in madrasah.

Abstract

Effective astronomy education requires hands-on experience with modern technological tools and observational practices. This community service project aimed to enhance the pedagogical competencies of science teachers from the Science Teacher Working Group (MGMP IPA) of Grobogan District through comprehensive training in astronomy modeling and observation techniques. The training, conducted on July 17, 2025, at the Planetarium and Observatory of Universitas Islam Negeri Walisongo Semarang, integrated theoretical knowledge with practical applications using professional software and instruments. Participants engaged in interactive seminars featuring astronomical modeling through web-based simulations and specialized software including Stellarium, SpaceEngine, and Cartes du Ciel. The program also included immersive planetarium experiences with 4K dome visualization and hands-on telescope observation sessions. Feedback from 32 participating teachers indicated high satisfaction levels and increased confidence in implementing astronomy education in their classrooms. The collaboration between the educational institution and the teacher working group proved effective in bridging the gap between theoretical astronomy knowledge and practical teaching methodologies. This initiative highlights the critical role of planetariums and observatories in supporting STEM education and suggests the need for continued professional development programs for science educators.
