Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of the "Smart Corner" (Pojok Cerdas) as a learning strategy to enhance mathematical abilities in children aged 5–6 years at TK IT Nada Ashobah. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, focusing on naturalistic observation, interviews with teachers, and documentation of learning activities. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The findings reveal that the Smart Corner encourages active participation, exploration, and independent problem-solving in early numeracy skills such as counting, sorting, and recognizing patterns. Teachers play a crucial role in guiding and facilitating meaningful interactions through carefully selected materials and structured learning spaces. The learning environment supports children’s curiosity and builds a foundation for mathematical thinking through play-based experiences. The study concludes that integrating a Smart Corner in early childhood classrooms effectively supports the development of basic mathematical skills and fosters a positive attitude toward learning. These findings suggest that similar strategies could be implemented in other early childhood education settings to promote active and engaging mathematics learning.

Abstract

This research examines the urgency of parental involvement in the administration of early childhood education (ECE). It was found that parental participation is very important to support student development, shape positive behavior, and enhance adaptation skills to globalization. Although the role of parents is often considered trivial, its impact on a child's character is very significant. Research shows that parental involvement can be realized through various activities with teachers, both at home and at school, to optimize children's development. However, there are issues in the relationship between parents and schools, where many parents tend to fully entrust the education process to teachers without understanding their child's abilities. This research emphasizes the importance of positive communication and collaboration between parents and schools to create a supportive learning environment. Through the literature review method, the author presents various research findings that show parental involvement contributes to children's academic success and character development. The conclusion of this research is that the role of parents in education is very multifaceted and crucial. Active involvement from parents can help create a comfortable and collaborative learning environment, as well as support the development of children's independence. Increased awareness and efforts from both parties are necessary to ensure the continuity of education between home and school. Further research is recommended to explore other factors influencing parental involvement in children's education.

Abstract

This study examines the use of Eksplore Book, a play-based learning medium designed to strengthen early childhood literacy skills through interactive activities such as guessing words, arranging letters, and recognizing objects. This research is motivated by the need for literacy media that is interesting, according to children's development, and easy to implement in the PAUD environment. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this study observed the response of a five-year-old child during a directed learning session with Eksplore Book. Data were collected through direct observation and documentation of verbal expressions, written results, and children's involvement in activities. The results showed that children experienced improvements in letter recognition, word formation, and verbal expression, as well as showed high motivation and fun during the learning process. These activities not only support cognitive and fine motor development, but also encourage intrinsic motivation and spontaneous narrative abilities. These findings support the theory of early literacy and play-based learning, and demonstrate the effectiveness of media that combines exploratory and educational elements. In conclusion, the Eksplore Book is an effective and applicable medium in strengthening early literacy and has the potential to be applied more widely in the early childhood education environment.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the limited fine motor skills of 4–5-year-old children in cutting folded paper, partly due to teachers’ greater emphasis on student worksheets, which reduced engagement in hands-on activities. This classroom action research aimed to improve children’s fine motor skills through folded paper cutting activities. The study involved 10 children aged 4 5 years at TK Bhaktiwati, Sukomanunggal District, Surabaya, conducted from December 2024 to January 2025. The research applied the Kemmis and McTaggart model, consisting of two cycles, each including planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected using observation sheets focusing on children’s ability to hold scissors correctly, follow cutting lines, and complete tasks independently. The findings showed a consistent increase in cutting skills. The pre-cycle average score was 45% (5 children), which improved to 64.64% (7 children) in Cycle I. In Cycle II, the incorporation of smile card rewards made activities more engaging, resulting in increased mastery to 86.66% (9 children). Since the indicators were met in Cycle II, the research was completed. These results indicate that the use of demonstration methods combined with folded paper cutting activities positively enhances children’s fine motor development and engagement in learning.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of divorced parents’ parenting styles and children’s stress levels on resilience among early childhood populations in Surabaya City. Increasing rates of divorce in Indonesia raise concerns regarding the psychological well-being of children, particularly related to parenting practices and stress, which may affect their ability to develop resilience. A quantitative survey method was applied with purposive sampling to select children aged 4–6 years from divorced families. Data were collected using closed-ended questionnaires developed based on standardized theoretical indicators. Inferential statistical analyses were employed, including multiple correlation to examine relationships between variables, multiple linear regression to determine the contribution of each independent variable to resilience, and path analysis to explore direct and indirect effects. The findings reveal a significant relationship between parenting style and resilience, as well as between stress level and resilience. Furthermore, both independent variables simultaneously contributed significantly to resilience outcomes. Path analysis results indicate that stress serves as a mediating factor linking parenting style to resilience, suggesting that ineffective or inconsistent parenting increases stress, which subsequently reduces resilience. The study concludes that divorced parents’ parenting practices and children’s stress levels jointly influence resilience. Therefore, supportive parenting and interventions to reduce childhood stress are essential for strengthening resilience among children in divorce contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the influence of fatherlessness on children's resilience in Surabaya City. The background of this research is based on the increasing divorce rate, and research findings indicate that the minimal involvement of fathers in children's lives has the potential to have psychological impacts on children, which can subsequently affect their ability to build resilience. This research uses quantitative research methods with data collected thru a questionnaire survey. The sample in this study consisted of 5-6 year old children in the city of Surabaya, with 155 children serving as the research sample. The analysis tests consisted of validity tests, reliability tests, and simple regression tests. The data was then analyzed using SPSS 25 software for hypothesis testing. Based on the research findings, it is concluded that there is a significant influence of the fatherless variable on the resilience of 5-6 year old children in the city of Surabaya. This is indicated by the Sig. value from the Regression test, which is 0.000 < 0.05. This means Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. The higher the level of fatherlessness in children, the lower their level of resilience.
