Abstract

This study analyzes the act of illocution speech in the poem "Ayyuha al-Nas" by Tamim al-Barghouti with a pragmatic approach based on Searle's speech theory theory. This poem is an important representation of contemporary Arab socio-political poetry that is loaded with messages of leadership, social criticism, and affirmation of cultural identity. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with text analysis, covering five categories: directive, expressive, representative, commissive, and declarative. The results of the study show that this poem is dominated by assertive (representative) and expressive illocution, which functions as a moral invitation, collective awareness, and the formation of social identity. This research expands the pragmatic study of Arabic literature and affirms the position of poetry as a medium of public discourse. Penelitian ini menganalisis tindak tutur ilokusi dalam puisi “Ayyuha al-Nas” karya Tamim al-Barghouti dengan pendekatan pragmatic berbasis teori tindak tutur Searle. Puisi ini merupakan representasi penting dari puisi social-politik arab kontemporer yang sarat dengan pesan kepemimpinan, kritik social, dan afirmasi identitas budaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan analisis teks, mencakup lima kategori: direktif, eskpresif, representative, komisif, dan deklaratif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa puisi ini didominasi tindak ilokusi Asertif (representatitive) dan ekspresif, yang berfungsi sebagai ajakan moral, penyadaran kolektif, dan pembentukan identitas social. Penelitian ini memperluas kajian pragmatic sastra arab dan menegaskan posisi puisi sebagai medium wacana public.

Abstract

This research aims to explain modernism as one of the genres in Arabic literature, which has been more often understood in the framework of periodization than as a literary genre. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a literature study approach. Data was obtained from various written sources in the form of books and scientific articles that discuss literary genres, modernism, and the development of modern Arabic literature. The results of the study show that modernism is a literary school that was born in response to social, political, and intellectual changes, especially after World War I, which was marked by a humanitarian crisis and a shift in traditional values. In the context of Arabic literature, modernism developed along with the revival (nahḍah), the intensity of contact with the West, the advancement of education, and the role of the press in spreading new ideas. Modernism in Arabic literature is characterized by characteristics such as individualism, experimentation with form, absurdity, symbolism, and formalism. Thus, modernism reflects not only the renewal of literary forms and styles, but also the change in the way Arab writers view the function of literature in modern society. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan modernisme sebagai salah satu aliran dalam sastra Arab, yang selama ini lebih sering dipahami dalam kerangka periodesasi dibandingkan sebagai aliran sastra. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan studi pustaka. Data diperoleh dari berbagai sumber tertulis berupa buku dan artikel ilmiah yang membahas aliran sastra, modernisme, serta perkembangan sastra Arab modern. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa modernisme merupakan aliran sastra yang lahir sebagai respons terhadap perubahan sosial, politik, dan intelektual, khususnya pasca Perang Dunia I, yang ditandai oleh krisis kemanusiaan dan pergeseran nilai-nilai tradisional. Dalam konteks sastra Arab, modernisme berkembang seiring dengan kebangkitan (nahḍah), intensitas kontak dengan Barat, kemajuan pendidikan, dan peran pers dalam menyebarkan gagasan-gagasan baru. Modernisme dalam sastra Arab ditandai oleh karakteristik seperti individualisme, eksperimen bentuk, absurditas, simbolisme, dan formalisme. Dengan demikian, modernisme tidak hanya mencerminkan pembaruan bentuk dan gaya sastra, tetapi juga perubahan cara pandang sastrawan Arab terhadap fungsi sastra dalam masyarakat modern.

Abstract

This study analyzes the construction of armed conflict in Arabic news discourse through the nuanced application of four lexical anchors in Al Jazeera Arabic reporting: ḥarb (war), ṣirāʿ (conflict), silāḥ (weapons), and ḍaḥīya (victim). The issue at hand is that assessments of responsibility, humanitarian impact, and political legitimacy are frequently embedded in local lexical selections that are insufficiently analyzed in limited Arabic corpora. The goal is to figure out what these words mean in context and how they shape the way we talk about violence, competition, ability, and agency. The research utilizes a concordance-only corpus linguistic design through Sketch Engine. Ten hard news articles are collected into a custom corpus, and every Key Word in Context line for the four target words is read and coded, keeping clause-level co-text like intensifiers, numeric strings, attribution verbs, and source nouns. The findings show that there are different roles in the discourse. Ḥarb co selects with more intense descriptors and more precise numbers for humanitarian harm, such as detailed casualty and economic figures. This moralizes and measures war. Ṣirāʿ records competition between multiple actors and structural conflict, often placing current conflicts in the context of longer historical patterns. Silāḥ manifests in claims concerning military action that are evidentially circumscribed, as well as in material records detailing logistics, funding, and safe havens, while simultaneously leveraging public opinion data. ḍaḥīya functions as a transition from passive victimhood to an agentive identity through value-laden lexicon and the legitimization of surveys. Implications encompass the efficacy of concordance-based deep analysis for small Arabic corpora, practical monitoring criteria for newsrooms regarding numeric displays and source attribution, and groundwork for cross-outlet comparisons and Arabic-sensitive quantitative layering in subsequent research.

Abstract

The present study aims to provide an in-depth description of teachers’ perceptions of evaluation in Arabic language learning, including its purposes, functions, techniques, instruments, and the factors influencing its implementation in schools. In addition, this research seeks to understand how teachers perceive the effectiveness of evaluation in improving students’ learning outcomes. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method using a literature-based approach combined with primary data collected through in-depth interviews with Arabic language teachers. Secondary data were obtained from evaluation documents, instructional materials, and relevant literature. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, complemented by triangulation to ensure data validity. The findings reveal that teachers perceive evaluation as an essential component for measuring students’ abilities and the attainment of Arabic language learning objectives. However, its implementation still faces several challenges, including limited time allocation, insufficiently varied instruments, and the low utilization of formative assessment. Teaching experience, pedagogical understanding, and institutional support were found to influence teachers’ perceptions and practices in conducting evaluation. Furthermore, teachers believe that evaluation has the potential to enhance students’ learning outcomes; however, its effectiveness depends on the quality of the instruments, consistency of implementation, and appropriate follow-up measures such as feedback, remedial activities, and enrichment. Therefore, enhancing teachers’ competence in designing authentic assessments is necessary to optimize learning outcomes. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan secara mendalam persepsi guru terhadap evaluasi pembelajaran Bahasa Arab, meliputi tujuan, fungsi, teknik, instrumen, serta faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi implementasinya di sekolah. Selain itu, penelitian ini bertujuan memahami bagaimana guru menilai efektivitas evaluasi dalam meningkatkan capaian belajar siswa. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi pustaka dan pengumpulan data primer melalui wawancara mendalam kepada guru Bahasa Arab. Data sekunder diperoleh dari dokumen evaluasi, perangkat pembelajaran, serta literatur relevan. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman melalui proses reduksi, penyajian, dan penarikan kesimpulan, dilengkapi triangulasi untuk menjamin keabsahan data. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa guru memandang evaluasi sebagai bagian penting dalam mengukur kemampuan siswa dan pencapaian tujuan pembelajaran Bahasa Arab. Namun, pelaksanaannya masih menghadapi kendala seperti keterbatasan waktu, instrumen yang kurang bervariasi, serta rendahnya pemanfaatan evaluasi formatif. Faktor pengalaman mengajar, pemahaman pedagogik, dan dukungan sekolah memengaruhi persepsi guru dalam melaksanakan evaluasi. Selain itu, guru menilai bahwa evaluasi memiliki potensi meningkatkan capaian belajar siswa, tetapi efektivitasnya bergantung pada kualitas instrumen, konsistensi pelaksanaan, dan tindak lanjut berupa umpan balik, remedial, serta pengayaan. Dengan demikian, peningkatan kompetensi guru dalam merancang evaluasi autentik diperlukan untuk mengoptimalkan hasil pembelajaran.

Abstract

Palestinian poetry, particularly the works of Samih Al-Qasim, constitutes a form of artistic expression that cannot be separated from the socio-political realities surrounding it. As noted by Jayyusi (1992), Palestinian literature emerges from a collective historical experience marked by oppression, alienation, and the struggle to preserve identity. In this context, poetry functions not only as an aesthetic expression but also as a medium for articulating the social and political consciousness of the Palestinian people. Samih Al-Qasim, as one of the most significant Palestinian poets, consistently presents poems that reflect the relationship between the individual and the community. His works represent the tension between personal experience and the collective suffering endured by his people.This article aims to analyze the poem “Kama Nasya” by Samih Al-Qasim using the sociology of literature approach proposed by Lucien Goldmann (1964). This approach is chosen because it enables literary works to be read as expressions of the worldview of a collective subject, rather than merely as products of an individual poet’s creativity. The research employs a qualitative-descriptive method with interpretative analysis techniques focusing on the poetic structure, including diction, metaphor, and patterns of intersubjective relations. The structural analysis is then connected to the social and historical contexts that underlie the poem’s creation, as suggested in sociological studies of literature. Thus, this study seeks to systematically relate the structure of meaning in the text to the social conditions of Palestinian society. The results of the analysis indicate that the poem “Kama Nasya” not only expresses individual emotional experiences but also reflects the collective voice of the Palestinian people who have experienced marginalization and structural oppression. The relationship between the lyrical subjects “I” and “you” in the poem can be understood as a symbolic representation of the individual’s relationship with the community and the homeland. Through metaphorical language and reciprocal, egalitarian relations, the poem articulates values of solidarity, the resilience of identity, and the continuity of life’s meaning. Therefore, as emphasized by Said (1979), poetry functions as an important medium for social and cultural critique in the context of colonialism, while simultaneously serving as a means of symbolic resistance against domination and the erasure of collective identity. Puisi Palestina, khususnya karya-karya Samih Al-Qasim, merupakan bentuk ekspresi artistik yang tidak dapat dilepaskan dari realitas sosial-politik yang melingkupinya. Sebagaimana dikemukakan Jayyusi (1992), sastra Palestina lahir dari pengalaman historis kolektif yang ditandai oleh penindasan, keterasingan, dan perjuangan mempertahankan identitas. Dalam konteks ini, puisi tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai ungkapan estetis, tetapi juga sebagai medium artikulasi kesadaran sosial dan politik masyarakat Palestina. Samih Al-Qasim, sebagai salah satu penyair penting Palestina, secara konsisten menghadirkan puisi-puisi yang merefleksikan relasi antara individu dan komunitasnya. Karya-karyanya merepresentasikan ketegangan antara pengalaman personal dan penderitaan kolektif yang dialami oleh bangsanya. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis puisi “Kama Nasya” karya Samih Al-Qasim dengan menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi sastra yang dikemukakan oleh Lucien Goldmann (1964). Pendekatan ini dipilih karena memungkinkan pembacaan karya sastra sebagai ekspresi pandangan dunia suatu subjek kolektif, bukan sekadar hasil kreativitas individual penyair. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif-deskriptif dengan teknik analisis interpretatif terhadap struktur puisi, meliputi diksi, metafora, dan pola relasi antarsubjek. Analisis struktural tersebut kemudian dihubungkan dengan konteks sosial dan historis yang melatarbelakangi lahirnya puisi, sebagaimana disarankan dalam kajian sosiologi sastra. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini berupaya mengaitkan struktur makna teks dengan kondisi sosial masyarakat Palestina secara sistematis. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa puisi “Kama Nasya” tidak hanya mengekspresikan pengalaman emosional individu, tetapi juga mencerminkan suara kolektif masyarakat Palestina yang mengalami peminggiran dan penindasan struktural. Relasi antara subjek “aku” dan “engkau” dalam puisi dapat dipahami sebagai representasi simbolik dari hubungan individu dengan komunitas dan tanah airnya. Melalui bahasa metaforis dan relasi timbal balik yang setara, puisi ini menyuarakan nilai solidaritas, keteguhan identitas, dan keberlanjutan makna hidup. Oleh karena itu, sebagaimana ditegaskan oleh Said (1979), puisi berfungsi sebagai medium penting untuk kritik sosial dan kultural dalam konteks kolonialisme, sekaligus menjadi sarana perlawanan simbolik terhadap dominasi dan penghapusan identitas kolektif.

Abstract

This study was aimed at examining the use of swear word in the movie “Fast And Furious5”. The objectives if this study were to find out the ways of using swear word in the movie. This study was conducted by descriptive  qualitative method. The source of data was transcript the movies. The data were identified, analyzed, and categorized based on L,jung ( 2012 ) theory. The technique of data collection was interactive model by Miles and Huberman ( 2014 ). The study showed that : 1. There are three ways of using swear words such as (1) interjection, (2) emphasizer, (3), expletive slot filler in each movies, but from all of that ways interjections is the most in this movie. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji penggunaan kata makian dalam film Fast and Furious 5. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui cara-cara penggunaan kata makian dalam film tersebut. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah transkrip film. Data diidentifikasi, dianalisis, dan dikategorikan berdasarkan teori L. Jung (2012). Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan model interaktif oleh Miles dan Huberman (2014). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat tiga cara penggunaan kata makian, yaitu (1) interjeksi, (2) penegas (emphasizer), dan (3) pengisi slot ekspletif (expletive slot filler) dalam film tersebut.
