Abstract

The elderly are a vulnerable group that experiences a decline in physical function and quality of life, requiring easy and safe promotional interventions such as exercise for the elderly. This activity aims to improve the quality of life of the elderly and increase their knowledge in Hamlet 2, Sumber Sari Village. This program was held on Thursday, November 27, 2025, in the residential area of Hamlet 2, Kabawetan Subdistrict, targeting the elderly. The activity method used demonstrations of exercise for the elderly as a hands-on approach and hypertension screening for initial blood pressure checks. There were 20 elderly people who participated in this activity. The results of the activity showed that all participants were able to follow the exercise movements enthusiastically, and from the screening results, it was found that some participants had blood pressure above the normal limit, so they were given further education on healthy lifestyles. It was concluded that the demonstration method was effective in increasing the physical participation of the elderly and that elderly exercise had the potential to improve quality of life if done regularly, while hypertension screening was important for the prevention of health complications. It is recommended that senior citizen exercise be continued periodically through village health cadres, accompanied by routine blood pressure monitoring. Recommendations for health centers and village officials include strengthening community-based senior citizen health programs, providing exercise assistance, and improving follow-up for senior citizens with hypertension screening results.

Abstract

Hypertension is a common public health issue found among adults and the elderly at the community level. The lack of routine blood pressure monitoring and limited understanding of nonpharmacological therapies pose challenges in managing hypertension. This community service activity aims to improve community knowledge and empowerment in the management of hypertension through education and demonstrations of celery leaf decoctions as complementary therapies. The activity was conducted in Kaliwining Village, Rambipuji Subdistrict, Jember Regency, on February 4 and 9, 2026, targeting adults and the elderly. The methods used included health screening (blood pressure, weight, and height measurements), interactive counseling on hypertension management, and a demonstration of preparing acelery leaf decoction. The results of the activity showed active participant engagement, the identification of participants with high blood pressure, and improved understanding of risk factors, complications, medication adherence, and lifestyle modifications. Participants were able to recap the material presented and demonstrated interest in applying non-pharmacological therapy at home. This activity was effective in raising awareness and empowering the community in the management of hypertension.

Abstract

The implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Practices (PHBS) in Islamic boarding schools is a crucial step toward minimizing the risk of disease and improving the health of students. According to the results of the Indonesian Health Survey (SKI), the prevalence of daily smoking among adolescents aged 10–18 in East Java reached 5.3%, while occasional smoking stood at 2.6%. The rate of proper handwashing compliance is only 58.4%, accompanied by suboptimal waste management practices, such as open burning of waste (65.8%). These conditions underscore the urgency of strengthening PHBS education programs. The approaches implemented included: (1) lecture sessions presenting core material, and (2) brainstorming techniques that encouraged active participant engagement in sharing perspectives on the material. Educational videos were selected as supporting media due to their ease of use and ability to present visual and narrative information that is more engaging and easily digestible. Pre-intervention evaluations indicated that the majority of students fell into the “adequate” (40.5%) and “inadequate” (32.4%) categories. Following the intervention—which included lectures, discussions, and demonstrations—the proportion in the “good” category surged to 59.5%, with the “poor” category disappearing entirely. It can be concluded that the health education intervention proved effective in improving PHBS practices among boarding school students.

Abstract

Petung Hamlet, located in Kretek Village, Bondowoso Regency, possesses considerable potential in the development of forest honey derived from local Apis cerana bees. However, traditional harvesting, processing, and packaging practices have resulted in suboptimal product quality and limited market competitiveness. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge and technical skills of local beekeepers through training on hygienic honey processing and packaging based on food sanitation principles and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The program was implemented using a participatory approach consisting of problem identification, field observation, preparation of standard operating procedures (SOP), training, mentoring, and evaluation. The results demonstrated an increase in participants’ understanding and awareness regarding hygienic processing techniques, proper packaging methods, and product quality improvement. In addition, the introduction of a manual centrifugal honey extractor supported more efficient and hygienic honey extraction practices. The program contributed to strengthening local honey product competitiveness, increasing community empowerment, and supporting sustainable rural economic development based on local forest resources.

Abstract

Flood is one of the most frequent hydrometeorological disasters in Jember Regency and may affect community health, safety, and daily activities. Curah Lele Hamlet, Wonoasri Village, is a flood-prone area that requires improved community preparedness. This study aimed to describe community preparedness toward flood disasters through disaster preparedness bag education. A one-group pretest-posttest design was used involving 14 residents of Curah Lele Hamlet. The intervention was delivered through lectures and discussions supported by leaflets. Preparedness was measured using questionnaires before and after the educational program. The results showed that all respondents (100%) were categorized as having good preparedness in both pretest and posttest assessments. Disaster preparedness bag education helped maintain and strengthen community understanding of disaster preparedness, particularly regarding the functions and contents of a preparedness bag. This activity can serve as a family- and community-based disaster mitigation strategy in flood-prone areas.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, heart disease, and stroke are major causes of morbidity and mortality in various countries, including Indonesia. One factor contributing to the high incidence of NCDs is the low public knowledge regarding risk factors and prevention efforts. Community nursing education is an effective promotive and preventive strategy to increase public understanding and encourage changes in healthy lifestyle behaviors. This community service activity aims to increase public knowledge about NCD prevention through community nursing education. The methods used included health education, interactive discussions, and distribution of educational media in the form of leaflets to participants. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test methods to measure changes in knowledge levels before and after the education activity. The results of the activity showed an increase in the average community knowledge score after the education. Participants also showed high enthusiasm during the discussion session and were able to re-explain various NCD risk factors, the importance of a healthy diet, physical activity, smoking cessation, and regular health check-ups. Community nursing education has proven effective in increasing public knowledge about NCD prevention and is expected to encourage the adoption of healthy lifestyle behaviors on an ongoing basis. Similar activities need to be carried out routinely by involving various stakeholders so that NCD prevention efforts can reach a wider community.
