Abstract

Toddlers who experience long-term malnutrition, especially in the first 1000 days of life, can experience growth failure or commonly called stunting. Indonesia has a target to reduce the incidence rate to 14% by 2024. The results of the 2022 Indonesian Nutritional Status Study (SSGI) showed that the prevalence of stunting in toddlers in Indonesia was 21.6% (Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, 2022). The government has set a target to reduce stunting to 14% by 2024. Although there has been a decline, the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia is still high, at 19.8%. In dusun I, village of E Wonokerto, there are 12 out of 45 toddlers who experience stunting. The government and the entire community must play a role in efforts to achieve the 2030 stunting target. Continuous education is considered to be one way to reduce stunting rates. This activity aims to increase public knowledge including pregnant women and Posyandu cadres so that they can recognize stunting, know prevention efforts, and manage stunting. The method used in this activity is through counseling activities containing material about stunting, causes and impacts of stunting and how to prevent stunting starting from the first 1000 days of life. The activity lasts for 120 minutes. The level of knowledge of participants is measured before and after the activity through questions and answers. This activity has succeeded in increasing public knowledge. All components of society are expected to be able to actively participate in efforts to reduce the incidence of stunting.

Abstract

Hypertension or high blood pressure is one of the most dangerous health problems throughout the world. Hypertension is also a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease such as heart attack, heart failure, stroke and kidney disease. Hypertension is estimated to cause 7.1 million deaths or approximately 13% of all deaths in the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), almost half of heart attack cases are triggered by hypertension or high blood pressure. Most high blood pressure occurs in the older generation (elderly) due to physiological and pathological changes with increasing age. Therefore, it is very necessary to prevent and maintain the quality of life of the elderly to avoid hypertension. especially in the area of Hamlet 1, E Wonokerto Village which is affected by lack of knowledge and lack of healthy lifestyle. The 2025 Thematic Community Service Program (KKN-T) of Dehasen University Bengkulu focuses on efforts to prevent hypertension through an educational approach, namely with the method of hypertension counseling, implementation of good eating patterns and elderly gymnastics and distribution of leaflets. This activity was carried out through collaboration with village officials and the local community. The results of the activity showed an increase in public awareness regarding the importance of knowledge and regular treatment for hypertension sufferers. This program has proven effective as a community-based promotive and preventive strategy that can be a model for implementation in other areas. Cross-sector collaboration and ongoing education are very important to support efforts to reduce the incidence of hypertension. The method used is to conduct health education with counseling media using Leaflets to increase the knowledge of the elderly about hypertension. The results of this Community Service activity concluded that the understanding of the Elderly about hypertension has increased both in terms of understanding hypertension, causes of hypertension, signs and symptoms of hypertension, prevention of hypertension, and treatment of hypertension and handling of hypertension. Abstract

Environmental health is a crucial aspect in maintaining community quality of life, particularly in densely populated areas such as RT 19, Sawah Lebar Baru Village, Bengkulu. The lack of public knowledge regarding sanitation, waste management, and vector control contributes to the high risk of environment-related diseases. This Thematic Community Service Program (KKN-T) from Dehasen University Bengkulu aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of environmental health education in improving community knowledge and practices through environmental clean-up activities, distribution of educational leaflets, health counseling, and group discussions. The results revealed that the majority of the community initially had limited knowledge about environmental health. Implemented in the RT 19 residential area, the program demonstrated significant improvement in community awareness regarding environmental cleanliness. We recommend regular implementation of this education program by health workers and Posyandu cadres to achieve a healthy and self-reliant community.

Abstract

High-risk pregnancy is a serious challenge in maternal health services, especially in rural areas with limited access to information and healthcare facilities. E Wonokerto Village, Tugumulyo Subdistrict, Musi Rawas Regency, has reported a relatively high prevalence of Resiko Tinggi based on data from the local health center. This study aims to analyze the situation of high-risk pregnant women, evaluate the effectiveness of community-based intervention programs, and formulate strategies to improve the quality of antenatal care services. Based on the report in 2024, there were 31 pregnant women recorded, with 7 classified as high-risk, while in the 2025 report, there were 10 pregnant women recorded, with 3 (36.5%) classified as high-risk. Using a descriptive qualitative method and a participatory approach, the study found that intensive education and social support play a crucial role in reducing the risk of Resiko Tinggi. Additionally, the research highlights that the lack of knowledge among pregnant women regarding danger signs of pregnancy and limited access to adequate healthcare facilities are the main barriers to managing Resiko Tinggi in this village. The community-based intervention program, involving health cadres and community leaders, was found to be effective in raising awareness about pregnancy risks and the importance of regular antenatal check-ups. The findings support the need for improved maternal healthcare services through a more holistic and community-empowerment-based approach. The study recommends enhanced training for local health workers as well as improving transportation access for pregnant women to reach adequate healthcare facilities.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between anemia and the incidence of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women in Desa Wonokerto Dusun 2, Kecamatan Tugumulyo, Kabupaten Musi Rawas. Anemia and CED are common health problems in pregnant women that can affect both maternal and fetal health. The research method used is observational with a cross-sectional approach. The sample used in this study consisted of 25 pregnant women from Desa Wonokerto Dusun 2. Data collection was conducted through interviews and nutritional status measurements, including hemoglobin (Hb) tests and upper arm circumference (UAC) measurements to detect CED. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test to determine the relationship between anemia and the incidence of CED. The results showed a significant relationship between anemia and the occurrence of CED in pregnant women in Desa Wonokerto (p < 0.05). A decrease in hemoglobin levels in pregnant women increases the risk of developing CED. It is hoped that the findings of this study can serve as a basis to increase attention to maternal health in the area and reduce the prevalence of anemia and CED.

Abstract

Smoking is one of the main risk factors for several chronic diseases that can cause death. Many studies have shown that smoking behavior can increase the risk of various diseases that can cause death. This shows that smoking is a major problem for public health (Prihatiningsih et al., 2020). A report from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2019 stated that over the past two decades, overall tobacco users (cigarettes, cigars, kretek cigarettes) globally have decreased. In 2010, the number of tobacco users or smokers recorded was 1.397 billion people worldwide, while in 2018 the figure decreased to 1.337 billion. The decline in this figure proves that in the past two decades, the number of tobacco users or smokers has decreased by around 60 million people worldwide. Despite the decline, the prevalence of smokers is still very high and can have a bad impact (Kaniawati et al., 2021). Based on data from Based on the report of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the percentage of the Indonesian population aged 15 years and over who smoked in the past month was 28.62% in 2023. This percentage increased by 0.36% points from last year which was 28.26%. For the South Sumatra region, it is still high with a value of 30.91% and for data on residents of hamlet III in E. Wonokerto village who actively smoke, there are still 30 residents who smoke, dominated by fathers. The method used in this counseling is to distribute leaflets and questions and answers. The purpose of this activity is to change a healthy lifestyle without cigarette smoke to implement a healthy home environment without cigarette smoke.
