Abstract

Forest and land fires has had impact in the degradation of environmental conditions, human health, socio-economic conditions, and increased carbon emissions on the earth's surface. The phenomenon of Karhutla occurs almost every year in Jambi. Inadequate protection management and destructive practices, such as peatland drainage, have caused a decline in the carrying capacity and resilience of the environment, leading to various ecological disasters such as forest and land fires in Jambi. This study aims to capture the events of forest and land fires in Jambi that occurred between 2015 and 2024. The data are gathered from a peat restoration monitoring by Wahana Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia [WALHI] 2019-2020, Jambi Government, media information, and Peat Restoration Agency (BRG). The result of this study show that there are many peatland restoration projects carried out by companies do not comply with government regulations. Consequently, the peatland fires demonstrate a weak law enforcement effort and the failure of peatland restoration. From a political ecology perspective, the failure of peatland restoration reflects unequal power relations between the state, corporations, and local communities, where weak governance and profit-oriented policies undermine environmental justice and sustainability. Therefore, prevention through a political policy and political ecplogy are very essential.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) policy at SDN 2 Sokaraja Tengah. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method. Informants were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The study was conducted at SDN 2 Sokaraja Tengah. Data analysis followed the model proposed by Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the implementation of the P5 policy at SDN 2 Sokaraja Tengah demonstrates effective communication, reflected in the clarity, transmission, and consistency of information. However, challenges remain in teachers’ understanding of P5 and in maintaining continuous communication with parents. In terms of resources, support is considered adequate, as reflected in the strong commitment of teachers; nevertheless, limitations persist in conceptual understanding of P5 and the availability of teaching modules. Funding for P5 activities is supported by BOS funds and parental contributions managed transparently, although limitations in facilities and infrastructure remain a constraint. Regarding disposition, policy implementers, particularly the school principal, exhibit strong commitment and supportive attitudes, fostering active collaboration despite existing challenges. The bureaucratic structure functions well, supported by clear and systematic Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), although detailed understanding of SOPs is not yet evenly distributed among school members. This study contributes to the enrichment of educational policy studies, particularly by providing insights into the alignment between policy design at the political level and implementation capacity at the school level, which has often been overlooked in policy analysis.

Abstract

Public transportation is expected to function as a safe and inclusive space for all citizens; however, for many women, it frequently becomes a setting marked by insecurity and fear. This study examines the forms of sexual harassment experienced by female users of public transportation in Makassar City and analyzes the social, cultural, and structural factors that shape its occurrence. Using a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with women who regularly use pete-pete, pedicabs, and Teman Bus. Thematic analysis was employed to identify recurring patterns and meanings. The findings show that sexual harassment manifests in verbal, non-verbal, and physical forms, with pete-pete emerging as the most common site. The problem is rooted not only in individual behavior but also in entrenched patriarchal norms and the cultural value of siri’, which tends to silence women, as well as structural shortcomings in transport governance that lacks gender sensitivity. Weak reporting mechanisms further limit women’s ability to seek protection and justice. The study concludes that sexual harassment in public transportation emerges from the interplay between culture, power relations, and institutional structures. It calls for gender-responsive transport policies that integrate safety measures, public education, and victim-centered reporting systems to ensure women’s rights to safe and equitable mobility.

Abstract

Re-voting (Pemungutan Suara Ulang or PSU) is a corrective mechanism in Indonesian elections often associated with voter fatigue and declining participation. However, a significant anomaly occurred at Polling Station 66 in Simpang Rimbo Village, Jambi City, during the 2024 Election, where voter turnout remained stable despite procedural repetition. This study investigates the determinants of this persistence through a qualitative case study, utilizing Expectancy-Value Theory as the analytical framework. Data were collected via in-depth interviews with voters, organizers, and community leaders. The findings reveal that high retention was driven by the strong social embeddedness of local political actors who mobilized early, serving as guarantees for voter expectancy. Furthermore, the re-voting process was successfully reframed from a mere administrative correction into a defense of local sovereignty, elevating the intrinsic value of participation. The study concludes that voter fatigue is not inevitable; it can be neutralized when there is strong political resonance between strategic actor mobilization and the collective emotional bonds of the community, challenging conventional assumptions regarding re-election dynamics.

Abstract

This research aims to analyse claims in the conflict after the joint stipulation of TNBD management policy and its background. The zoning-based forest area management policy has caused multidimensional conflict between the government and the Orang Rimba. The results showed that the conflict became multidimensional because the involvement of other actors who previously had no interest in forest resources penetrated the forest area, causing the problem to become more complex. Conflicts that continue to occur are caused by policies agreed upon that do not impact those living in the area to reaccess forest resources freely. In addition, the contradiction between formal regulations and local customary law is also a cause of conflict. The policies implemented are considered inappropriate to the existing conditions because they do not feel the existence of indigenous peoples living in the area. Therefore, in forest management with regions with specificities, such as indigenous peoples, there needs to be a comprehensive policy accompanied by a deep understanding of local values. Differences in understanding the policy context are the root cause of conflict.
