Abstract

Considering that English is not the main language in Indonesia, an effective teaching method at school is crucial to students' ability to speak English fluently. However, in reality, many teachers still depend on conventional teaching methods. Therefore, this teaching assistance aims to facilitate Kasih Bangsa Elementary School students with a method that considers students' overall intelligence adapted from the Multiple Intelligences theory proposed by Howard Gardner, who argues that a person can have more than one intelligence. Furthermore, this teaching assistance is based on the Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) method, which focuses on the collaboration between researchers and communities. The program consists of three main processes: an interview with teachers of Kasih Bangsa Elementary School, a workshop on Multiple Intelligences Theory for the teachers, and a teaching demonstration by some of the students of the English Department, Maranatha Christian University. From this teaching assistance, the Multiple Intelligences theory is proven to improve the learning quality and boost students' motivation effectively.

Abstract

Education is the right of every citizen, including students with special needs, such as physical, emotional, mental, intellectual, and social disabilities. To facilitate proper education for students with special needs, a team consisting of permanent lecturers from the Electrical Engineering Study Program at Unika De La Salle Manado cared for and committed to supporting students with special needs at SMP Kristen Permata Hati Manado. The team tried to apply a 12-button board based on an ESP32 microcontroller for students with special needs or students with disabilities at SMP Kristen Permata Hati Manado to make it easier for them to communicate and interact with teachers while in class, especially when examinations are in progress or learning activities is in progress. The input on the 12-button board was processed into sound (speech) which was then sent to the receiver wirelessly so that what was conveyed by students with disabilities in the classroom could be understood by the teacher through the speakers. The results of implementation in school received a good response from the teachers and the students. Teachers were also very helpful in providing students with an understanding of the use of assistive technology.

Abstract

As an effort to realize children's concern for each other, an activity was carried out with the union of parents and teachers at one of the kindergartens in Beji Timur, Depok. This moment continues previous activities with the aim of being a solution to maintain the sustainability of social activities at Raudhatul Athfal Taufiqurrahman. Using participatory action research, the approach involves providing dissemination to children about the importance of sharing with others. The activity was carried out in the month of Ramadan, attended by 30 students with the school principal, accompanying teachers, and representatives of the student’s parents. At this event, the children distributed gifts to orphans and people in need around the school. With this action, children experience sharing with others so that the support of parents and teachers is expected to be touched and interested in social activities. This effort is related to the formation of good character in children so that collaboration with stakeholders will support the sustainability of this education. The togetherness of several parties is a form of subjective norm so that children become more interested in social activities. Meanwhile, messages reminded by teachers and mothers at home can form a positive attitude towards social activities. In this way, children can assess this activity as a positive experience, thereby fostering awareness and prosocial behavior in their adult years. This is in line with the sustainable development goals to ensure development progress for children. As a recommendation, further activities can be carried out with orphanages.

Abstract

The coastal area of Medan Marelan District in Medan City, North Sumatra Province, has extensive mangrove forests that have not been fully utilized. LKP Walidayna supports the empowerment program for productive communities in the coastal areas of Medan City. Currently, LKP Walidayna has provided training on processing mangrove fruits to the community, turning them into various processed food products such as Mangrove Pudding, Mangrove Syrup, Mangrove Jam, and Mangrove Dodol. The vocational training institution (LKP) is one form of non-formal education that communities can utilize to enhance quality, skills, and productivity. However, LKP Walidayna faces limitations, including the lack of effective information media to market its products more widely. Therefore, the proposed solution is the creation of a website and e-commerce platform to promote LKP Walidayna's mangrove products using effective and attractive marketing techniques. The e-commerce platform would contain information about activities, especially the processing of mangrove products. Based on feedback from participants in the product design and marketing strategy training for processed mangrove products through the website, it is concluded that the conducted training activities align with the needs of LKP Walidayna. LKP Walidayna expressed satisfaction with the visually appealing and user-friendly website.

Abstract

Information Technology (IT) literacy is very important and should be taught even in early education. Proper use of IT is needed by the young generations today. Introduction to IT should be done while still in elementary school. However, since the infrastructure of Indonesia is not even among the cities, a glimpse of IT is a privilege enjoyed by students in big cities. Students in smaller cities often face difficulties and tardiness regarding the use of technology. For instance, the students of SD Negeri 02 Sijuk have deficiencies in facilities and infrastructure, which causes a low level of literacy in information technology. Therefore, basic computer skill training was created to introduce the technology to its students. In this training, the students are taught to design and process text and images to create attractive presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint. The students showed very high enthusiasm when the training was carried out. In the end, through this training, the students were successfully introduced to the use of information technology.

Abstract

The implementation of waste management from upstream (community) by the Yogyakarta City Government has had an impact on the city community, including residents of RW 6 Demangan Sub-district, Gondokusuman District. Communities have limited knowledge and ability to manage inorganic waste independently. Facing these problems, the community needs assistance to increase knowledge and develop the ability to manage inorganic waste. This is important so that the Yogyakarta City Government's goal of achieving zero inorganic waste can be realized. The community service program aims to educate the community through training and workshop in waste management and processing so that it can reduce the production of inorganic waste. Assistance in the form of education, training, and practices in managing and processing inorganic waste needs to be carried out to increase the knowledge and skills of the community so that waste self-management can be realized. The community service results show that the community of RW 06 is able to manage and process waste. However, waste management and processing activities must be carried out consistently so that the target of zero inorganic waste is achieved.
