Abstract

Abstract: Surface morphology, surface material, greenery, anthropogenic heat and air pollutants are known as the elements that determine the thermal environment performance. These elements, hence, should determine the outdoor thermal comfort level. However, previous studies mentioned that the role of psychological adaptation in outdoor thermal comfort is greater than in the indoor. Therefore, exploring perceived elements, which determine the thermal environment, could enrich the perspective of a design approach of thermally comfortable open spaces. This study aims to explore the perceived elements of thermal environment, which contribute to the outdoor thermal comfort using open-ended questions of an online questionnaire. Several keywords obtained by the content analysis of 101 respondents’ answers affirm the role of the thermal environment elements in modifying the thermal environment. Tree or greenery, the most frequently appeared keyword, showed as the strongest perceived element. New keywords that significantly appeared; i.e. visual aspects, supporting facilities, and tranquility; indicate the importance of thermo-spatial perception approach in designing livable and thermally comfortable outdoor environment. Keywords: elements of thermal environment, outdoor thermal comfort, perception, psychological adaptation,Abstraksi: Morfologi permukaan, permukaan material, area hijau, panas antropogenik dan polutan udara diketahui sebagai elemen-elemen yang menentukan performansi lingkungan termal.

Abstract

Abstract Rapid development of information technology offers computer as an interesting teaching tool. This study of investigated the effectiveness of Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) as a teaching media of “Struktur dan Konstruksi Bangunan Gedung 1” in School of Architecture at UAJY. Case based pre-test and post-test are the research instruments. They are used to measure the improvement of student’s competence in applying structural principles with the structural design of a one story building in respect to the using of CAD as a teaching media. Both thesis were conducted four times, each before and after presentation of the subject matter using CAD.T test shows significant improvement of student’s learning achievement due to the use of CAD as a teaching media. Some facilities in CAD could help students to understand the position and the relation of structural elements by presenting them in 2 dimensions and 3 dimensions simultaneously in district colors, which are not available in conventional media. Keywords: Computer Aided Drawing (CAD), case based learning, learning achievement

Abstract

Gumulan village, one of 14 villages in Caturharjo Village, has the highest population density, which launched a movement of 14 vegetable villages in the form of a nutrition garden. This community service activity aimed to assist the Gumulan Village in reviving a nutrition garden that was abandoned due to the pandemic through an integrated nutrition garden design service with a green architecture approach. The added facilities based on the results of the identification of the village’s problems and potency are intended to optimize the land use, empower communities and natural resources (bamboo), and develop local arts, which lead to improving the health and welfare of the population without destroying the environment. With the concept of green architecture, an integrated nutrition garden design can be realized as a space for gardening, exercising, playing, culinary tours, and performances that suit the environmental context.
