Abstract

Environmental degradation has become a pressing global challenge that calls for ethical responses from all sectors of society, including the Christian faith community. This article aims to examine ecological awareness within the Christian faith and the ethical responsibility of believers toward the environment. This study employs a qualitative research method with a literature review approach, drawing on biblical texts, theological sources, and scholarly discussions on ecotheology and Christian ethics. The findings indicate that the Christian faith fundamentally teaches human responsibility as God’s creation to care for and preserve the natural world. The concept of stewardship emphasizes that excessive exploitation of nature contradicts God’s will. Therefore, ecological awareness is not merely a social or environmental concern but an integral part of Christian faith and practice. This article affirms that churches and believers have a strategic role in fostering ethical attitudes, ecological spirituality, and concrete actions to protect environmental sustainability as an expression of obedience to God.

Abstract

The purpose of this writing is to show that Christians have a responsibility to uphold Christian ethical values in the implementation of environmental stewardship. In conducting this study, a qualitative research method is employed. To seek answers to the problems described, the author uses a qualitative writing method through a library research approach, namely a study of the Holy Scriptures and relevant literature. The approach used in this research is Qualitative Biblical Theology. Biblical theologians seek to understand the meaning of biblical texts for their original audience (meant) as well as the factual meaning of those texts for contemporary readers (mean or application). The results of this study indicate that Christian concern for environmental preservation is very low, and nature is not fully regarded as God’s creation. The environmental crisis faced by modern humanity is a direct result of “unethical” environmental management. This means that humans manage natural resources with little regard for ethical considerations. Thus, it can be said that there is an ethical or moral crisis. Humanity shows a lack of concern for norms and is driven more by personal interests. The ethics referred to here are not merely ethics in a broad or general sense.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the role of social ethics in life and in the dynamics of the Church’s real ministry as a manifestation of contextual and transformative Christian faith. The Church in its entirety is called not only as a spiritual community, but also as a moral agent that brings the values of the Kingdom of God into this increasingly complex social reality. Using a qualitative approach through literature study, this research then examines how Christian social ethics plays a role in shaping the orientation of the Church’s ministry in responding to issues of injustice, poverty, moral crisis, and social realities that are quite preoccupying to many elements. Theological reflections based on Matthew 25:35-40 then became a reference in understanding the Church’s calling to continue serving Christ through service to others, especially marginalized groups. The results of the study show that Christian social ethics, in its function as a bridge between faith and practice, is a means of renewing personal spirituality, strengthening the integrity of the Church’s ministry, and encouraging social transformation that is just. Thus, the Church’s ministry oriented towards the application of social ethics is not merely a philanthropic act, but a tangible, prophetic, and living testimony of faith that is relevant in the midst of the dynamics of modern society today.

Abstract

Churches in Indonesia face complex challenges in managing generational diversity that triggers conflict, miscommunication, and exodus of younger generations due to monogenerational leadership dominance. This research aims to develop a church leadership framework based on the SERVE model capable of integrating the strengths of each generation, facilitating intergenerational dialogue, transferring wisdom, empowering young leadership without marginalizing seniors, and building a shared vision that transcends generational preferences. The theories used include the SERVE model (Spiritual, Effective, Relational, Visionary leadership, and External relations) from Karl Inge Tangen, cross-generational leadership principles in Titus 2:1-8, as well as concepts of intergenerational leadership, servant leadership, and transformational leadership. The research method uses a qualitative approach with library research through content analysis of biblical texts, theological leadership literature, and previous research. The results show that the integration of five dimensions of the SERVE model with the principles of Titus 2:1-8 produces a comprehensive transformative leadership framework: Spiritual leadership as the foundation of communion with God, Effective leadership as an inclusive system, Relational leadership as the formation of authentic intergenerational community, Visionary leadership as articulation of transcendent shared vision, and External relations as holistic mission mobilization which proves capable of making the church a healthy, dynamic, and relevant community for all generations.

Abstract

Contemporary church leadership faces an effectiveness crisis characterized by internal conflicts, low congregational trust, and weak relational competencies of leaders. This study aims to analyze and integrate emotional and spiritual intelligence based on Goleman's theory with the kenosis leadership paradigm in Philippians 2:1-11 to formulate a holistic Christian leadership framework. Using qualitative methods with integrative biblical-theological analysis, this research explores Philippians 2:1-11 through in-depth exegesis and integrates it with Goleman's emotional-spiritual intelligence theory through systematic literature review. The results show that Christ's kenosis exemplifies all five of Goleman's emotional intelligence competencies perfectly: self-awareness without arrogance, extraordinary self-management, intrinsic transcendent motivation, profound empathy, and transformative social skills, with the spiritual dimension as foundation. The resulting leadership framework emphasizes holistic development including spiritual formation, biblical self-awareness, mature emotional management, transcendent motivation, Christian empathy, and trained relational skills. Practical implications include integrating emotional-spiritual intelligence development in church leadership training curriculum through coaching, supervision, and periodic spiritual renewal.

Abstract

The inability of Christian youth to distinguish between healthy relationships and toxic relationships is a major cause of the high rates of intimate partner violence in dating relationships. This research aims to develop a relational literacy education model based on 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 to prevent toxic relationships and promote healthy relationships among Christian youth. The study employs a qualitative methodology using literature review design, collecting and analyzing over 30 academic sources through thematic content analysis. Research findings demonstrate that agape love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 provides a clear theological standard for evaluating relational health, characterized by patience, generosity, non-jealousy, and selflessness. The developed relational literacy education model integrates three learning dimensions: (1) theological consciousness and critical evaluation, (2) communication skills and boundary-setting, and (3) emotional-spiritual awareness. This model can be implemented through youth discipleship programs, pre-marital counseling, and support groups within churches. This research contributes theoretically and practically to the development of pastoral counseling and Christian religious education in preventing relational violence among youth.

Abstract

This article examines the theological significance of Lamentations of Jeremiah 3:31–33 by highlighting God's faithful love amidst the people's suffering. The text of Lamentations of Jeremiah arose from the context of the destruction of Jerusalem, which created a crisis of faith, social, and spirituality for the people of Judah. In this situation, suffering is easily understood as a sign of God's rejection and absence. However, through a theological study of Lamentations of Jeremiah 3:31–33, this article shows that God's rejection is not eternal, His mercy continues to operate amidst hardship, and He does not desire to oppress humanity. This research uses a qualitative approach with library methods and theological hermeneutic interpretation of relevant Indonesian-language Bible texts and Old Testament literature. The results of the study indicate that the suffering in Lamentations of Jeremiah does not negate the covenant relationship between God and His people, but rather becomes a space for profound reflection on faith. God's faithful love is understood as a reality that transcends the subjective experience of suffering and becomes the basis for mature and realistic hope. This article emphasizes that true faith does not avoid lamentation but instead finds hope in it.

Abstract

This research aims to integrate 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 with the theory of ministry of reconciliation to construct a missiological framework that balances the dimensions of yet and not yet in contemporary mission. Contemporary missiology, particularly the work of Nelus Niemandt, pays great attention to present life through deep contextualization and deep incarnation, but the eschatological dimension and mission as a ministry of reconciliation receive inadequate attention. Method: The research employs a qualitative approach with intertextual exegesis of 2 Corinthians 5:18-19, systematic theological analysis of the theory of ministry of reconciliation, and critical evaluation of Niemandt's missiology. Exegesis demonstrates that reconciliation is God's definitive soteriological action while continuing toward eschatological consummation. The theory of ministry of reconciliation from Schreiter, Volf, and Langmead affirms that reconciliation encompasses vertical, horizontal, and ecological dimensions inseparable from liberation and restorative justice. Niemandt's missiology, though valuable in contextualization, shows limitations in integrating redemptive and eschatological perspectives. Integration produces a holistic missiological framework balancing present transformation with eschatological hope for cosmic renewal as the telos of God's salvific plan.

Abstract

This writing discusses the teachings of Sufism in the Qadiriyah Naqsyabandiyah tariqa within the manuscript titled Fathu Al-Arifin, authored by Syekh Ahmad Khatib Sambas on 9 Jumadil Awwal 1287 Hijriyah. In addition to addressing Sufi teachings, this writing also describes the physical condition of the manuscript, known in philological studies as codicology. This research is descriptive-qualitative in nature, employing a literature study method for data collection. The approach used in this research is the codicological approach. The results of this research reveal the presence of procedures (zikir guidelines) imbued with Sufi nuances in the Fathu Al-Arifin manuscript. These zikir guidelines are embodied in the practices of the Qadiriyah Naqsyabandiyah tariqa. Furthermore, the Fathu Al-Arifin manuscript also contains information on bai'at and talkin in the Qadiriyah Naqsyabandiyah tariqa. Syekh Ahmad Khatib Sambas combined two tariqas (Qadiriyah and Naqsyabandiyah) into one, namely the Qadiriyah Naqsyabandiyah tariqa, resulting in two zikir techniques in the Qadiriyah Naqsyabandiyah tariqa: nafi isbat (loud vocal zikir) and sirri ism dzat (silent heart-based zikir). The Qadiriyah tariqa practices jahri nafi isbat zikir (loud vocal), while the Naqsyabandiyah tariqa practices sirri ism dzat zikir (silent in the heart). There are four zikir methods in the Qadiriyah Naqsyabandiyah tariqa: perfection of suluk, adab, zikir, and muraqabah.

Abstract

The rapid changes in contemporary society present complex social dynamics and often create tension in human life. Globalization, pluralism, and the transformation of social values demand new ways of reading the relationship between faith, the church, and social reality. This article aims to examine the dialogue between Christian theology and sociology as a reflective approach to understanding social change and the human struggles within it. The research method used is a qualitative approach with library research, sourced from relevant and authoritative works on Christian theology and sociology in Indonesian. The analysis is conducted descriptively and interpretively by bringing together theological and sociological perspectives in a dialogue. The results of the study indicate that Christian faith functions as a hermeneutic lens in interpreting social reality critically and meaningfully. The church is understood as a social subject with an ethical responsibility towards humanitarian issues, injustice, and the crisis of the meaning of life. The dialogue between theology and sociology enriches the church's understanding of the signs of the times and encourages reflective and transformative social engagement.
