Abstract

This study aims to describe Muhammadiyah's views on religious tolerance and its role in building and maintaining tolerance in Indonesia. Through a literature study and hermeneutic approach, this research finds that Muhammadiyah views tolerance as a form of universal human brotherhood that is in line with Islamic teachings. Muhammadiyah implements tolerance in various inclusive social, educational, and health programs, including the acceptance of non-Muslim students in its educational institutions. Muhammadiyah's moderate and inclusive approach plays a crucial role in promoting harmony and inter-religious harmony in Indonesia, as well as actively contributing to the nation's intellectual life and general welfare. This study affirms Muhammadiyah's contribution to promoting religious tolerance and provides a tangible example of the application of tolerance values in daily life.

Abstract

Philosophy in the Islamic World by Peter Adamson provides a thorough exploration of the development of philosophy within the Islamic tradition, focusing on contributions from Muslim, Jewish, and Christian thinkers. It begins with the formative period, highlighting the translation of Greek philosophical texts into Arabic and their integration into Islamic thought by early philosophers such as Al-Kindi and Al-Farabi. Key themes include theology, metaphysics, logic, and ethics, alongside early schools of thought like the Muʿtazilites and Ashʿarites. The book then examines the Golden Age of Andalusia, featuring influential figures like Ibn Rushd (Averroes), Ibn Tufayl, and Maimonides. Later sections cover the evolution of philosophy in the Eastern Islamic world, including thinkers like Suhrawardi and Mulla Sadra, and the influence of Islamic thought on European philosophy, especially during the Renaissance.

Abstract

Mahabbah or Divine love is an important aspect of Sufism which emphasizes the spiritual relationship between humans and Allah. Rabi'ah al-Adawiyah, a Sufi woman from the 8th century, developed the concept of sincere mahabbah, namely love that is not based on the desire for reward or fear of punishment. His thinking brought a change from a transactional Sufistic approach to love that is pure and completely directed towards Allah. This research aims to explore the concept of mahabbah according to Rabi'ah al-Adawiyah, its impact on spiritual life, and its relevance in Islamic practice in the modern era. The method used is library research in which the researcher collects sources using a qualitative approach because the data produced is in the form of words or descriptions. The results of the study show that mahabbah according to Rabi'ah emphasizes an attitude of total surrender to Allah without expecting anything in return. This concept remains relevant in forming individual piety that does not only focus on rituals, but also reflects sincerity in worship and in living daily life.

Abstract

This article discusses the application of Islamic Law principles in criminal law reform in Indonesia, focusing on efforts to integrate Islamic norms into the pluralistic national legal system. Using the literature research method, it explores the principles of justice ('adl), balance (tawazun), public good (maslahah), and crime prevention (saddu al- dhara'i) as the foundation for criminal law reform. The results show that despite the challenges in harmonising Islamic law with secular national law, the application of these principles can enrich the Indonesian criminal law system with strong moral and ethical values. In addition, wise and comprehensive integration can optimise the effectiveness of law enforcement and improve the sense of justice in society. This study recommends the need for continuous dialogue between stakeholders to reach consensus and ensure that the resulting laws are inclusive and adaptive to the diversity of Indonesian society. In the long run, criminal law reform that considers the principles of Islamic Law has the potential to strengthen the foundation of national law and improve social welfare.

Abstract

The integration of Sharia criminal law into the national legal system presents significant challenges. Firstly, there are fundamental differences between the principles and values espoused by Sharia criminal law and national criminal law, which may hinder their alignment. Secondly, the juridical and institutional challenges require the revision of laws and regulations, as well as the development of new mechanisms to implement the law, which requires inter-agency coordination and a significant amount of time. Thirdly, the socio-cultural aspect is also a major obstacle, given that the application of Sharia criminal law must be adapted to a society that is diverse in terms of religion, culture and social values. Thus, a thoughtful and inclusive approach, as well as effective communication and education strategies are needed to achieve harmonious integration.

Abstract

This article discusses the conflict and convergence between criminal law and religious law from a criminological perspective. This conflict often occurs due to differences in principles and norms between the two legal systems, which can include differences in sentencing, views on justice, and the protection of human rights. On the other hand, however, convergence can be found when the ethical and moral principles espoused in religious law support the objectives of secular criminal law, such as in crime prevention and the protection of society. Through criminological analysis, this article explores how these conflicts and convergences affect the implementation of the law, public perceptions of justice, and the formulation of more inclusive and effective criminal policies. The article concludes that by carefully considering the differences and similarities between the two legal systems, areas in need of reform or adjustment can be identified to improve the effectiveness of the justice system and promote social justice.

Abstract

The history of the birth of the secular Islamic state of Turkey was a significant transformation in the journey of the Turkish nation, culminating in the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire and the founding of the Republic of Turkey in 1923. This change was spearheaded by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, a visionary leader who was determined to bring Türkiye towards modernization and secularism. After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire due to defeat in World War I, Mustafa Kemal took advantage of the momentum to replace the religion-based monarchy system with a republic that separated religion from state affairs. Mustafa Kemal's reform ideas included various aspects, such as legal reform with the adoption of European-style civil law, the abolition of the caliphate, and the introduction of the Latin alphabet to replace Arabic letters. Additionally, he promoted secular education, women's emancipation, and economic modernization. This policy aims to eliminate the influence of feudalism and religious dogma which are considered to hinder progress. However, this secularization process is not without challenges, both from conservative groups who oppose drastic changes, and from the international community who question Türkiye's future as a modern country. Despite its pros and cons, Mustafa Kemal's reforms became an important foundation for modern Turkish national identity and an inspiration for reforms in other countries. This research aims to examine the historical course of this transition, the impact of Mustafa Kemal's policies, and its implications for the social, political and cultural dynamics of Türkiye to date.

Abstract

This jurnal discusses the process of the development of Islam in Iran began with Caliph Umar bin Khattab in carrying out the expansion of Islamic territories. In 820 AD, small and large dynasties also emerged in various regions of Persia which took turns controlling the Persian territories. For example, the Tahiri Dynasty (820-872 AD) in Khurasan (Iran), the Samanid Dynasty (892-999 AD), Gaznawi (999-1037 AD) and Saljuk (1037-1157 AD). Then the Safavid Dynasty (1501-1732 AD) emerged through the Shiite sect movement. This dynasty made several advances, namely in the fields of politics and military, economy, agriculture, education, and art development. The Iranian Revolution was something monumental in the history of Iran. Of course, the most prominent was the major change in politics, namely the formation of a new government system called the Islamic Republic of Iran. Based on the new and independent political system, Iran then made a big leap in other fields. Including education (science and technology)
