Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile of multiple intelligences and student character in the Faculty of Education at Universitas Negeri Medan based on the Multiple Intelligences Score (MIS). The research employed a descriptive quantitative approach using a survey method involving 25 female students from four study programs: Primary School Teacher Education, Early Childhood Teacher Education, Guidance and Counseling, and Community Education. Data were collected through the MIS test based on Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences and a character questionnaire referring to Thomas Lickona’s character education framework. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in the form of mean scores and percentages. The results indicate that naturalistic intelligence obtained the highest average score, while intrapersonal intelligence showed the lowest score. In terms of character, resilience emerged as the most prominent trait, whereas independence and initiative demonstrated relatively lower scores. The study concludes that students possess diverse multiple intelligences and generally positive character traits; however, balanced learning strategies integrating the development of multiple intelligences and character are still required.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of early childhood science learning through a STEAM-based “Volcano Eruption” experiment using the CIPP evaluation model (Context, Input, Process, and Product). The study was conducted at TK Permata Jaya and focused on evaluating an experimental learning activity implemented for children in Group B. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation, and were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative approach. The evaluation results indicate that the experimental activity was aligned with the early childhood education curriculum and the developmental needs of children. In terms of input, teacher readiness and the availability of learning media adequately supported the implementation of the activity. The learning process was conducted in a structured manner and successfully stimulated children’s interest and enthusiasm, although direct hands-on involvement was still limited. The product evaluation shows positive impacts on children’s cognitive, language, and artistic development. Overall, the STEAM-based “Volcano Eruption” experiment demonstrates good instructional performance as a science learning activity in early childhood education, with the need for further follow-up to enhance safe and guided exploratory experiences for children.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between multiple intelligences and character development among students of the Faculty of Education, Universitas Negeri Medan, in the context of twenty-first-century education. The study employed an observational approach with descriptive statistical analysis to obtain an empirical overview of students’ multiple intelligences profiles and character traits as prospective educators. The participants consisted of 25 students from four study programs, namely Primary School Teacher Education, Guidance and Counseling, Early Childhood Teacher Education, and Community Education. Data were collected through direct observation using a checklist-based instrument covering indicators of multiple intelligences and student character. Multiple intelligence data were analyzed using mean scores and distribution across low, moderate, and high categories, while character data were analyzed through frequency and percentage distributions. The results indicate that most students demonstrate moderate to high levels of multiple intelligences, with naturalistic, musical, and verbal-linguistic intelligences emerging as the most dominant. In terms of character development, resilience and discipline were found to be at a high level, whereas independence and initiative remained relatively low. These findings suggest that students’ multiple intelligence potential has not yet been optimally translated into consistent character-related behaviors. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen learning strategies that systematically integrate multiple intelligences development with character education through contextual, participatory, and reflective approaches in order to foster independent, responsible, and professional future educators.

Abstract

This study aims to describe student characteristics and the multiple intelligences profile of students in the Faculty of Education at Universitas Negeri Medan based on the Multiple Intelligences Score (MIS). The study employed a quantitative method with a descriptive approach. The research subjects consisted of 25 students randomly selected from four study programs, namely Elementary School Teacher Education, Guidance and Counseling, Community Education, and Early Childhood Education. The research instruments included a student characteristics questionnaire and a multiple intelligences assessment based on the Multiple Intelligences Score (MIS), which is used to identify students’ tendencies across various types of intelligence. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, and mean values, and were presented in the form of tables and infographics. The results showed that the majority of students were female and were within the age range of 18–21 years. The multiple intelligences profile revealed variations in intelligence types, with all intelligence categories appearing at different levels of dominance. Although several types of intelligence showed higher mean scores, no single intelligence dominated absolutely. These findings indicate that students’ intelligence profiles are heterogeneous and complementary. In conclusion, mapping student characteristics and multiple intelligences is essential as a basis for developing more adaptive learning strategies. It is recommended that educators and institutions consider the diversity of students’ intelligence profiles in designing instructional practices and academic support services.
