Abstract

The low interest of students (santri) in formal schooling and their strong enthusiasm for madrasah diniyah has become a long-standing pattern at Miftahul Ulum Ranupakis Islamic Boarding School. This phenomenon reflects differing perceptions among students toward the two educational systems they simultaneously experience. This study aims to explore the meaning of formal schooling and madrasah diniyah from the students’ perspective using a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that formal schooling is mainly perceived as a means to obtain academic certification, while madrasah diniyah is regarded as the core of pesantren education that instills religious knowledge, moral values, and religious identity. These results highlight the central role of madrasah diniyah in shaping students’ educational meaning-making, while formal schooling is positioned as a complementary component. The study recommends stronger synergy between formal schooling and madrasah diniyah so that both systems can mutually reinforce the holistic development of students’ character and competencies.

Abstract

Students who work part-time face significant challenges in managing their time, dividing their energy, and balancing academic and work demands. Imbalances in time management often lead to stress, fatigue, and a decline in academic performance. This article aims to analyze the time management strategies of working students through a study literature approach to research published between 2018 and 2024. The literature reviewed includes empirical and theoretical studies on self-regulation, time management, learning productivity, and the role balance of working students. The review results show that working students tend to use various strategies to manage their time, such as daily and weekly planning, prioritizing academic tasks, using time blocking techniques, and adjusting their learning rhythm based on their work schedule. In addition, the role of self-regulation was found to be a major factor that strengthens students' ability to monitor progress, control distractions, and maintain learning motivation despite their workload. The literature also emphasizes the importance of social support, academic flexibility, and the campus's understanding of the needs of working students. This article concludes that the success of working students in maintaining their academic performance is greatly influenced by a combination of time management strategies, self-regulation, and environmental support. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for educational institutions in designing more adaptive policies for working students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the educational dynamics of children living in the Harapan Mandiri Orphanage, Makassar, by highlighting the structural, motivational, and relational challenges that shape their learning processes. The research adopts a qualitative approach using a case study strategy within a constructivist–interpretive paradigm. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving 15 informants, consisting of 10 orphanage children and 5 caregivers. The findings reveal three main issues. First, there is a mismatch between grade placement and children’s academic abilities, which contributes to low self-confidence, learning gaps, and the risk of school dropout. Second, children’s learning motivation is shaped by social stigma and limited academic support, leading some of them to perceive education instrumentally as a means of survival. Third, limited emotional relationships and the weak internalization of educational values within the orphanage result in a mechanical rather than meaningful character-building process. These findings indicate that educational challenges faced by children in orphanages are not merely individual problems but are shaped by the interaction between resource constraints, weak institutional coordination, and limited psychosocial support.

Abstract

This study examines the socio-cultural adaptation process of Muna students in campus life at Universitas Negeri Manado. As migrant students, Muna students arrive with relatively homogeneous cultural backgrounds, strong religious values, and social habits that differ from the multicultural campus environment. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal three main themes. First, the decision to pursue higher education outside their home region is driven by family encouragement, the desire to broaden knowledge, and the motivation to gain cross-cultural experiences. Second, students experience cultural shock during the early stages of university life, particularly related to language differences, communication styles, and patterns of social interaction. However, these challenges are temporary and gradually diminish through increased social engagement. Third, the adaptation process occurs through identity negotiation, in which students adopt selective adaptation strategies by maintaining their cultural values while adjusting to the new environment. The study concludes that migrant student adaptation is a dynamic process that does not lead to full assimilation but rather to the formation of a hybrid identity, enabling students to function socially in a multicultural setting without losing their cultural roots. These findings highlight the importance of institutional support from universities in fostering social integration and cultural diversity on campus.

Abstract

This research qualitatively analyzed the influence of school facilities on the learning quality of students at Galesong Islamic High School. School facilities, such as classrooms, libraries, and recreational areas, are considered to have an important role in creating a conducive learning environment. This study uses a qualitative approach with interviews as the main method to explore the perception of students, teachers, and school staff regarding the availability of facilities and their impact on students’ motivation and academic achievement. Reserch results show that adequate facilities, such as comfortable classrooms and complete libraries, increase students’ learning motivation. However, the limitattions of technological facilities and budgets are the main challenges in managing school facilities. This research recommends improving infrastructure and optimizing facility management to support technology based learning and improve the overall quality of education
