Abstract

This study aims to reveal the influence of seniors' behavior on discipline, learning motivation, and moral character of students at Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School. The main focus of this study is to analyze the interaction patterns of seniority in the daily life of students and their impact on the character development of younger students. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies. Informants consisted of foster guardians, pesantren administrators, and older and younger students. The results showed that the behavior of seniors who tended to be authoritarian and intimidating contributed to a decrease in discipline, learning motivation, and weakened the moral values of younger students. Although there are positive interactions, the frequency is very small compared to repressive interactions. This finding indicates that the culture of seniority that is applied excessively actually hinders the character education process in pesantren. The implications of this study emphasize the need to reformulate pesantren policies related to the pattern of relations between students with a more humanist and educational approach in order to create a coaching climate conducive to the moral and spiritual development of students.

Abstract

This research focuses on the role of strategic leadership in building an innovative culture in Islamic educational institutions, by taking a case study at Pondok Pesantren Al Mashduqiah Kraksaan, Probolinggo Regency. The primary purpose of this research is to identify how strategic leadership practices can encourage the growth of innovation in the learning system and institutional management of pesantren. This research employed a qualitative approach, utilizing a case study design, and data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentary studies. The research informants consisted of pesantren leaders, madrasah heads, teachers, and senior santri. The results showed that strategic leadership in the pesantren environment is reflected in four main aspects: support for educational experiments, commitment to human resource development, exemplary innovative values, and participatory communication strategies. These four aspects form an ecosystem conducive to the emergence of new ideas and the improvement of educational quality. The implications of this study show that in the context of pesantren, visionary, adaptive, and value-based leadership can encourage institutional transformation without leaving the roots of Islamic tradition. Therefore, this strategic leadership model is relevant to be applied more broadly in the development of Islamic education institutions in the contemporary era

Abstract

The 2025 PBB-P2 tax controversy in Pati Regency offers a revealing case of how political discourse functions as both a communicative tool and a strategic instrument during governance crises. This study analyzes three public statements by the Regent—drawn from verified news sources and recordings—using a qualitative critical discourse analysis informed by Searle’s speech act theory and Wodak’s discourse-historical approach. The analysis identifies a rhetorical trajectory from direct confrontation, marked by imperatives and declaratives asserting political strength, through a mitigation phase framed as denial of intent, to a procedural defense invoking constitutional legitimacy. These shifts are contextualized within Javanese politeness norms and the dynamics of digital media amplification. The Regent’s confrontational style clashed with cultural expectations of indirectness, intensifying public backlash, while the apology’s self-justificatory tone limited its restorative effect. The final procedural framing reasserted formal authority but failed to address emotional grievances, particularly in online spaces shaped by the viral initial statement. By linking linguistic strategies to socio-cultural and technological contexts, the study contributes to discourse studies and offers insights for culturally responsive crisis communication in democratic governance.

Abstract

The background of this study is rooted in the pedagogical debate between the traditional IQ-based approach and Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences (MI) theory, which highlights the need for a more inclusive educational paradigm, particularly in the context of Arabic language learning where conventional methods often fail to accommodate learners' diverse intelligence profiles. The purpose of this study concludes that the application of authentic assessment based on Multiple Intelligences (MI) Theory in Arabic language education to improve learning outcomes through an approach that considers the diversity of students' abilities. Using a descriptive-qualitative literature study method based on the theoretical framework of Multiple Intelligences, this research analyzes the literature related to the implementation of MI and its assessment strategies in the context of Arabic language pedagogy. The results reveal that the MI-based approach significantly improves learning outcomes through tailoring materials to students' dominant intelligences, although its implementation faces challenges in a rigid education system. In conclusion, this study confirms that MI theory offers a value framework for creating more engaging and effective Arabic language learning, by recommending the integration of MI principles in existing teaching methods as well as the need for teacher training in the identification of MI profiles and the development of diversified assessment instruments

Abstract

The era of global disruption—marked by climate change, geopolitical tensions, and digital transformation—demands fatwa institutions to formulate responses that are both textually sound and contextually relevant. This study analyzes Nahdlatul Ulama’s (NU) model of ijtihad jamā‘ī (collective ijtihad) as practiced in the 2025 Bahtsul Masail Munas Alim Ulama, focusing on six fatwa decisions issued in 2024. A qualitative descriptive approach with thematic analysis was applied to NU’s official documents, with the primary subject being the official Materi Munas Alim Ulama NU 2025 published by PBNU, which contains six fatwa decisions across the categories of Waqi’iyyah, Maudhu’iyyah, and Qanuniyyah. The findings show that PBNU integrates turāth scholarship, contextual analysis, and maqashid al-shari’ah to produce progressive rulings on issues such as carbon trading, zakat on banknotes, equitable hajj dam distribution, and global conflict. These fatwas function not only as legal responses but also as normative instruments influencing fiscal innovation, environmental policy, transnational worship governance, and broader sharia-based public discourse. Theoretically, this research enriches discourse on collective ijtihad by situating NU’s fatwas within global Islamic legal debates and highlighting their epistemic originality. Practically, it emphasizes PBNU’s growing potential as both a national policy contributor and a credible global reference for maqāṣid-oriented, culturally grounded fatwa authority.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of the import ban on secondhand goods on traders’ perceptions of income and evaluates the policy within the framework of Islamic economics. The issue is relevant as such policies often create disparities, particularly for small-scale traders who depend on imported secondhand goods. Employing a quantitative approach with purposive sampling, data were collected from 53 active traders through questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The analysis was conducted using SPSS 25 with a Simple Linear Regression model. The results reveal a regression equation of Y = 27.624 – 0.275 (Import Ban Policy) + e. The t-test shows that the policy negatively and significantly affects traders’ income (t = –9.962, p < 0.05), while the coefficient of determination (R² = 0.661) indicates that 66.1% of the variance in income perception is explained by the policy. From an Islamic economics perspective, the policy must be assessed through the principles of maqashid sharia, including justice, public interest, social responsibility, and protection of wealth. While the ban may serve public welfare, its execution should ensure fairness to prevent harm to small traders. The study concludes that more balanced and responsive policy measures are required to safeguard economic justice.

Abstract

This research explores the capabilities of YouTube as a digital medium to boost listening comprehension among eleventh-grade learners at MAN 1 Simeulue, a rural Islamic senior high institution in Aceh, Indonesia. Listening is commonly regarded as one of the most difficult competencies in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction, especially in rural settings where authentic exposure and digital resources are scarce. To fill this void, the study utilized a quasi-experimental approach involving 60 students, split evenly into an experimental cohort and a control cohort. The experimental cohort was subjected to YouTube-integrated teaching, while the control cohort engaged in traditional textbook-based listening activities. Data were gathered through pre-tests, post-tests, in-class observations, and instructor notes, then analyzed using paired and independent sample t-tests. The outcomes indicated that both cohorts improved in listening comprehension; nonetheless, the experimental cohort demonstrated significantly greater progress in performance, motivation, and classroom interaction. These findings underscore YouTube’s versatility as an accessible, budget-friendly resource for language teaching. The study contributes empirical insights from a rural Islamic educational context and provides practical recommendations for teachers, curriculum designers, and policymakers aiming to bridge educational gaps through digital learning

Abstract

The relationship between the Qur’an and science has long been a subject of intellectual discourse, especially in areas such as cosmology, embryology, astronomy, geology, and ecology. The purpose of this research is to analyze Qur’anic verses alongside contemporary scientific findings in order to identify dimensions of harmony and potential conflict. The method applied is qualitative with a textual-analytical approach, combining classical tafsīr with modern scientific perspectives. The results indicate that the Qur’an provides theological and teleological insights rather than scientific explanations, while science offers methodological precision in exploring natural phenomena. Apparent contradictions emerge only when verses are interpreted literally or imposed into rigid scientific frameworks. The study concludes that the Qur’an and science can coexist within a paradigm of “sustainable conflict,” where tension is contextual and temporary, while Qur’anic guidance remains universal and timeless.
