Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out how the Nasdem party's political branding strategy through the figure of Anies Baswedan is in increasing electability in the Karawang legislative election in 2024. This research uses Pich and Newman's political branding theory with a descriptive qualitative approach through interviews with the Karawang NasDem Party, the Election Supervisory Board, and political observers. The research results show that all aspects of the NasDem Party's political branding are directed at utilizing the figure of Anies Baswedan, thereby forming clear differentiation and a high level of voter identification. This strong connection has implications for the emergence of the coattail effect phenomenon, namely the alignment of voter preferences from the executive to electoral support for the legislative party. Overall, the NasDem Party's political branding strategy through the figure of Anies Baswedan had a significant influence on the NasDem Party's vote acquisition from 2 seats in the 2019 Election to 7 seats in the Karawang Election in 2024. However, this success really depends on collaboration between the party, the winning team and its legislative candidates. Nasdem needs to strengthen the party's identity and prove sustainable legislative performance to maintain voter loyalty in facing the upcoming elections.

Abstract

This research will examine the relationship between the state and citizens mediated by social media. It examines two social contexts: first, the digital revolution, which has driven the trend of increasing social media use, and second, the high level of interaction on social media, which has created space for the presence of informal third parties. These third parties take the form of "influencers." Facilitated by social media, influencers play the role of intermediaries between the state and citizens. They act as a bridge, often creating an ambivalent relationship between the state and citizens. On the one hand, the presence of influencers has a negative impact on the institutionalization of democracy, while on the other, it has a positive impact. Focusing on the context of the 2024 gubernatorial election in Central Sulawesi, this research will examine the impact of influencer ambivalence on the institutionalization of democracy.

Abstract

Women's representation in Indonesia's legislative bodies remains low despite the implementation of affirmative action regulations in the form of a 30 percent quota for two decades. This study examines how the PDI Perjuangan's women's cadre program contributes to the election of female legislators in the Semarang City Council for the 2024–2029 term. Using a qualitative single case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with ten key informants and analysis of party statutes and bylaws. Findings show that cadre development strengthens the technical capacity, internal legitimacy, and mass base of female cadres, but the gap between the output of cadre development and actual election remains persistent. Three structural factors on the demand side elite patronage practices, the command system, and gender-blind nomination policies limit the conversion of political capacity into electoral election. This study confirms that in gender-oriented party institutions, strengthening the supply side will not result in proportional representation without simultaneous institutional transformation on the demand side.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the election violation prevention strategies implemented by the Bantul Regency Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) in the 2024 Bantul Regent and Deputy Regent Elections based on Alfred D. Chandler's Organizational Strategy Theory (1962). The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach through interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The results show that Bawaslu implemented risk-based strategies through vulnerability mapping, organizational structure strengthening, clear division of tasks, inter-agency coordination, strengthening of participatory oversight, and planned resource allocation. However, the implementation of these strategies still faces obstacles in the form of limited human resources, low community participation, and complex local political dynamics. These findings contribute theoretically to the study of electoral organization strategies and have practical implications for strengthening policies to prevent violations in future regional elections at the local level in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

This study analyzes digital-based public governance practices at the DPMPTSP of Sidenreng Rappang Regency and their contribution to good governance principles. A qualitative approach was employed using interviews, observation, and documentation, with thematic data analysis assisted by NVivo 12 software. The findings indicate that digitalization predominantly strengthens transparency and accountability through the OSS system, websites, social media, and complaint mechanisms. However, public digital participation remains uneven, evidenced by the dominance of face-to-face services (75%) compared to online services (25%). Supporting factors include clear regulations, leadership commitment, internal coordination, and human resource capacity building. Conversely, the main obstacles are the public's low digital literacy, a preference for manual services, and technical constraints in system integration. In conclusion, digitalization at the DPMPTSP has significantly strengthened administrative governance but has not yet fully achieved an inclusive and strategic governance transformation for the wider community.

Abstract

The 2024 Aceh People's Representative Council (DPRA) legislative election was marked by the emergence of nepotism and political dynasty practices that harmed democracy, this was seen in the process of replacing legislative candidates through PAW and the unilateral dismissal of three cadres by the Chairman of the Aceh Party. This study aims to describe the process of replacing legislative candidates (caleg) and unilateral dismissals that occurred within the Aceh Party and analyze the political and social implications arising from these events. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative method based on document study. Data collection was carried out by searching for documents in the form of a recapitulation of the Aceh Party's vote acquisition in Electoral District 5, as well as news and articles related to the replacement of legislative candidates through the PAW mechanism and the unilateral dismissal of legislative candidates. The collected data will then be further analyzed through a qualitative approach with content analysis techniques. Based on the analysis that has been done, it shows that the replacement of Aceh Party legislative candidates in Electoral District 5 indicates a decline in local democracy. The dismissal of three legislative candidates with the most votes to support a seat for the wife of the Aceh Party chairman demonstrates the practice of nepotism and dynastic politics that harm the principle of public representation. The impact of this action also caused a structural crisis within the Aceh Party and affected public participation.

Abstract

Amidst diplomatic isolation resulting from the One China policy and a demographic crisis, Taiwan faces a dual burden that threatens its national resilience. Although Taiwan's labor cooperation has developed rapidly, existing literature remains dominated by macroeconomic analyses, leaving a gap regarding its role as a geopolitical instrument. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Taiwan's foreign policy through a functional approach to labor cooperation with Indonesia. Employing a descriptive qualitative method and Christopher Hill's Foreign Policy Strategy framework, this research examines the conversion of resources into operational capabilities. The findings indicate that through the New Southbound Policy (NSP), Taiwan strategically transforms its labor needs into a functional diplomatic instrument to expand its international presence. Semi-official institutions such as TETO and IETO function effectively as paradiplomatic infrastructures to manage asymmetric interdependence and build legitimacy. In conclusion, labor mobility has been transformed into a non-traditional geopolitical instrument, enabling Taiwan to maintain its relevance in Southeast Asia without relying on formal diplomatic channels.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse and describe the strategy of UPN “Veteran” East Java in realising the appearance of students with national defence character as part of the implementation of the university's vision of "Global Competitiveness with National Defence Character". Student appearance on campus is not only understood as a physical aspect but also as a representation of the values of discipline, compliance with norms, and internalisation of national defence values based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation of informants consisting of student affairs leaders, national defense program managers, lecturers, and students. Data analysis uses an interactive model that includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Framework analysis uses strategic management stages, namely the preparation strategy, implementation strategy, and evaluation strategy. The results of the study indicate that the institution's strategy in realizing the appearance of students with national defense character is carried out through formal regulations (Rector's Regulation on the student code of ethics), integration of national defense values in the curriculum and student activities, continuous coaching and socialization, as well as monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. This strategy fosters consistent, neat, and disciplined student appearance, reflecting the character of national defense. Thus, student appearance becomes part of the institutional strategy to continuously strengthen the campus' national defense identity.

Abstract

This study analyzes public e-participation in the implementation of e-government by the Indonesian Ministry of Trade through the Badan Kebijakan Perdagangan (BKPerdag) website to improve public services. This research applies a descriptive qualitative approach by collecting data through interviews, website observation, and public service documentation. The analysis uses Le Blanc's (2020) e-participation framework, which consists of e-information, e-consultation, and e-decision-making. The findings show that the BKPerdag website has functioned effectively as an entry point for public information and services, particularly through analytical publications, research/interview services, internship services, audience requests, PPID, WhatsApp, HERO, SP4N-LAPOR!, and satisfaction surveys. Public participation is strongest at the e-information and e-consultation levels because users can access information, download documents, ask questions, and provide feedback. However, participation at the e-decision-making level remains limited because there is no clear mechanism showing how public input influences policy decisions. Therefore, the BKPerdag website contributes positively to public service improvement, but it still needs stronger channel integration, better usability, and a more transparent feedback mechanism. Keywords: E-participation, E-government, BKPerdag, Public Service, Government Website
