Abstract

Indonesia is an archipelago country which located in ring of fire zone. It means, the potency of natural disaster is huge in this region. Flood is one of the most common disaster that happen in Indonesia, especially in DKI Jakarta province. Based on data from WHO, flood that happen in February 2007 and hit 80 districts in Jakarta caused traffic chaos and disabling the city. More than 73.000 houses flooded with 10 cm untill 5 m water level. This research aim to doing evaluation towards strategic communication that conducted by the official of Ministry of Communication and Information Technology Republic of Indonesia in terms of utilization of mobile phone campaign for tidal flood disaster management in North Jakarta. This research using descriptive qualitative method with case study approach. This research using Information Processing Theory Mc Guire, Systematic-Heuristic Model, and Ellaboration Likelihood Model. This research was conducted with six informants, consist of two informants that comes from Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, two informants from local people in North Jakarta, one informant from BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) and one informant from BPBD (Regional Board for Disaster Management). The result of this research is strategic communication since planning until evaluating of the campaign is very important to do, to achieve the goals. While conducting mobile phone campaign, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology was doing analysis, set the standards and targets, set the strategy and tactics, time allocation, resources, and also doing evaluation.

Abstract

Tribun Jateng Newspaper has its official website, jateng.tribunnews.com. It is built as the media convergence. On the website, there is a section called Enjoy Semarang. This section should focus on the travel news. As for its management, Enjoy Semarang section could not attract a lot of visitors. Based on the observation, the visitors of this section per month is only around 1,392. The news appearing on the website also covers the news of another region and abroad, and this is not appropriate with the name of the section. Not all published reports were written by reporters. There is some news which is adapted from foreign news websites or copied from websites coming from the same company group. None reporters deal with this section specifically. We have worked with Tribun Jateng to manage this section. The objective of this study is to provide the latest news and information about Central Java culinary, travel, and tips through accessible website. Moreover, we have handled the editorship management in the online media and the policy with regard to the selection of the news. The accumulative total of Tribun Jateng Travel visitors for two months is 13,000, exceeding the minimum target which is 4,329. In a day, the minimum obtained traffic is 900. The total of published articles for two months is 316 news, exceeding the minimum target, 300 articles. The published articles are fulfilled the editorial criteria and proper with the topics. Tribun Jateng Travel section has great potential to compete with hard news section. The quality and quantity of the content must be considered as priority. The increase of the traffic should be followed by the adherence of the rules of journalistic writing.

Abstract

Based on data from The Ministry of Health Republic of Indonesia, there were 20 newborn babies suffered hydrocephalus from every 10.000 birth in Indonesia, Margaretha (Clinical Pshychology and Mental Health, 2014: Vol. 03, No.2). Hydrocephalus is a condition when the main characteristic is the excessive liquid accumulation in brain. This research aim to explain the process of acceptance and nurturing by parents to maintain caring affection to hydrocephalus children. This research used descriptive qualitative approach with interpretive paradigm to interpret and understand attitude. This research used fenomenology approach, Self Acceptance Theory, Symbolic Interactionism Theory, Verbal Nonverbal Theory, and The Emotion of Communication Theory. Research was conducted to three informants, with differentiations, parents who have children that still suffering hydrocephalus, parents who have hydrocephalus children in recovery process/therapy, and parents who have children that already healed from hydrocephalus disease. The result of this research is that not every parents who have hydrocephalus children directly accepted it.When the children just born, parents did not believe in it condition, they wanted to scream, cried (informant III), did not want to nurture the children well, and ignored the children without gave any attention (informant I). Nevertheless, many peoples such as family and neighbour gave support to them and made parents surely strong enough to accept the condition of the children who sick and can looked after their children as well. Communication activities that be done by parents towards hydrocephalus children through verbal and nonverbal communication is very important and be needed in nurturing children with hydrocephalus disease, such as caress, carry, kiss, walking around, using affection words, beside doing spiritual communication like reading Al Qur’an and reading shalawat that will cure hydrocephalus children. Those kind of activities make the children feel comfort and joy when be given affection by their parents. That was nonmedical therapy from parents to heal their children who suffer hydrocephalus beside from medical treatment. This research also found that among three childrens who suffer hydrocephalus, one of them can totally healed. Beside medical treatment, parents nurturing with fully affection also be needed.

Abstract

This research was started from beautiful meaning that remains a problem for women and still debated to this day. Rapid technological development, until the advent of vlog makes the concept of beauty changes. One of vlogger that discusses about beauty on her YouTube account is Rachel Goddard. She presents vlog about makeup tutorials, tips on caring for the body and face, also reviews on beauty products through her youtube account. The aim of this research is to know the beauty representation based on Semiotic analysis and also to dismantle the myth of what was built by Rachel Goddard. In analyzing vlog about beauty tutorials titled "Learning Makeup For Beginners" in the Rachel Goddard YouTube account, the writer using semiotic researchers from Roland Barthes. The first conclusion of this research is beauty representation still refer to the same criteria, but with the development of technology, beauty criteria has expanded. Beauty criteria that have expanded is thick and tidy eyebrows; big and colorful eyelids; curly, thick, and long eyelashes; eyes that look big; under eye that look bright; flawless, smooth, and perfect face; rosy cheeks; and colored lip in order not to look pale. The second conclusion of this research is beauty criteria still oriented to the western culture. This is evidenced by the figure of Rachel Goddard who became a model in the vlog also many makeup products and foreign language vocabulary that she used.

Abstract

The condition in which some athletes still choose to establish an intimate relationship is because it is a source of motivation despite the intimate relationship among fellow athletes is a not liked by any coach in any sport. The background of the research is analyzing the matter which potentially diverts the focus of attention when practicing, also possibilities of decreasing the spirit in exercise. The purpose of this research is to describe the communication process in the intimate relationship of fellow athletes as well as avoiding a conflict with the coach to build motivation in order to be a champion. The purpose of the research is done using the Social Penetration Theory, Theory of Attribution, and Theory of personality. This qualitative descriptive research using the method of Phenomenology. The research site is in Semarang, informants were chosen by purposive methods against 3 pairs of national athletes, which seeks to avoid conflict with their coach while making the intimate relationship, primarily with the who considered the intimate relationship as a barrier to an achievement. The results showed that the communication process of fellow athletes through several stages in accordance with the Social Penetration Theory. In the first stage (early stage or orientation) this communication process is done through direct meetings with four informants while the two other informants through social media, where honesty and sharing are still common as exchanging information about each personality, habits, and things related to professions in their sport. In the second phase (approach) the proximity arises because of the high-intensity communication (meeting each day, chatting, brainstorming). The third phase (the familiar relationship or a romantic relationship) this stage is characterized by an increase in the personal activities like exercise together, hanging out together, to even motivate towards each other match in their own way. The final stage (stable exchange) where the informant underlying their relationship with commitment and faith in a relationship to establish bonding and dependency between them. While the efforts from the athletes to avoid a conflict with the coach is using the win-win solution in which the athletes still weaves intimate relationship but still showed their achievements even improving their performance.Coaches need to build good communication scheme with the athletes to make the athletes dare to show their range of thoughts and feelings aiming at the development of individual capabilities and achievements.

Abstract

With the development of technology, the public are increasingly choosing online media as the first reference when need any information. Every year the number of Internet users in Indonesia is always increase, reported by the WeAreSocial, number of active Internet users in Indonesia in 2016 amounted to 88.1 million. This makes online marketing opportunities in the future is very large and open wide. Tribun Jateng is one of mass media that converge to online media. We, as the team of the research study are working with the Tribun Jateng to manage one of its sections that focus on travel, is Enjoy Semarang. This sections very potential as the reference person reading the news and advertising medium, but because it is still new, it takes strategy and promotion to introduce this travel sections to the wider community. As a marketing communications of the research study are working with the Tribun Jateng, i conducted a strategy to raise awareness of the new channels through the off air events and also quiz on instagram and seek revenue through advertisements advertorials and social media advertising.

Abstract

Rebranding, an attempt or enterprise which is undertaken by the company or institutions to completely change or renew an existing brand to make it better. Rebranding is not just a logo change, but also includes; the change of messages, change of how aprroaching consumers, providing new services, or even changes about what has promised to the consumers. One of the reasons why Indosat conducted a rebranding due to the change of management / strategy occurs in the company, such as changes in leadership or merger; or it can be purchased of a company through the other hand, became one of the strong reason to conduct a rebranding. Therefore, the aim of this study is to describe how to think about stakeholders responding the rebranding conducted by Indosat, especially the external stakeholders. All forms of information and new services, obtained by the community during the Indosat’s rebranding process, those are divided into several stakeholders experienced the difference in the admission process and ways of thinking about rebranding information. According to Elaboration Likehood Models related with the persuasive message. Indosat’s rebranding information was received by the stakeholders as a new message. In accordance with the Elaboration Likehood Models’s stages, the results of this study indicate that Indosat’s rebrandring message information is processed only at the stage “ability to process” by the most of the stakeholders. They choose to take the peripherals path as low motivation of the persuasive message, because they consider the communication needs, include in the low-involvement. The stakeholders consider that communication is an important requirement, but not considered as a necessity that requires high attention and involvement in making a purchasing decision. The rest, the other stakeholders also appreciate that Indosat’s decision is appropriate and successful, seen from the mutual cooperation that they can build in their attempt for being the best provider in Indonesia.

Abstract

Currently the communication style leaders in Indonesia in the spotlight to show the image of the political communicator. The style of political communication is a hallmark of which is owned by the communicator. In any government, political communication style of political communicator affect relationships within the government's performance. In this case Ganjar as governor has its own style of political communication in communicating with the parliament of Central Java. The problem in this research is the emergence of the problems that occur through Ganjar political communication style in communicating with the local parliament in the highlight of the media, so that the public feel there is turmoil in local government. This research method using a qualitative approach with case study method. The case study uses several methods to collect data that interviews and observations and secondary data supporting examine the case in detail. Researchers conducted interviews with six members of parliament representative of the five commissions and five different fractions. Interviews were conducted in-depth interviews and results in reduction as well as in categorizing. After the primary data collected then the contents of the data that has been categorized discussed and analyzed. In the analysis of these data, the researchers classify into two aspects that have an influence on the style of political communication Ganjar, the technical aspects are divided into verbal and nonverbal communication as well as the substantive aspects were also divided into two political messages and communication links and Ganjar Parliament The results of the analysis revealed that the style of political communication Ganjar do have a tendency for low-style context. As well as that impede communication ganjar and Parliament is an aggressive style and bombastic style.

Abstract

At the Jakarta governor election in 2017, racial issues was predicted to be a topic that will following Basuki Tjahaja Purnama in his candidacy for governor. That issue can not be separated from the role of the mass media to influence public opinion. Due to the influence, media are required to always objective in conveying information to the public. This research is descriptive research with quantitative content analysis method. The purpose of this study was to determine the tendency of the news in two national newspapers, namely, Kompas and Republika regarding nomination Tjahaja Basuki Purnama as Jakarta governor in the elections in 2017. This can be seen in the presentation of news, news direction, and factuality balance in their news reporting. Researchers make coding sheet from two coders the results are used to calculate reliability. Judging from the content categories of news, from the results of the analysis unit, the tendency of news about the nomination Basuki Purnama Tjahaja in Kompas daily more neutral, whereas the negative trend in the Republika daily news about Tjahaja Basuki Purnama. By results of different test by using chi square formula no significant difference between both media, it is because the number of samples studied is not too much and both these media has the same characteristics.
