Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of online gambling advertisement exposure on social media, the level of parental supervision, and the intensity of peer group communication on the interest in online gambling. This research is motivated by the increasing interest in online gambling in Indonesia since the pandemic, accompanied by rising transaction values year after year. Factors such as the prevalence of online gambling ads on social media, lack of parental supervision, and peer influence are considered the main triggers. The research method used is a quantitative approach with a positivistic paradigm. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to respondents who met the research criteria. The results show that exposure to online gambling advertisements on social media has a significant influence on the interest in online gambling. The level of parental supervision also has an effect, although not as strong as the influence of advertisements. The intensity of peer group communication has a significant impact, indicating that peer influence is an important factor in the interest in online gambling. This research is expected to provide new insights for future studies in the field of communication and help raise public awareness about the dangers of online gambling and the importance of parental supervision and good communication with children.

Abstract

Media convergence is interpreted as the combination of various information and communication technology services, along with increasing digitalization making it possible for people to access various types of media content, making media organizations produce content that can be enjoyed across media. On the other hand, internet users continue to increase and people's attention to conventional media, especially radio, has decreased, which has caused the radio industry to begin to decline. A strategy is needed for radio to still be heard, namely by carrying out media convergence. This research aims to find out how the media convergence process strategy is carried out by Radio Republik Indonesia Semarang to maintain its existence in the digital era. The theory used in this research is Media Convergence Theory, while the method used is qualitative research using a case study approach, by conducting interviews and observations in the RRI Semarang environment who are involved and related to the process of implementing media convergence. The results of this research indicate that RRI Semarang views media convergence as quite important in its position as a Public Broadcasting Institution and reference media which needs to anticipate changes in information consumption patterns in society. This is done through various owned platforms such as RRI Digital, the RRI.co.id page, the RRI NET channel, social media for each program and news, as well as the YouTube channel. Planning is carried out in the broadcast and news sector, guided by the LPP RRI Broadcast Guidelines Book and the Reporting Style Book. The technical convergence strategy refers to understanding the direction of convergence, positioning as a media verifier, following the flow of convergence, strengthening the technical and multimedia sectors, adapting content, and building interactivity. The promotional strategy refers to the use of soft-selling through promotions on personal accounts and hard-selling through on-air and off-air promotions. This has implications for analytical and quality achievements, although it still has shortcomings.

Abstract

This study examines audience reception of soft selling content in the form of parody for the local fashion brand Tenue de Attire on TikTok. Although intended as promotional content, the audience primarily perceives it as parody, as reflected in their comments. Using qualitative methods and reception analysis based on Stuart Hall's Theory of Reception and Peirce's Semiotics, the research involves in-depth interviews with four male TikTok users. Of the four respondents, two are in the Negotiated Position, initially seeing the content as a parody but recognizing elements of soft selling. One is in the Dominant Position, fully interpreting the content as entertaining parody, while one is in the Opposition Position, viewing it entirely as a soft selling marketing strategy. The study concludes that audience interpretation is influenced by their background and preferences

Abstract

This research studies the crisis communication strategies that PT Jasa Marga Persero used during the time of crisis regarding MBZ Elevated Toll Road. Jasa Marga was faced with threats which are very harmful for their reputation because the issue is related to their infrastructure quality, technical failures, and corruption allegations. These crises put Jasa Marga in a high-responsibility context. This research uses a qualitative content analysis approach, analyzing crisis-related communications derived from official press releases and credible Indonesian online news platforms. Guiding the research approach, this research analyzed its data using Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) and Image Restoration Theory (IRT), supported by a coding matrix and meaning-making framework to interpret communication patterns, rhetorical strategies, and attribution of responsibility. Jasa Marga used a combination of SCCT, and IRT strategies in their crisis communication, depending on the nature of the crisis. Additionally, communication patterns reveal a tendency to shift blame, minimize severity, and emphasize institutional credibility through reminders of good governance practices. Jasa Marga also shows some limitations in maintaining a long-term trust. This is because there was an inconsistency in transparent communication and stakeholder engagement. This study contributes to the understanding of crisis communication in state-owned enterprises, particularly in infrastructure-related controversies in a digital public environment.

Abstract

Adolescence is a crucial stage of development characterized by complex physical, psychological, and social changes. During this period, adolescents are expected to begin behaving more maturely; however, they often do not possess full autonomy over themselves. This condition makes adolescents vulnerable to unequal power relations and social discrimination, one of which appears through negative stereotypes portraying them as problematic, emotional, rebellious, and difficult to manage. Such perceptions are further reinforced through media representations, including films and television series. One series that explores adolescent issues is Adolescence (2025), a British psychological crime series that portrays adolescent characters through various social and emotional conflicts. Therefore, this study aims to examine how adolescents are represented in the series Adolescence (2025). This study employs a qualitative approach using John Fiske’s semiotic analysis method, which consists of three levels of coding: the level of reality, the level of representation, and the level of ideology. The findings reveal that adolescents are portrayed as unequal through various aspects, including behavioral dominance, camera techniques, camera angles, lighting, narrative, and other cinematic elements. Adolescents are also negatively represented as emotional, difficult to control, withdrawn, and vulnerable to violent behavior. Furthermore, adolescents are depicted as a social group that is controlled and excessively regulated, as reflected in the dominance of adult authority across various aspects of adolescent life. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that Adolescence (2025) tends to strongly emphasize the negative aspects of adolescence. The series has the potential to normalize stereotypes that problematic behavior is an inherent characteristic of adolescents. However, the series also offers criticism of the overly simplistic ways society and adults perceive adolescents.
