Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of online gambling advertisement exposure on social media, the level of parental supervision, and the intensity of peer group communication on the interest in online gambling. This research is motivated by the increasing interest in online gambling in Indonesia since the pandemic, accompanied by rising transaction values year after year. Factors such as the prevalence of online gambling ads on social media, lack of parental supervision, and peer influence are considered the main triggers. The research method used is a quantitative approach with a positivistic paradigm. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to respondents who met the research criteria. The results show that exposure to online gambling advertisements on social media has a significant influence on the interest in online gambling. The level of parental supervision also has an effect, although not as strong as the influence of advertisements. The intensity of peer group communication has a significant impact, indicating that peer influence is an important factor in the interest in online gambling. This research is expected to provide new insights for future studies in the field of communication and help raise public awareness about the dangers of online gambling and the importance of parental supervision and good communication with children.

Abstract

Media convergence is interpreted as the combination of various information and communication technology services, along with increasing digitalization making it possible for people to access various types of media content, making media organizations produce content that can be enjoyed across media. On the other hand, internet users continue to increase and people's attention to conventional media, especially radio, has decreased, which has caused the radio industry to begin to decline. A strategy is needed for radio to still be heard, namely by carrying out media convergence. This research aims to find out how the media convergence process strategy is carried out by Radio Republik Indonesia Semarang to maintain its existence in the digital era. The theory used in this research is Media Convergence Theory, while the method used is qualitative research using a case study approach, by conducting interviews and observations in the RRI Semarang environment who are involved and related to the process of implementing media convergence. The results of this research indicate that RRI Semarang views media convergence as quite important in its position as a Public Broadcasting Institution and reference media which needs to anticipate changes in information consumption patterns in society. This is done through various owned platforms such as RRI Digital, the RRI.co.id page, the RRI NET channel, social media for each program and news, as well as the YouTube channel. Planning is carried out in the broadcast and news sector, guided by the LPP RRI Broadcast Guidelines Book and the Reporting Style Book. The technical convergence strategy refers to understanding the direction of convergence, positioning as a media verifier, following the flow of convergence, strengthening the technical and multimedia sectors, adapting content, and building interactivity. The promotional strategy refers to the use of soft-selling through promotions on personal accounts and hard-selling through on-air and off-air promotions. This has implications for analytical and quality achievements, although it still has shortcomings.

Abstract

This study examines audience reception of soft selling content in the form of parody for the local fashion brand Tenue de Attire on TikTok. Although intended as promotional content, the audience primarily perceives it as parody, as reflected in their comments. Using qualitative methods and reception analysis based on Stuart Hall's Theory of Reception and Peirce's Semiotics, the research involves in-depth interviews with four male TikTok users. Of the four respondents, two are in the Negotiated Position, initially seeing the content as a parody but recognizing elements of soft selling. One is in the Dominant Position, fully interpreting the content as entertaining parody, while one is in the Opposition Position, viewing it entirely as a soft selling marketing strategy. The study concludes that audience interpretation is influenced by their background and preferences

Abstract

This research studies the crisis communication strategies that PT Jasa Marga Persero used during the time of crisis regarding MBZ Elevated Toll Road. Jasa Marga was faced with threats which are very harmful for their reputation because the issue is related to their infrastructure quality, technical failures, and corruption allegations. These crises put Jasa Marga in a high-responsibility context. This research uses a qualitative content analysis approach, analyzing crisis-related communications derived from official press releases and credible Indonesian online news platforms. Guiding the research approach, this research analyzed its data using Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) and Image Restoration Theory (IRT), supported by a coding matrix and meaning-making framework to interpret communication patterns, rhetorical strategies, and attribution of responsibility. Jasa Marga used a combination of SCCT, and IRT strategies in their crisis communication, depending on the nature of the crisis. Additionally, communication patterns reveal a tendency to shift blame, minimize severity, and emphasize institutional credibility through reminders of good governance practices. Jasa Marga also shows some limitations in maintaining a long-term trust. This is because there was an inconsistency in transparent communication and stakeholder engagement. This study contributes to the understanding of crisis communication in state-owned enterprises, particularly in infrastructure-related controversies in a digital public environment.

Abstract

Adolescence is a crucial stage of development characterized by complex physical, psychological, and social changes. During this period, adolescents are expected to begin behaving more maturely; however, they often do not possess full autonomy over themselves. This condition makes adolescents vulnerable to unequal power relations and social discrimination, one of which appears through negative stereotypes portraying them as problematic, emotional, rebellious, and difficult to manage. Such perceptions are further reinforced through media representations, including films and television series. One series that explores adolescent issues is Adolescence (2025), a British psychological crime series that portrays adolescent characters through various social and emotional conflicts. Therefore, this study aims to examine how adolescents are represented in the series Adolescence (2025). This study employs a qualitative approach using John Fiske’s semiotic analysis method, which consists of three levels of coding: the level of reality, the level of representation, and the level of ideology. The findings reveal that adolescents are portrayed as unequal through various aspects, including behavioral dominance, camera techniques, camera angles, lighting, narrative, and other cinematic elements. Adolescents are also negatively represented as emotional, difficult to control, withdrawn, and vulnerable to violent behavior. Furthermore, adolescents are depicted as a social group that is controlled and excessively regulated, as reflected in the dominance of adult authority across various aspects of adolescent life. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that Adolescence (2025) tends to strongly emphasize the negative aspects of adolescence. The series has the potential to normalize stereotypes that problematic behavior is an inherent characteristic of adolescents. However, the series also offers criticism of the overly simplistic ways society and adults perceive adolescents.

Abstract

The development of online loan advertisements on digital platforms makes the background in this study, especially YouTube which increasingly reaches the younger generation, namely Generation Z as active internet users. The interest in applying for online loans in Generation Z is allegedly influenced by the high intensity of advertising exposure, the quality of advertising messages, and the attractiveness of advertisements. This study aims to analyze the influence of online loan advertising exposure on YouTube, the quality of advertising messages, and the attractiveness of advertisements on interest in applying for online loans in Generation Z. This study uses a quantitative method with a survey approach. Data was obtained through the distribution of questionnaires to respondents with Generation Z criteria who had seen online loan ads on YouTube. To analyze the relationship between independent variables with bounds using multiple linear regression analysis. Based on the results of the study, between exposure to online loan ads on YouTube, the quality of the ad message, and the attractiveness of the advertisement have a positive and significant effect on the interest in applying for online loans in Generation Z, both simultaneously and partially. The regression coefficient value of the variable exposure to advertising is 0.445 with a significance level of 0.000, the quality of the ad message is 0.441 with a significance level of 0.000, and the attractiveness of the advertisement is 0.391 with a significance level of 0.000. In addition, the R Square value of 0.821 represents the three independent variables that are able to show an influence on the interest in applying for an online loan by 82.1%, while the remaining 17.9% is influenced by other variables outside the study. These findings show that the higher the intensity of ad exposure, the better the quality of the ad message, and the more attractive the ads displayed on YouTube, the higher the interest of Generation Z in applying for online loans.

Abstract

The persistence of unmet healthcare service needs in Indonesia underscores the importance of telemedicine as an alternative mode of healthcare delivery. Adoption gap shown through generally positive public sentiment towards telemedicine but relatively low actual usage rates. This study examines the acceptance of telemedicine services using the Technology Acceptance Model 2 (TAM2). A quantitative research design was employed, online survey conducted of 248 respondents who had prior experience using telemedicine applications in Indonesia. Purposive sampling was applied, and the data analyzed using Partial Least Squares (PLS). It was found that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and social influence significantly affect users’ intention to use telemedicine, which in turn influences actual usage behavior. This study highlights the role of social influence as societal pressure in shaping telemedicine acceptance which an aspect that remains underexplored in the Indonesian literature.

Abstract

The increasing use of digital media in Indonesia as a primary source of health information encourages greater exposure to content about healthy lifestyles and balanced nutrition. People are increasingly actively seeking and consuming information related to healthy diets, but the increasing prevalence of obesity indicates a gap between information exposure and actual behavior in adopting a healthy lifestyle. This study aims to analyze the influence of information exposure in digital media on attitudes, as well as the influence of attitudes, subjective norms, and behavioral control on the intention to adopt a healthy diet in adults in Indonesia. In addition, this study also examines the role of attitude as a mediating variable between information exposure and the intention to adopt a healthy diet. The theory used in this study is the Theory of Planned Behavior. This study uses a quantitative approach with a non-probability sampling technique. Hypothesis testing is carried out using Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM) analysis. The results of the study showed that exposure to information in digital media had a very significant effect on attitudes, with path coefficients of 0.414, P-values of 0.000 (<0.001), T-statistics of 6.674 (>1.96), and had a medium effect (f² = 0.207). Furthermore, attitudes had a very significant effect on the intention to do a healthy diet, with path coefficients of 0.409, P-values of 0.000 (<0.001), T-statistics of 5.372 (>1.96), and had a medium effect (f² = 0.245). Subjective norms had a significant effect on the intention to do a healthy diet, with path coefficients of 0.126, P-values of 0.014 (<0.05), T-statistics of 2.452 (>1.96), and had a small effect (f² = 0.030). Behavioral control has a very significant effect on the intention to do a healthy diet, with path coefficients of 0.359, P-values of 0.000 (<0.001), T- statistics of 5.787 (>1.96), and has a medium effect (f² = 0.191). In addition, the results of the study also show that attitudes significantly mediate the relationship between exposure to information in digital media and the intention to do a healthy diet with path coefficients of 0.169, P-values of 0.000 (<0.001) and T-statistics of 4.063 (>1.96). The coefficient of determination (R Square) shows that information exposure explains 17.1% of the variance in attitudes (R² = 0.171), while attitudes, subjective norms, and behavioral control simultaneously explain 49.7% of the variance in the intention to do a healthy diet (R² = 0.497). Therefore, all hypotheses in this study are accepted and the research findings are in line with the theory used, where behavioral intentions are predicted by attitudes, subjective norms, and behavioral control, and can be strengthened by additional predictors in the form of exposure to information in digital media.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the portrayal of family caregiving in How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies (2024) movie and to unveil the myths within the media text. Theoretically, this research applies Stuart Hall’s Theory of Representation, supported by the Ethic of Care framework, and utilizing Roland Barthes’ Semiotic analysis as its methodological approach. The primary findings indicate that How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies (2024) movie represents family caregiving as a relational practice grounded in interpersonal relationships and emotional proximity between caregiver and care-receiver. Furthermore, this study reveals the naturalization of family caregiving as an inherently female domain, exemplified through the character of M, who must navigate personal negotiations to engage in intensive caregiving practice. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies (2024) portrays family caregiving as a relational and affective practice, while simultaneously reinforcing the notion of family caregiving as a natural domain of femininity.

Abstract

This study analyzes the differences in news framing regarding the rewriting of Indonesian history in two national online media outlets, Kompas.com and AntaraNews.com, during the period of May to September 2025. Employing a qualitative approach within a constructivist paradigm, this research applies Robert Entman's framing analysis model, which encompasses four key elements: define problems, diagnose causes, make moral judgement, and treatment recommendation. Data were collected from 20 purposively selected news articles from both media outlets and analyzed in depth to identify patterns of meaning construction. The findings reveal that Kompas.com underwent a framing shift from informative to critical, emphasizing potential bias, the politicization of historical narratives, and the risk of obscuring human rights violations, while also presenting perspectives from academics and civil society as counterweights. In contrast, AntaraNews.com consistently framed the issue as a legitimate national agenda and state policy, positioning the government as the primary actor and portraying public controversy as a misunderstanding resolvable through institutional mechanisms. These differences affirm that media do not operate neutrally but actively construct social reality and shape public understanding of the relationship between history, power, and justice.
