Abstract

Spinal anesthesia is widely used in surgery, but it can still cause pain and postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). Smoking is known to affect pain responses and the nausea center through neurophysiological mechanisms. This study aims to analyze the relationship between smoking habits and the incidence of nausea, vomiting, and pain levels in postoperative patients with spinal anesthesia at Permata Medika Hospital, Semarang. The study used a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach in 70 male respondents. Smoking habits were measured using the GATS, nausea and vomiting using the RINVR, and pain using the NRS. Analysis using the Spearman's rho test showed a significant relationship between smoking habits and nausea and vomiting (p < 0.05) with a negative direction, and a significant relationship between smoking habits and pain levels (p = 0.001; r = 0.390) with a positive direction. It was concluded that smoking habits are associated with nausea, vomiting, and pain levels after spinal anesthesia surgery.

Abstract

The number of traffic accidents in Indonesia is still very high, where every year almost 1.3 million people die due to these accidents, and millions of others are injured. Of these accident victims, approximately 30% are children and adolescents, who are the nation's future generation. More than 30% of traffic accident victims are under 25 years old. Traffic accidents are the most dangerous cause of death for people aged 15-29 years. This study aims to determine the effect of E-Comic-based education on the level of knowledge of students at SMAN 1 Pekanbaru City. This type of research is quantitative using a design (Quasy Experiment) with a Pre-test Post-test Nonequivalent Control Group Design approach. This study was conducted at SMAN 1 Pekanbaru City with a total of 40 respondents who were conducted for 1 day. The results of this study obtained a difference in the average knowledge score in the intervention group of 21.65 and a difference in the control group of 12.45. Although both experienced an increase, the average knowledge score in the intervention group was higher than the control group, which means that e-comic-based education is more effective in increasing knowledge than education that only provides PowerPoint. The results of the t-dependent statistical test showed a p-value of 0.000 for the intervention group and the control group, which means a p-value <0.05, so the hypothesis H0 is rejected, which means that e-comics are effective in increasing knowledge about first aid for traffic accident victims at SMAN 1 Pekanbaru City. The results of the t-independent sample t-test showed a p value of 0.003 which means Sig. (2-tailed) <0.05, so the hypothesis H0 was rejected, which means there was a significant difference between the intervention group and the control group. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that e-comic-based education is effective in increasing students' knowledge about first aid for traffic accident victims. Abstract

Farmers represent a professional group frequently exposed to workplace emergencies. During agricultural activities, inhalation of dust and fine particles can lead to sudden airway obstruction, severely compromising respiratory function. To prevent fatal outcomes, farmers require structured knowledge and practical skills in immediate response, including basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation and choking management. This study aimed to analyze the effect of basic life support training on improving farmers’ competence in handling choking incidents caused by foreign body obstruction. A pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach was employed. The sample comprised 30 participants, calculated using the Slovin formula and selected through purposive sampling. Pre- and post-intervention assessments revealed significant improvements in participants’ ability to manage choking emergencies. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test confirmed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). These findings demonstrate that structured training effectively enhances first-aid capabilities for respiratory emergencies. Integrating simulation-based practice into community programs is recommended to strengthen response readiness and improve overall safety awareness among agricultural workers. Abstract

First-year students are at risk of experiencing psychological disturbances, such as anxiety and stress, due to the adaptation process to a new environment, including nursing students. The butterfly hug is a simple self-administered technique that has the potential to effectively reduce anxiety. Roy’s Adaptation Model explains that individuals are adaptive systems that continuously interact with their environment through coping mechanisms. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the butterfly hug in reducing anxiety among first-year nursing students from an adaptation theory perspective. This study employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 50 first-year nursing students aged 18–20 years who had experienced anxiety, selected through purposive sampling. The independent variable was the butterfly hug intervention, administered six times over two weeks, while the dependent variable was the level of anxiety. Data were collected using the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale questionnaire. Statistical analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test with a 95% significance level. The results showed that the majority of students experienced mild anxiety prior to the intervention, whereas most reported no anxiety after the intervention. A significant reduction in anxiety levels was observed following the butterfly hug intervention (p=0.000). In conclusion, the butterfly hug is effective in reducing anxiety among first-year nursing students. This intervention functions as a cognator coping mechanism within the adaptation process, involving self-suggestion that enhances positive emotions and contributes to anxiety reduction.
