Abstract

Every human has aspirations hopes, and purposes to reach in their lives. Sometimes people break the norm, ethic, rule, and law to reach their ambition. The purpose of this study is to analyze Carlo Ventresca in Dan Brown’s Angels&Demons in his efforts to reach his ambition to become a pope. His ambition leads to destruction to other people and also for himself. This study uses library research and psychological approach in the analysis of this novel. Carlo Ventresca has conflicts within himself and against other people. His efforts to reach his ambition include breaking the law and moral ethics. He even kills. However he fails to reach his ambition and finally commits suicide. His ambition leads to destruction to people around him, the church, the public and even himself. He experiences moral, mental, and physical destructions. Unrestrained ambition by the bad ways will result the failure and leads to destruction.

Abstract

Remaja Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang dan Bekasi yang menggunakan bahasa Indonesia sebagai bahasa pertama mereka untuk percakapan sehari-hari, memodifikasi bahasa Indonesia menjadi bahasa yang dikenal dengan sebutan bahasa gaul. Bentuk dan variasi bahasa gaul ini bermacam-macam, salah satunya adalah bahasa Indonesia yang mengalami proses metatesis. Metatesis adalah proses fonologis dimana penutur mengubah posisi bunyi dalam sebuah kata. Dalam hal ini, penulis tertarik untuk menganalisis fenomena metatesis yang terjadi pada bahasa Indonesia yang digunakan oleh remaja JABOTABEK.Tujuan penulisan skripsi ini tidak hanya sekedar untuk mengetahui tipe-tipe metatesis dan proses fonologi yang terjadi pada bahasa gaul, namun juga untuk mengetahui alasan remaja-remaja JABOTABEK menggunakan variasi bahasa ini dalam berkomunikasi.Data yang digunakan merupakan kata yang mengalami proses metatesis. Metode pengambilan data menggunakan purposive sampling dan teori Sudaryanto metode simak yaitu observasi dan cakap.Hasil analisa menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 2 tipe metatesis yang ditemukan dalam bahasa gaul yaitu metatesis dengan membalikkan seluruh bunyi yang ada dalam satu kata yaitu dari belakang ke depan dan metatesis yang hanya memindahkan beberapa bunyi saja. Adapun prediksi sistem bahasa tentang bagaimana seseorang membentuk kata baru dengan cara metatesis. Proses fonologis yang muncul setelah kata-kata dalam bahasa Indonesia tersebut mengalami proses metatesis adalah proses menghilangan konsonan, menambahan konsonan, penghilangan bunyi vokal, penurunan bunyi vokal, dan netralisasi. Alasan remaja JABOTABEK menggunakan kata-kata metatesis ini adalah karena mereka tinggal di lingkungan yang juga menggunakan kata-kata tersebut dalam berkomunikasi, membuat suatu kode agar orang lain yang tidak termasuk dalam remaja JABOTABEK tidak mengerti apa yang mereka katakan dan untuk meningkatkan derajat sosial mereka menjadi remaja yang gaul.

Abstract

Magazine is one kind of printed media that is published periodically. Magazine has a lot of types based on its main contain and the target of reader. It can be divided as news magazine, teen’s magazine, male’s magazine and female’s magazine. Then, male’s and female’s magazines can be specified into fashion magazine. The articles in fashion magazine contain the style of clothes, shoes, bags, and also the interest scent of perfume. Male’s magazine and female’s magazine have the different submission in representing the identity between male and female. The purpose of this research explains the process to deliver the information about male’s and female’s identities in explicit or implicit way. The writer analyzes the submission of information in Da Man, Details, and Esquire magazines for describing the identity of male. Then, the writer uses Nylon, Vogue, Glamour, and Cosmopolitan magazines to identify the identity of female. The difference of language used and the submission of information between male and female are phenomena of language that are analyzed through the writer’s point of view by using some theories. The writer uses descriptive qualitative perspectives to determine the language usage between male and female in fashion magazines. The theory of explicature and implicature are used by the writer to analyze the submission of information in male’s and female’s articles through the objects of clothes, perfumes, and shoes. In the method of collecting data, the writer applies documentation method and note taking technique. From the data analysis, the writer concludes that the components of colors do not affect the appearance of male’s identity because the colors describe neutral colors. On the other side, female has close relation with the component of colors because female has her own colors, such as pink, gold, and fuchsia to represent the identity of female as a feminine person. Then, the submission of meaning in representing male’s and female’s identity can be categorized in two ways, such as in explicit or implicit way. Both of ways have the important role to determine the influence characteristics between male and female. The kind of implicature is often used to represent the identity of male and female because the information is presented indirectly and the writer should find the implied meaning in the sentence. Abstract

Book review of The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks is to understand the strengths and weaknesses of The Guardian novel. This analysis uses intrinsic aspects which are theme, character, and setting as analysis focus. The Guardian tells about a journey to find a true love by the main character, Julie Barenson. Although The Guardian has some weaknesses, the strengths of this novel make it still recommended to be read.

Abstract

This thesis is entitled “ Motivasi Tokoh Eliza dalam Memperjuangkan Hak dan Kebebasan dari Perbudakan dalam Novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin karya Harriet Becheer Stowe”. The aims of this thesis are to analyze the characters of the novel, Eliza, George Harris and Haley. This thesis using a theory of Abraham Maslow which is related with Eliza’s motives. The theory could also be used to know the impact of Eliza’s escape. The method used in textual library research. To get the data, the writer read some books and took some notes related to the topic, either from library research or internet. The conclusion of this thesis shows that Eliza makes a great attempt to gain freedom from slavery.

Abstract

Praanggapan atau presuposisi merupakan asumsi tersirat yang menyertai ujaran-ujaran tertentu.Meskipun tidak terucap secara langsung, asumsi tersebut tetap tersampaikan.Praanggapan atau presuposisi dapat diteliti dalam kegiatan penyampaian informasi melalui program yang ditayangkan oleh televisi.Salah satu program televisi yang bertujuan menyampaikan informasi adalah infotainment.Dalam Skripsi ini, penulis mencob amenguraikan praanggapan atau presuposisi yang terdapat dalam ujaran narrator infotainment Silet.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis pemicupra anggapan yang muncul dalam ujaran narrator infotainment Silet.Penulis juga akan mencoba menguraikan fungsi-fungsi dari pranggapan yang terdapat dalam ujaran narrator infotainment Silet.Dalam mengumpulkan data, penulis menggunakan metode observasinon-participant dan dilanjutkan dengan teknik catat.Data kemudian dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling.Penulis menggunakan metodepa dan pragmatic, metode refleksi fintrospektif, dan teknik hapus untuk menganalisis data. Data yang dianalisi oleh penulis merupakan ujaran-ujaran yang mengandung praanggapan.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 55 ujarandari 108 ujaran narrator yang mengandung praanggapan.Penulis menemukan bahwa satu ujaran mempunyai kemungkinan untuk memiliki lebih dari satu pemicu praanggapan yang mewakili jenis praanggapan yang berbeda.Penulis lalu mengkategorikan praanggapan tersebut berdasar jumlah pemicu praanggapan yang ditemukan. Abstract

 Novel Negeri Lima Menara merupakan salah satu novel trilogi karya Ahmad Fuadi yang mengisahkan perjalanan hidupnya semasa mengenyam pendidikan di sebuah Pondok Modern di Gontor. Karakter ini diperankan oleh Alif sebagai tokoh utama.Negeri Lima Menara adalah sebuah novel bertemakan pendidikan dan keagamaan. Tema inilah yang kemudian menjadi kekuatan dalam memberikan pesan dan nilai-nilai positif kepada pembacanya. Selain tema, sudut pandang pengarang dalam novel ini juga menjadi salah satu kekuatan dalam tebentuknya penokohan yang menjadi acuan dalam terjadinya jalan cerita. Terlepas dari kekuatan-kekuatan tersebut, novel Negeri Lima Menara karya Fuadi ini juga memiliki beberapa kelemahan antara lain pada alur cerita dan gaya bahasa. Alur cerita dalam novel ini adalah alur maju mundur atau campuran. Alur melompat-lompat semacam ini dapat membuat pembaca merasa kebingungan dan kehilangan pendalaman kararkter pada saat membaca. Kelemahan lain adalah gaya bahasa yang digunakan penlis kurang banyak dalam penggunaan majas sehingga terkesan datar dan membosankan.       Disamping kekuatan dan kelemahan yang terdapat didalamnya, novel Negeri Lima Menara ini termasuk novel yang menginsipari dan memotivasi pembacanya terutama untuk generasi muda dalam mencapai kesuksesan. Sehingga dapat memunculkan pandangan dan pemikiran baru bagi siapa saja yang membacanya.

Abstract

This paperdescribes the strengths and weaknesses of Barbara Dawson Smith’s The Rogue Report. The Rogue Report is a novel which tells about the aristocrat society in London. The writer’s purpose of this review is to explore the strengths and weaknesses by analyzing its intrinsic elements, namely theme, characters, and conflicts. The writer used a library research method and structural approach to analyze the intrinsic elements. In addition, the writer also adopted Erich Fromm’s theory, The Art of Loving to examine the theme of the novel, namely Love. Every novel has its own uniqueness, though The Rogue Report has some weaknesses, it is still a good reading because it has a bunch of value of life.

Abstract

Sebuah novel karya Randall Wallace yang berjudul Braveheart merupakan salah satu novel terbaik yang berlatarbelakang sejarah. Buku ini tidak hanya mengisahkan betapa heroiknya William Wallace, akan tetapi juga dibumbui dengan kisah cinta yang sangat tragis, sehingga buku ini menarik untuk dibaca.Tujuan penulisan tugas akhir ini adalah untuk mengungkap tema, konflik, setting, karakter, serta kelebihan dan kelemahan novel braveheart. Dalam mengkaji buku ini penulis menggunakan metode penelitian perpustakaan dan pendekatan struktural untuk menganalisa tema, konflik, setting, dan karakter, serta memaparkan beberapa kelebihan dan kelemahan yang dimiliki oleh novel Braveheart.Berdasarkan hasil seluruh pembahasan, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa novel Braveheart merupakan novel yang sangat menginspirasi karena di dalamnya banyak sekali pelajaran yang dapat kita ambil. Keberanian, kepemimpinan, dan kejujuran Wallace patut untuk kita teladani. Tidak hanya itu, buku ini juga banyak mengajarkan tentang kehidupan politik, sosial, dan moral. Walaupun banyak yang menyangsikan keotentikannya, buku ini sangat layak untuk dibaca bagi pembaca yang lapar akan sosok inspiratif.

Abstract

The writer discusses the intrinsic element in poetry of Emily Dickinson entitled “Because I Could Not Stop For Death”. The purpose of this study is to understand the intrinsic elements on the poem. The methods used were library research. By using the method of library research the writer collected some information and documents that support the process of analysis. The result of the study shows what kind of intrinsic elements is used in the poetry to deliver the message.
