Abstract

This extended essay tries to analyze superiority complex from the character of Grace Reed in Huntley Fitzpatrick’s novel My Life Next Door. In writing this paper, the writer uses library researc that is done by reading books, articles, or any written visual documents related to the topics. While in answering questions, the writer tries to analyze intrinsic aspect and extrinsic aspect with Alfred Adler’s individual psychology theory about superiority and inferiority complex. The purpose of this study is to show the kinds of Grace Reed’s superiority over Samantha Reed, the causes on why superiority is exist in Grace Reed’s character and to the effects of Grace’s Reed superiority towards Samantha Reed. The result show that Grace Reed’s superiority can be seen from how Grace Reed behave in everyday life, the factors from the circumstances and the conflicts that happened to the character

Abstract

Dewasa ini penggunaan bahasa Inggris dalam nama menu makanan sangat populer di kalangan para pengusaha rumah makan di kota Kudus. Melihat fenomena tersebut, penulis tertarik untuk melakukan penelitian tentang Word Formation Process at Pazzo Pancake Menu Names in Kudus Extension Mall. Untuk membatasi masalah yang dibahas, penulis hanya membahas tentang nama menu yang dapat dianalisis berdasarkan proses pembentukan kata dalam morfologi bahasa inggris dan membahas tentang makna kata yang terkandung dalam nama menu tersebut, yaitu makna konotatif dan makna denotatif. penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif karena menganalisis kata dan bukan angka. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah nama menu makanan di rumah makan Pazzo Pancake. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan 62 nama menu makanan di rumah makan Pazzo pancake yang dikelompokan berdasarkan proses pembentukan kata yang ditemukan yaitu compounding, derivation, inflection, acronym, blending, coinage, borrowing, clipping, reduplication, dan converseon. Penulis juga menemukan 12 dari nama menu makanan yang mengandung makna denotative dan makna konotatif. Makna denotative didapatkan dari makna yang terkandung di dalam kamus, sedangkan makna konotatif didapatkan berdasarkan menu yang di sajikan.

Abstract

The writer chooses The Bluest Eye because this novel is challenging to be reviewed. The controversial nature of the book, which deals with racism, incest, and child molestation, makes it being one of the most challenged books in America’s libraries – the ones people complain about or ask to be removed, according to The American Library Association (http://www.ew.com/article/2015/04/14/here-are-american-library-associations-10-most-complained-about-books-2014). On the other hand, the story of The Bluest Eye is interesting because the story tells about an eleven year old African American girl who hates her own self due to her black skin. She prays for white skin and blue eyes because they will make her beautiful and allow her to see the world differently, the community will treat her better as well. The story is set in Lorain, Ohio, against the backdrop of America's Midwest during the years following the Great Depression.The Bluest Eye is Toni Morrison's first novel published in 1970.

Abstract

Film Control talks about a band from England, Joy Division. It visualizes the band rise and process in musicality in the late 1970s. The film also puts the vocalist, Ian Curtis, as the main character. The purpose of this study is to analyze how the character, setting, and conflict build the visualization of Ian Curtis and how the internal and external conflicts affect the vocalist’s decision in the film Control directed by Anton Corbijn. Library research is conducted in this study, and the analysis employs an objective approach to discuss the intrinsic elements including character, setting, and conflict in the film. The study shows that Ian is depressed by many conflicts, some of which are the results of his own action. The position of Ian as the father and husband is not well fulfilled because of his duty in the band and this makes him feel guilty. His superego opposes his id when he has an affair with another woman as an escape from his burden. He keeps on questioning himself about what to do and what to decide. His epileptic condition is also a problem that makes his conflicts more complicated. As a result, Ian’s death instinct lead him to commit suicide and put an end to the unsolved problem.

Abstract

Family Life is the 2ndsemi-autobiographical novel by Akhil Sharma, an award-winning Indian-American author. This novel was published in 2014 and had gone into New York Times best books list. Family Life tells about an Indian family that came to America in the late 1970s as part of the first large wave of Indian immigration to the U.S. and, two years later, suffered a terrible tragedy. The family has two children; two boys, ten and fourteen. The older boy dives into a pool and strikes his head on the bottom of the floor. After the accident, he has sufferred severe brain damage: he can no longer walk or talk; he can’t move in his sleep; he has to be fed through a tube. After the brain-damagedboy spends a year in a hospital and a year in nursing home, the family decides to take him home and take care of him themselves. This causes the family to breakdown.

Abstract

Studi ini disusun untuk mempelajari lebih mendalam tentang implikatur percakapan dalam bahasa lisan yang mengandung makna implisit dari suatu pernyataan. Topik yang diambil penulis adalah implikatur percakapan yang terkandung dalam ujaran pemeran utama dalam film “Wuthering Heights”, di mana ujaran yang diungkapkan oleh pemeran utamanya banyak yang mengandung makna implisit. Dengan demikian, penulis mempelajarinya yang dituangkan dalam bentuk final project berupa extended essay.Penulis menggunakan pendekatan Pragmatik untuk menyusun dan mengolah data yang berupa ujaran-ujaran pemeran utama dalam film “Wuthering Heights” yang mengandung implikatur percakapan. Sementara metode studi yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan metode pengamatan SBLC (simak bebas libat cakap) sebagai metode pengumpulan data dan menggunakan teknik mencatat sebagai teknik lanjutannya. Sedangkan untuk metode analisis data, penulis menggunakan metode padan, dimana penulis mencoba memadankan teori yang digunakan dengan data yang dianalisis.Berdasar hasil analisis data, dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa ada kepadanan antara teori Pragmatik yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data, sehingga rumusan masalah dalam studi ini dapat terjawab dengan hasil analisis. Selain itu, hasil studi juga menunjukkan bahwa sepuluh ujaran pemeran utama yang dikaji oleh penulis terbukti mengandung implikatur percakapan.

Abstract

In this thesis, the writer combines the analysis of the two poems written by Percy B. Shelley entitled “Song to the Man of England” and “England in 1819”. The writer analyzes these two poems with the same poet, Percy B. Shelley, because both of the poems are showing the condition of England people in that era. The purposes for the writer to write this thesis are to analyze the intrinsic elements, which is imageries, metaphor, and diction that is reflected in these two poems. The other purpose is to analyze the extrinsic element of the two poems and the condition of people in England during the Romantic Period (1811-1820), which is represented from the two poems in which the writer uses sociological approach and Marxist theory. The research method that the writer uses is contextual research method in which the writer analyzes the intrinsic element and the extrinsic elements of the poems. Abstract

Dialek Banyumas adalah salah satu dialek di dalam Bahasa Jawa yang penuturnya meliputi Barlingmascakeb (Banjarnegara, Purbalingga, Banyumas, Cilacap and Kebumen). Penutur Banyumas mengucapkan dengan cara ngapak-ngapak yang berarti memproduksi vokal [a] tanpa menggantinya dengan vokal [o] yang Bahasa Jawa standar gunakan dan di setiap akhiran diproduksi akhiran [?] serta pada saat memproduksi konsonan [b, d, k, g, h, y, k, l, w] dengan disuarakan sempurna. Berlandaskan dengan kondisi di atas, penulis memutuskan untuk menganalisa proses fonologis menjadi topik dalam tulisan akhir ini. Penulis akan bertumpu pada pembentukan Kata Kerja melalui proses Nasalisasi dengan prefiks. Di dalam pengambilan datanya, penulis menggunakan transkrip fonetis dari siaran radio Cilacap dalam program “Curanmor (Curahan Perasaan dan Humor)”. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif, dengan mengimplementasikan Teori Schane tentang Proses Fonologis dan Fitur Distingtif. Ada tiga jenis data yang penulis gunakan yaitu transkrip fonetis dari 8 episode di program “Curanmor (Curahan Perasaan dan Humor)”, Kamus Bahasa Banyumas untuk penulisan baku dialek Banyumas, dan konfirmasi melalui data pengucapan penutur aktif bahasa Banyumas. Metode pengumpulan data penelitian yang penulis pakai adalah metode Observasi non-Partisipasi dengan metode simak. Metode analisis data yang penulis gunakan adalah metode agih dan padan dengan menggabungkan penentu data. Dari hasil analisis data, penulis menemukan dua proses fonologis yang paling sering dijumpai yakni Assimilasi dan Proses Stuktur Suku-Kata.

Abstract

DN Aidit is the most controversial figure in Indonesia’s history. DN Aidit’s name become some kind of taboo to be discussed or talked. After the “New Order” era, DN Aidit’s name begin to be discussed on media again. Many books discussed DN Aidit, one of them is Aidit: Dua Wajah Dipa Nusantara. This book discussed two sides of DN Aidit, DN Aidit’s good side and bad side. This book offers a more complete version of DN Aidit. This final project will discuss and analize about this book.

Abstract

This book review is written to find the strength and the weakness in Life of Piwhich is written by Yann Martel. “The Book Review of Life of Pi” is focusing on the content of the novel finding the strength and the weakness.  The strengths are the plot and the main character named Pi, the weakness is the end of the novel. The plot conveys how the author describes all situations in this novel clearly and the main character shares readers about how to face the world and Pi shares lots of values in his life as a tough boy. The weakness is the end of the novel, Martel does not give an explanation about why Richard dumps Pi without saying goodbye at all. This novel conveys about anything that people think. A novel does not deliver any knowledge of life, but in this novel I read many valuable words.
