Abstract

Carol Ann Duffy “Medusa” is a poem which emphasizes the human’s emotion, jealousy. The objectives of this thesis are to show the jealousy in the poem through intrinsic elements, also to explain the jealousy and its effect towards human’s psyche. This thesis uses library research as the method of collecting data. To analyze the extrinsic elements of the poem, this thesis uses mythological and psychological approach in order to understand further about the symbolism and concepts of jealousy. The result of this thesis is that jealousy can cause an adverse change to one’s nature and behavior, emerge an extreme hatred, and lead one into her/his self downfall. It can be concluded that jealousy is an emotion which has negative effects towards human’s psyche.

Abstract

Skripsiinimenganalisistentang novel dari H.G. Wells berjudul The War of the Worlds. Tujuan-tujuandariskripsiiniadalahuntukmenjelaskandanmenganalisismekanismepertahanan ego danefek-efeknyaterhadapkehidupan sang Narrator, tokohutamadalam novel ini. Teori-teori yang digunakan di skripsiiniadalahteoripertahanan ego yang dikemukakanoleh Sigmund Freud danberbagaibentuk-bentukmekanismepertahanandiri yang lebih modern dariberbagaipakarpsikologi modern. Metode-metode yang digunakan di skripsiiniadalahpenelitianpustakadandarisumber-sumber internet yang terpercaya. Analisis di skripsiinimenunjukkanbahwa sang Narrator dalam novel inimelakukanberbagaimekanismepertahanandirisepertiintelektualisasi(intellectualization), regresi(regression), acting-out, rasionalisasi(rationalization), danrepresi(repression) agar dapatbertahanhidupdandapatbersatulagidenganistrinya.

Abstract

Manusia selalu berkomunikasi untuk mengungkapkan apa yang mereka pikirkan dan rasakan, dan apa yang mereka butuhkan. Saat mereka mengungkapkan apa yang mereka rasakan, perkataan mereka akan mudah dimengerti oleh lawan bicara mereka. Namun masalah akan muncul ketika mereka berusaha mengungkapkan apa yang mereka butuhkan. Hal inilah yang membuat penulis untuk mengangkat permasalahan tersebut sebagai bahan penelitian. Fenomena ini disebut tindak tutur directive. Di dalam penelitian ini, penulis meneliti fenomena tindak tutur directive di keluaga Pak Winarno. Tujuan penelian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana penutur mengucapkan tindak tutur directive, dan untuk menemukan alasan dari pengucapan tindak tutur tersebut. Penelitian ini merupakan sebuah penelitian kualitatif. Didalam pengumpulan data, peneliti menggunakan Teknik Simak Libat Cakap dengan teknik lanjutan teknik rekam. Ada dua jenis dari tindak tutur directive yaitu langsung dan tidak langsung. Ketika penutur menggunakan tindak tutur directive secara langsung, penutur akan menunjukkan maksud mereka secara langsung. Selain itu penutur juga akan menggunakan politeness strategy tertentu yang dapat mendukung ujaran mereka seperti on record, bald on record, dan positive politeness strategy. Sedangkan ketika penutur mengungkapkan ujaran mereka secara tidak langsung, lawan bicara harus mengetahui konteks pembicaraan mereka. Ketidak langsungan penutur dalam mengungkapkan ujarannya juga akan membawa politeness strategy seperti on record, saving face act, dan negative politeness strategy. Dari hasil analisis ini ditemukan bahwa semua penutur berhasil untuk membuat lawan bicaranya melakukan sesuatu untuk memenuhi kebutuhan penutur. Keberhasilan itu tidak hanya didukung dengan adanya felicity condition tetapi juga kekuatan dari alasan penutur tersebut.

Abstract

Language in advertising has so many variations. One of them is hyperbolic style. Hyperbole is frequently used in beauty products, for example in perfume. From this case the writer is interested in the hyperbolic expression which occurs in perfume advertisement and she wants to do research which is concerned with the topic. There are two main research questions regarding hyperbolic expression in online perfume advertisement, which are what kind of hyperbolic forms that occur in online perfume advertisement and why the advertiser uses hyperbolic utterances in perfume advertisement. The data are language expressions in the form of words, phrases, and sentences in perfume advertisement. The writer used two main methods in analyzing data. The methods are identity and distributional method. The result of this study shows that perfume advertisements use hyperbolic style in delivering their message. The most common hyperbolic form in online perfume advertisements is single word form. The purpose of using hyperbolic style is to make the advertisement more attractive, therefore the customers will have high interest in buying the products.

Abstract

This research shows that there are word formation processes on Kaskusfor communications. The background of the research is that there are a lot of people who are confused when they visit Kaskusfor the first timebecause of the new words formed by the kaskusers. The purpose of this research is to describe the word formation processes that happen on Kaskus, so that the non-kaskusers­who visit Kaskus will have knowledge about the words the kaskusers talk about. Thetheoretical framework used in this research concerns word formation process as is proposed by some experts like O’Grady (1996), Katamba (1993), and Hatch and Brown (1995). This research is descriptive research and it uses qualitative approach. The data in this research are posts in 2015 and taken directly from Kaskus using documentation, observation and interview method. The writer also uses note-taking and SimakBebasLibatCakap(SBLC) technique to support the methods used in the research. The result of the research shows that there are some word formation processes used on Kaskus by kaskusers, such as reduplication,back formation, clipping, blending, compounding, derivation, borrowing, coinage, initialization, and conversion, and initialization process is quite productive among other processes found on Kaskus.

Abstract

Pembelajaran mengenai kebudayaan sama halnya dengan memahami bagaimanakah sebuah negara di bentuk. Hal tersebut dikarenakan bangsa di bangun melalui kebudayaan yang tumbuh dan berkembang sejalan dengan kehidupannya. Kebudayaan ini juga menjadi salah satu senjata yang tangguh dalam menghadapi tantangan bangsa yang semakin berat kedepannya. Buku yang digunakan dalam Projek Final ini terdapat juga penggambaran mengenai kebudayaan tersebut, yaitu mengenai semangat mimpi bangsa Amerika yang tergambar dalam kisah perjalanan dua anak muda pendiri Google, Serger Brin dan Larry Page. Kisah inspiratif yang mendalam mendasari penulis untuk memilih buku karya Janet Lowe tersebut sebagai kajian. Penulis merasa kisah, semangat dan rahasia yang membuat Google menjadi teknologi yang bersejarah perlu untuk di sebar luaskan. Untuk itulah kajian mengenai penemu, perjalanan Google serta kelebihan dan kelemahan buku tersebut akan penulis jelaskan dalam Projek Finalnya.

Abstract

Film Her adalah sebuah film yang menceritakan tentang kehidupan manusia yang sangat bergantung dengan teknologi. Film ini memperkenalkan sebuah teknologi terbaru yaitu sistem operasi komputer yang disebut OS ONE yang diklaim memiliki tingkat intelegensi tinggi dan dapat berkomunikasi secara personal dengan pemiliknya. Sedemikian dekatnya hubungan itu, karakter utama dalam film tersebut yaitu Theodore Twombly dan Amy memiliki hubungan spesial dengan sistem operasi komputer masing-masing. Sedemikian dekatnya hubungan itu Theodore akhirnya menjadi antipati terhadap kehidupan sosialnya di tengah proses perceraian yang sedang dia hadapi dan lebih memilih menyendiri di apartemennya. Skripsi ini memiliki tujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh hubungan yang dimiliki Theodore dan Amy dengan OS ONE masing-masing terhadap pengembangan perilaku mereka dan mendeskripsikan perilaku kedua karakter sebagai sebuah refleksi dalam proses aktualisasi diri. Dalam proses penulisan skripsi ini penulis menggunakan metode penelitian kepustakaan dan menggunakan dua pendekatan. Pendekatan objektf untuk menganalisis unsur intrisik pada film dan pendekatan sosiologi dengan memakai teori Self-Actualization milik Abraham Maslow untuk menganalisis lebih dalam proses aktualisasi karakter utama. Dari analisis, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa secara sadar maupun tidak ketergantungan yang dimiliki karakter utama terhadap OS ONE mempengaruhi kehidupan pribadi dan mengubah pandangan karakter utama dalam mencapai kepuasan terhadap kebutuhan hidupnya. Sehingga mereka akhirnya menyadari bahwa kepuasan yang telah mereka capai dengan bantuan OS ONE hanya bersifat sementara dan pemenuhan akan aktualisasi diri sebenarnya dapat tercapai tanpa harus bergantung kepada OS ONE.

Abstract

Love the One You’re With is a novel written by Emily Giffin in 2008. The novel tells about the love of an obsessed woman over a man in the past. The purpose of this research is to identify Ellen Dempsey’s love and obsession as the main character of the novel. Library research is conducted in this study. The writer uses intrinsic and extrinsic theory. The analysis of intrinsic elementincludes character, setting, and conflict of the novel. Extrinsic theory includes Obsession and Sigmund Freud’s concept of id, ego, and superego. The result of the research shows that Ellen's obsession and conflicts has affected her behavior that makes her fell hesitated. This condition brings her to a conflicts that happen with herself and external conflicts with other people. Thus, it can be inferred that love is deciding to be truly committed in Love the One You’re With.

The strengths are located on the theme and the main characters, named Cyn and Worth  The weakness appears from the epilog. The theme is found through the dialogues delivered by Worth and Cyn.. The main characters have function  to be the object  where the problem lies in.
