Abstract

This thesis analyzes David Baldacci’s novel entitled The Winner. The purposes of this thesis are to explain about the cause of psychopathic disorder, the characteristics of a psychopath, and the effect of psychopathic disorder. The methods that are used in this thesis are library research and psychological approach. This analysis shows the cause of psychopathic disorder of the antagonist, those are childhood harassment and bullying. He has the characteristics of a psychopath: glibness/superficial charm, grandiose sense of self-worth, need for stimulation/proneness to boredom, pathological lying, conning/manipulative, lack of remorse or guilt, lack of empathy, and early behavioral problems. Then, the effect of his psychopathic disorder is not only for himself but also his surroundings. In summary, this thesis shows that psychopathic disorder brings bad impact not only for the sufferer, but also his surroundings. It is shown from how the psychopathic disorder ruins the sufferer’s personality and gives impacts on how he acts towards his surroundings.

Abstract

Karya sastra yang baik adalah karya yang selalu diingat sepanjang masa. Salah satu karya tersebut adalah The Pearl, karya John Steinbeck. Menceritakan kehidupan Kino dan keluarganya yang bekerja sebagai petani mutiara di Mexico yang menemukan sebuah mutiara besar yang sangat langka. Didalam novel ini terdapat gambaran tentang idologi klasisme yang dibahas oleh Lois Tyson dalam bukunya yang berjudul Critical Theory Today dan Terry Eagleton dalam buku yang berjudul The Illusion of Postmodernism. Selain itu didalam novel The Pearl, juga memberikan gambaran tentang sifat-sifat manusia yang muncul pada saat tertentu

Abstract

A novel is usually a reflection for the life of society at the time the novel was published. Through the study of personality based on the main character of a novel, the specific information of a character’s nature and behavior in a storyline could be extracted further. Personality research which is based on the main character of a novel regularly tends to appear with psychological affect. This research was conducted to fulfill two purposes. The first particular purpose of this research was to describe and express the main character's personality in the A Little Princess a work by Frances Hodgson Burnett, and the second purpose was to describe and define the function of the relationship between the other figures on the development of the main character lives in the novel The Little Princess. The methods used in this research are the library study and descriptive approach method. The data is observational data study. Observational data or object of research is a form of a novel written by Frances Hodgson Burnett then examined one by one section in the notes field. In addition to these sources, the data was also obtained from the method of approach of the personality theory developed by Sigmund Freud which is applied into the main character of A Little Princess. Abstract

Esai ini disusun untuk mempelajari relasi makna di dalam kumpulan kata kerja bahasa Jawa yang mengacu pada aktivitas mata. Topik esai ini adalah kajian relasi makna dengan melakukan penelaahan maknasetiap kata kerja bahasa Jawa yang mengacu pada aktivitas mata dengan menggunakan pendekatan semantik dan teori analisis komponen. Metodepenelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif. Sedangkan dalam pengumpulan data, penulis menerapkan metode dokumentasi dari Baoesastra Djawa  (Poerwadarminta, 1939) dan metode simak bebas libat cakap. Dalam membedakan setiap kata kerja bahasa Jawa yang mengacu pada aktivitas mata, penulis menggunakan sampel jenuh (Sugiyono, 2008). Sementara itu, untuk menganalisis data, penulis menggunakan teknik perluas dan teknik ganti untuk mengetahui data tersebut gramatikal atau tidak.Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa kumpulan kata kerja bahasa Jawa yang mengacu pada aktivitas mata dapat dikelompokkan berdasarkan pergerakan kelopak mata, bola mata, unsur kesengajaan dan ketajaman mata saat melihat. Berdasarkan parameter tersebut penulis menemukan dua puluh satu kata kerja bahasa Jawa yang mengacu pada aktivitas mata beserta relasi maknanya yaitu sinonim.

Jancee Dunn wrote a novel entitled Why Is My Mother Getting a Tattoo that reveal how she communicate with many individuals with different background throughout her life. In this book review, writer intends to discuss this novel’s strengths and weaknesses. Through this book review, the writer suggest to read this novel, because through the story, the reader will study about the way to communicate with the people around.

Abstract

Skripsi ini, berfokus pada analisis mengenai proses glokalisasi musik hip hop sebagai refleksi budaya pop Amerika di Indonesia. Studi kasus dari skripsi ini adalah komunitas musik hip hop di kota Semarang bernama “024 Streets”. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menunjukkan proses glokalisasi musik hip hop sebagai subkultur anak muda di Semarang. Penulis menggunakan metode kualitatif dari Chaterine Dawson untuk mengumpulkan data mengenai komunitas musik hip-hop (024 Streets) dan metode pendekatan tentang glokalisasi untuk menganalisis proses globalisasi dan perkembangan musik hip-hop di Semarang. Berdasarkan analisis, penulis menemukan musik hip-hop sebagai budaya pop Amerika yang digemari kaum muda di kota Semarang yang kemudian membentuk komunitas musik hip-hop sebagai ekspresi diri. Penulis juga menemukan pengaruh budaya music hip-hop dalam hal berpakaian pada anggota komunitas “024 Streets”. Dalam analisis ini, penulis menunjukkan proses glokalisasi melalui analisis data yang diperoleh dari kuesioner dan wawancara anggota komunitas musik hip-hop tersebut.

Abstract

Danny the Champion of the World is a children novel written by the famous and successful writer of children book, Roald Dahl. Children’s literature is a form of literary work written to be consumed by children containing all the things that are familiar with the world of children. According to O’Sullivan in Historical Dictionary of Children Literature (2010) children’s literature is a literary work which is easily understood by children with casual language and exhilarating story content aimed to build children’s character in the society (O’Sullivan, 2010:5). It can be concluded that children’s literature functions as the medium to provide entertainment containing good stuffs inside to build a good character for children in the society.

Abstract

Novel merupakan salah satu karya sastra yang paling digemari banyak orang. Dari bermacam-macam jenis novel, novel percintaan hingga kini masih menjadi favorit para pembaca, terutama kaum remaja. Banyaknya novel percintaan yang beredar dewasa ini menuntut penulis untuk menciptakan ide cerita yang lebih segar dan tidak biasa untuk menarik perhatian para pembaca.            Distance, salah satu novel percintaan yang ditulis oleh seorang jurnalis muda bernama Aprilia Yahya ini menyuguhkan jalan cerita yang tidak terduga dan mengharukan. Kekuatan dari novel ini tidak hanya terdapat pada jalan ceritanya yang berbeda, tetapi juga dari pesan moral, setting di dua negara, gaya bahasa, kosakata dari tiga bahasa, dan sudut pandang yang tidak biasa.             Terlepas dari kekuatan-kekuatan tersebut, Distance juga memiliki beberapa kelemahan, antaralain kurangnya perhatian penulis tentang pesona Jakarta yang sepanjang cerita digambarkan sebagai kota yang selalu semrawut, macet, dan banjir. Dengan adanya kekuatan dan kelemahan tersebut, para pembaca diajak untuk menjadi pembaca yang cerdas dalam menelaah setiap informasi yang tertuang disepanjang jalan cerita.

Abstract

Gone Girl is a movie about murder directed by David Fincher. The purpose of this essay is to analyze the main character’s personality through her behavior by discussing intrinsic and extrinsic aspects in this movie. The focus of this essay is Amy Dunne’s dynamics. In order to figure this out, the writer uses psychoanalysis approach by using Sigmund Freud’s theory on the dynamics of personality. From this analysis, it can be concluded that Amy Dunne’s dynamics is leaning on her id which makes her personality unstable.
