Abstract

Background. Organizations are under immense pressure to modernize legacy systems to stay competitive in a fast-changing tech landscape. While Generative AI is recognized as a key driver for productivity and innovation, the specific link between upgrading old systems and achieving organizational agility in the AI era remains largely underexplored. Purpose. This study aims to evaluate how legacy system modernization impacts organizational agility within the context of Generative AI integration. It seeks to understand if these technical upgrades serve as a strategic foundation for fostering adaptability and long-term resilience. Method. The research utilized a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. Data was gathered from key stakeholders across 30 organizations that have successfully completed the modernization of their legacy infrastructures. Results. The findings show significant improvements in decision-making speed, market responsiveness, and operational flexibility. The study highlights that modernization is a critical enabler for faster Generative AI adoption, which directly enhances an organization's overall agility. Conclusion. Modernizing legacy systems is a strategic investment rather than a mere technical necessity. It builds technological resilience and provides a vital framework for AI integration, offering organizations a pathway to sustained competitive advantage and better adaptability.

Abstract

Background. The Indonesian Navy faces significant challenges in securing its vast maritime territory, requiring the integration of modern underwater technologies. While naval warfare increasingly relies on advanced systems, infrastructure limitations currently hinder the shift toward a cohesive, system-oriented undersea defense framework. Purpose. This study explores how underwater technology development can transform the Indonesian Navy’s strategic capabilities. It evaluates the potential of various assets to enhance operational effectiveness and aims to provide a modernization roadmap for the nation's maritime defense. Method. Using a mixed-methods design, the research combines quantitative surveys and qualitative case studies. This approach assesses the technical performance and organizational readiness of specific assets, including submarines, sonar systems, and unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs). Results. Findings show that while submarines and sonar are well-integrated, UUVs face major operational hurdles due to technical gaps and poor system synergy. This suggests that technological innovation must be supported by a unified framework and specialized personnel training. Conclusion. Successful transformation depends on overcoming integration challenges and effectively deploying UUVs alongside traditional assets. The research recommends a balanced focus on both technological advancement and human resource development to ensure a secure and unified maritime future.

Abstract

Background. The rise of heterogeneous IoT devices has increased security risks, but traditional intrusion detection systems struggle with the diversity and limited resources of these devices. Purpose. This research investigates Federated Learning (FL) to develop a decentralized, adaptive IDS that enables collaborative threat detection while ensuring data privacy and low computational load. Method. An FL model was implemented in a simulated IoT network featuring sensors and industrial controllers, then tested against DoS and data injection attacks using accuracy and resource metrics. Results. The FL-based IDS reached a detection accuracy of 95.3% with minimal resource consumption, proving its efficiency for resource-constrained IoT environments. Conclusion. Federated Learning provides a scalable and proactive solution for IoT security, offering a robust framework for privacy-preserving and efficient intrusion detection.

Abstract

Background. Indonesia faces increasingly complex disaster management challenges due to the high frequency of natural disasters and the involvement of multiple institutional sectors in crisis response processes. Fragmented governance structures, overlapping institutional responsibilities, and limited interagency coordination often hinder effective disaster management implementation. Collaborative leadership has therefore emerged as an important governance approach for strengthening cross-sectoral policy integration and improving institutional responsiveness during crisis situations. Purpose. This study aimed to examine the role of collaborative leadership in supporting cross-sectoral policy integration within disaster management systems in Indonesia. Method. Qualitative case study methodology was employed through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis involving governmental agencies, humanitarian organizations, community leaders, and disaster management stakeholders across selected disaster-prone regions. Results. The findings revealed that collaborative leadership significantly improved communication quality, institutional trust, resource coordination, and policy coherence among participating stakeholders. Participatory decision-making, adaptive coordination mechanisms, and transparent communication systems were identified as critical factors supporting effective crisis governance and integrated disaster management implementation. Collaborative leadership additionally strengthened community participation and institutional flexibility during emergency response and recovery processes. Conclusion. This study concludes that collaborative leadership constitutes a strategic governance capacity for enhancing disaster resilience and strengthening integrated crisis management systems in Indonesia. Effective disaster governance therefore requires inclusive coordination structures, adaptive policy integration mechanisms, and sustained interorganizational collaboration across multiple governance sectors.

Abstract

Background. Education in STEM disciplines faces persistent challenges related to engagement, conceptual understanding, and long-term retention, as conventional instructional methods often fail to provide interactive, contextually rich experiences necessary for deep learning. Recent advances in immersive technologies, particularly Virtual Reality (VR), offer the potential to bridge this gap by providing learners with interactive, multisensory environments that enhance understanding and cognitive retention. Purpose. The study aimed to investigate the impact of VR simulations on undergraduate students’ STEM knowledge retention and to identify specific features of immersive pedagogy that contribute to durable learning outcomes, while further seeking to provide actionable guidance for integrating VR into higher education curricula effectively. Method. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving 120 undergraduate students divided into an experimental group exposed to VR simulations and a control group receiving conventional instruction. Data collection included pre-tests, immediate post-tests, delayed post-tests, observational records, and platform analytics, which were analyzed using statistical techniques including paired-sample t-tests and ANCOVA to assess the significance and magnitude of learning gains. Results. Results indicated that VR participants achieved significantly higher immediate and delayed post-test scores, particularly on conceptual and application-based items. Engagement metrics and observational data corroborated enhanced cognitive involvement and sustained learning. Conclusion. Findings confirm that immersive pedagogy via VR significantly improves STEM retention and provides a scalable, evidence-based approach for enhancing higher education instruction.

Abstract

Background. Urbanization and industrial activities have increased waste generation, leading to environmental degradation and negative health impacts. Proper waste management in personal and communal spaces is critical for promoting sustainability, reducing pollution, and improving human well-being. Despite awareness campaigns, the adoption of effective waste reduction and recycling practices remains inconsistent, highlighting the need to understand factors influencing individual and community behavior toward waste management. Purpose. This study aimed to explore strategies for reducing waste in living and working spaces and to assess their impact on environmental sustainability and human health. Specifically, it investigated how organized waste management practices, recycling initiatives, and behavioral interventions contribute to creating greener and healthier environments. Method. A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving surveys of 350 urban residents, observations of household and office waste management practices, and interviews with sustainability experts. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis, while qualitative responses were coded thematically to identify common practices, challenges, and motivators. Results. The findings indicate that consistent waste segregation, adoption of reusable materials, and community-led recycling programs significantly reduce environmental impact and improve perceived cleanliness and health outcomes. Educational interventions and visible waste management infrastructures were positively correlated with higher participation rates. Conclusion. Effective waste management in personal and communal spaces can substantially contribute to environmental sustainability and public health. Policy makers and educators should prioritize awareness campaigns, accessible recycling infrastructure, and behaviorally-informed strategies to enhance waste reduction practices in urban settings.

Abstract

Background. The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence has transformed the digital information landscape, enabling the creation of highly realistic synthetic media known as deepfakes. Unlike conventional fake news, deepfakes possess the capacity to manipulate audiovisual evidence in ways that challenge public perceptions of authenticity and truth. The growing proliferation of deepfake content has raised significant concerns regarding the credibility of digital journalism, the reliability of information sources, and the erosion of epistemic trust within contemporary communication environments. Purpose. This study aims to examine how the rise of deepfakes contributes to the crisis of epistemic trust in digital journalism and to explore the broader implications of synthetic media for journalistic credibility and public knowledge. Method. A qualitative research design based on a critical literature review and thematic content analysis was employed. Data were collected from peer-reviewed journal articles, institutional reports, policy documents, and documented case studies published between 2018 and 2025. Results. Findings reveal that deepfakes undermine trust not only by disseminating deceptive content but also by fostering uncertainty regarding the authenticity of legitimate information. Authenticity ambiguity, verification challenges, audience skepticism, and institutional trust erosion emerged as the dominant themes across the analyzed literature. Conclusion. The study concludes that deepfakes represent a fundamental epistemic challenge that extends beyond misinformation. Preserving trust in digital information ecosystems requires integrated responses involving technological innovation, journalistic verification, media literacy, and governance frameworks.
