Abstract

Islamic economics has emerged as an important alternative economic paradigm that integrates ethical values, legal principles, and economic activities derived from Islamic teachings. In recent decades, the rapid expansion of Islamic banking has positioned Islamic economics as a significant component of the global financial system, raising questions about its evolution, practical implementation, and broader international impact. This study aims to analyze the evolution of Islamic economics by examining its foundational principles, contemporary practices, and the global role of Islamic banking. The research employed a qualitative and descriptive-analytical approach, drawing on secondary data from academic literature, policy documents, and international financial reports related to Islamic finance. Data were analyzed through thematic and comparative analysis to explore the relationship between Islamic economic principles and institutional banking practices. The findings indicate that Islamic banking has successfully translated core Islamic economic principles, such as risk sharing, asset backing, and ethical responsibility, into modern financial operations, while also adapting pragmatically to global regulatory and market environments. The study further reveals that Islamic banking has gained global relevance by promoting ethical finance, financial inclusion, and institutional stability. The study concludes that Islamic economics represents an adaptive and evolving economic framework in which Islamic banking serves as a key mechanism for integrating ethical values into contemporary global finance.

Abstract

Background. Legal pluralism has intensified global debates concerning the relationship between indigenous customary justice systems and universal human rights norms. Efforts to codify customary penal systems increasingly generate tensions regarding cultural autonomy, legal legitimacy, and human dignity. Indigenous sanctions are often grounded in communitarian conceptions of justice that emphasize restoration, reconciliation, and collective responsibility, whereas international human rights frameworks prioritize individual rights, procedural fairness, and equality before the law. Purpose. This study aims to examine the epistemic foundations underlying these tensions and explore how competing legal knowledge systems influence the codification of customary penal systems. Method. A qualitative socio-legal research design was employed through document analysis, comparative case examination, thematic coding, and interpretive analysis of legal texts, policy documents, judicial decisions, and scholarly literature concerning customary law and human rights. Results. Findings reveal that conflicts emerging during codification processes are primarily epistemological rather than purely legal in nature. Differences in conceptions of justice, authority, accountability, and social order significantly shape perceptions of legitimacy among indigenous communities, state institutions, and human rights actors. Participatory legal reforms incorporating indigenous perspectives were found to reduce normative tensions and improve acceptance of codified legal frameworks. Conclusion. The study concludes that sustainable legal integration requires recognition of epistemic diversity alongside commitments to fundamental human rights protections. Constructive dialogue between indigenous legal traditions and universal human rights frameworks offers a pathway toward more inclusive and culturally responsive legal governance in pluralistic societies.

Abstract

The pervasive integration of digital technologies into adolescents’ lives has fundamentally altered their developmental environments. While the cognitive impact of this “digital age” is widely debated, research often overlooks how these effects are moderated by cultural context, which shapes how technology is adopted and utilized. This study aimed to conduct a cross-cultural comparison of the relationship between specific patterns of digital technology engagement and key cognitive functions, including attention, working memory, and problem-solving skills, among adolescents. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 400 adolescents (aged 14-16) from the United States (n=200) and South Korea (n=200). Participants completed standardized cognitive tests and a Digital Usage Questionnaire. Multiple regression analyses were used to examine the interaction between culture and technology use on cognitive performance. A significant interaction effect emerged. In the U.S. sample, higher social media use correlated with weaker sustained attention. In the South Korean sample, high engagement in collaborative online gaming was positively associated with enhanced problem-solving skills and working memory. The cognitive correlates of technology use differed significantly across cultures. The cognitive impact of the digital age is not universal but is profoundly shaped by cultural values that guide technology engagement.

Abstract

The increasing spread of misinformation through digital platforms has raised significant concerns about its societal impact, particularly in political, health, and social domains. Deep learning models in Natural Language Processing (NLP) have shown high performance in detecting misinformation, but their lack of interpretability remains a major challenge for trust, transparency, and accountability. As black-box models, they often fail to provide insights into how predictions are made, limiting their acceptance in sensitive real-world applications. This study investigates the integration of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) techniques to enhance the interpretability of deep learning models used in misinformation detection. The primary objective of this research is to evaluate how different XAI methods can be applied to explain and interpret the decisions of NLP-based misinformation classifiers. A comparative analysis was conducted using state-of-the-art deep learning models such as BERT and LSTM on benchmark datasets, including FakeNewsNet and LIAR. XAI methods including SHAP (SHapley Additive Explanations), LIME (Local Interpretable Model-agnostic Explanations), and attention visualization were applied to analyze model behavior and feature importance. The findings reveal that while deep learning models achieve high accuracy in misinformation detection, XAI methods significantly improve transparency by highlighting influential words and phrases contributing to model decisions. SHAP and LIME proved particularly effective in providing human-understandable explanations, aiding both developers and end-users. In conclusion, incorporating XAI into NLP-based misinformation detection frameworks enhances model interpretability without sacrificing performance, paving the way for more responsible and trustworthy AI deployment in combating online misinformation.
