Abstract

Objective: This research is based on recurring problems in the import process delays, particularly those caused by national holidays. Such delays often lead to congestion in the days following the holidays, resulting in container backlogs that must be cleared immediately. Additional contributing factors include limited availability of trucking vendor fleets, hindered communication with related parties, and overloaded service systems. The objective of this study is to identify strategies for resolving import delays and to evaluate the supporting and inhibiting factors within the process. Method: The research method employed is descriptive qualitative, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Results: The results of the study indicate that the strategies implemented by the company include the optimization of documentation processes, coordination with relevant agencies, and the use of information technology for cargo tracking. The key supporting factor is the availability of competent human resources, while the main obstacles stem from regulatory changes and delays caused by third parties such as customs or logistics partners. Novelty: These findings are expected to contribute to the development of logistics management in the import sector.

Abstract

Objective: This research is based on recurring issues in the process of releasing imported goods from bonded zones, as well as discrepancies between the quality (grade) of goods delivered and those ordered by importers. These issues significantly impact the effectiveness and efficiency of the import logistics supply chain. The objective of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of the handling process for the release of imported goods from bonded zones by PT. Mitra Kargo Indonesia. Method: This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Informants were selected using purposive sampling and consist of four employees of the company and one importer who collaborates with the company. The data analysis technique follows several stages: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Results: The release of imported goods can be effective when each stage, such as document submission, PIB preparation, customs clearance, delivery order processing, and release from the bonded zone, is carried out according to standard procedures with complete documentation. However, challenges arise from both internal and external factors, including data entry errors, document issues, procedural delays, port congestion, and inspection holds. Novelty: To ensure a smoother process, better coordination, accuracy, and system preparedness are essential.

Abstract

Objective: PT XYZ Jakarta is a technology-based logistics company that provides end-to-end logistics solutions for business operators. One of the warehouses managed by PT XYZ stores a variety of client products with different movement characteristics, including fast-moving items. The main issue identified in the warehouse operations is inefficiency in the picking activity, which is caused by the randomized storage system that does not consider item demand frequency or the distance to the packing area. This condition results in increased picking time and the potential for daily distribution backlogs. This study aims to optimize the storage layout for fast-moving items by applying the Pareto method and the Time Motion Study approach to improve the efficiency of picking activities at PT XYZ Jakarta’s warehouse. Method: A descriptive qualitative method was employed in this research, with data collected through participatory observation, interviews, and documentation. The Pareto method was used to identify category A SKUs with high picking frequency, while the Time Motion Study was applied to measure and compare picking times between the existing layout and the proposed layout. Results: The findings show that the existing layout results in an average picking time of 5.12 minutes per SKU, whereas the proposed layout reduces the time to 3.7 minutes per SKU. This indicates an improvement in picking efficiency of approximately 41.8%, with productivity increasing from 12 to 17 SKUs per hour. Placing fast-moving items closer to the packing area has proven effective in reducing picker travel time and optimizing overall warehouse operational workflows. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in the application of the Pareto method and the Time Motion Study approach to optimize the storage layout of fast-moving items in a warehouse, leading to a significant improvement in picking efficiency and overall warehouse operations. This method provides a systematic approach to addressing inefficiencies in warehouse management, with practical implications for logistics companies.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the causes of defects and minimize their occurrence in PT XYZ, a concrete company producing U Ditch concrete, which has a defect standard of 0.1%. The percentage of defects from January to November 2023 exceeded this standard. Method: The methods used in this study are DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) and RCA (Root Cause Analysis). DMAIC is employed to define the level of defect control, while RCA is applied to analyze the root causes of the defects. Result: The results indicate that the highest causes of defects are related to the worker factor, which includes frequent human errors; the material factor, where materials do not meet standards; the machine factor, with inadequate calibration; and the production environment factor, which is still carried out in an open space. The DPMO (Defects Per Million Opportunities) value of PT XYZ is 46,557, meaning there is a possibility of 46,557 defective products per one million products produced. Novelty: The study highlights the importance of a comprehensive analysis using DMAIC and RCA to address the root causes of defects in production processes, which can help the company achieve quality standards and minimize product defects.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to identify and solve the problem of product defects that occur at PT. Trisakti Jaya, a galvalume production company located in the Margo Mulyo Permai warehouse block C-6 Surabaya, which has 6 long vehicles and approximately 200 employees. These defects have reduced customer satisfaction and caused financial losses for the company. Method: The research employs the FMECA (Failure Mode Effect and Criticality Analysis) and RCA (Root Cause Analysis) methods. The FMECA method explains how the percentage of product defects can occur and what percentage arises after using this method, while the RCA method determines how the most effective solutions to problems can be obtained to help the company find the best corrective actions. Result: The results show that tears and dents are the highest types of defects, with the highest defect rate occurring in December. This is because the defect data exceeded the upper limit of the control chart, where the tear UCL (Upper Control Limit) is 2470 while the defect data is 2451, and the dent UCL is 3700 while the defect data is 3677. The tear defect is mainly caused by a lack of care when using the machine and minimal lighting in several warehouse corners. Novelty: The study provides a practical improvement recommendation by reminding operators about proper cutting machine operation and repairing lighting in less bright warehouse areas, offering a targeted and data-driven approach to reduce recurring defects in the galvalume production process.
