Abstract

Effect of Humic Compounds and CaCO3 Combination on Aluminium and Phosphate of Typic Paleudult Kentrong Banten (S. Winarso, E. Handayanto, Syekhfani and D. Sulistyanto): Decomposition of organic matter releases humic compounds, that can chelate metals include Al in acidic soils. This chelation of Al is important for decreasing of Al activity and P fixation in acidic soils. This study was aimed to test the effect of humic compounds extracted from rice-straw compost and CaCO3 combination on aluminium activity and phosphate (available P) on an Ultisol (Typic Paleudult) collected from Kentrong Banten.  A laboratory study was conducted by series consentration of CaCO3 (0, 500, 1.000, 2.000, dan 3.000 ppm) in 8 grams of acidic soil. The acidic soil had previously been subjected to continuously addition of humic compounds and none. Then, these mix of soil and CaCO3 were added 40 ml contained 5.000 ppm humic compounds to obtain 1:5 soil:suspension ratio and  control was made by using aquadest. They were shaked for 2 hours every day and pH was measured. At 11st days incubation  Alexch (N KCl) and soluble of P (PB and PC) were measured.  The results  showed that liming or addition of CaCO3 to the acidic soils decreased Alexch (precipitated to be Al(OH)3) linearly with formula y = -0.778x + 6.108; y = Alexch (Cmol kg-1), x = CaCO3 (M); R² = 0,916. Combination addition of humic compounds and CaCO3 was able to increase pH and Alexch up to not detected. The increased of P-soluble or desorption P untill 384% took place at addition of 0.0016 M CaCO3 and 5000 ppm humic compounds. More desorption of P was observed if the acidic soils has previously been subjected to continuously addition of humic compounds, such us the increased of soluble P up to 739% at addition of CaCO3 0.0008 M.

Abstract

Relationship Between Concentration of Cr(VI) and Soil Chemical Characteristics: Preliminary Information for Remediation of Ex-mined Lands in the South Kalimantan (A.R. Saidy and Badruzsaufari): High concentration of heavy metals is frequently observed as an effect of mining activity. In order to determine relationship between concentration of Cr(VI) in ex-mined land and soil chemical characteristics, 15 of soils were sampled from ex-coal and chromate mined-lands in the South Kalimantan Province. Result of the experiment revealed that soils from the ex-mined lands contained 700 - 2645 mg Cr kg-1 soil. This research also showed that 0,73-1,35% of total Cr in these soils exist in the form of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) that is toxic and carcinogen. Concentration of Cr(VI) in these soils were correlated significantly with soil pH in which increasing soil pH would lead to increase in concentration of Cr(VI). In addition, increasing in soil organic carbon will be followed by decreasing concentration of Cr(VI). Relationship between concentration of Cr(VI) and soil pH and organic carbon content could be useful for preliminary information for Cr reclamation of ex-mined lands.

Abstract

Relationship between the Organic Matter Content with Post Harvest Period of Forest Industrial Plant Acacia mangium Willd (Sabaruddin, S.N.A. Fitri, and L. Lestari): Timber harvesting may have significant effects on soil organic matter content through mechanical disturbance, inputs of logging slash, alterations in litter production, and leaching of dissolved organic matter, as well as the alteration of temperature and moisture regimes.  To investigate the effect of post-harvest period of tree harvesting on the dynamics of soil organic matter content, surface soils (0 to 10 cm and 10 to 20 cm) were collected from intact Acacia mangium Willd. plantation (control) and from A. mangium Willd. harvested in 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2006 in four replicates.  Each replicate consisted of composited 4 sub-samples.  Timber harvesting reduced litter accumulation on soil surface.  However, the amount of litter accumulated on soil surface increased as post-harvest period increased.  Timber harvesting significantly (p<0.001) affected soil organic matter content both in 0 to 10 cm and 10 to 20 cm.  The increases in soil organic matter content were significantly correlated (r=0.85; p<0.001 in 0 to10 cm and r=0.62; p<0.01 in 10 to 20 cm) with post harvest period.

Abstract

Response of Maize Plant to Phosphorus Fertilization on Typic Distrudepts (A. Kasno): On the acid soil, phosphorus nutrients  become critical for agricultural crops growth. At the present, price of fertilizers significantly increase and fertilizers are not available. These conditions can affect on soil productivity and crop production. The objective of these research were to study the  response of maize (Zea mays L.) to phosphate fertilizers on Inceptisol. The research was conducted in Cicadas Village on Typic Dystrudept. Experiment was conducted in a randomized completely block design, with 8 treatments and three replications. Treatments consisted of 6 dosages of P fertilizers, which were P source is SP-36 WIKA Agro 0, 10, 20, 40, 60 and 80 kg ha-1. SP-36 and Tunisia rock phosphate (40 kg P ha-1) were used for standard. Pioneer 12 variety of maized was used as an indicator. Plot size was 5 m x 6 m and the maize was planting with distance of 75 cm x 20 cm with   one seed per hole. The results showed  that organic C and N, P (extracted by Bray 1), K and CEC on the soil were low. Phosphate fertilizers significantly increased which was P extracted by HCl 25% from 24 to 67 mg P 100 g-1 soil and which were extracted by Bray 1 increased from 0,87 to  63.31 mg P kg-1 soil. Phosphate fertilizers significantly increased plant height from 175.2 cm become to 221.1 cm. Plant height of maize using SP-36 WIKA Agro fertilizer (210.6 cm) was similar to plant heigh using SP-36 fertilizer (213.4 cm)  but less height from Tunisia rock phosphate. The yield of maize on SP-36 WIKA Agro (4.94 t ha-1) were linely higher than SP-36 (4.69 t ha-1), significantly was higher than that of Tunisia rock phosphate. Maximum dosage of SP-36 fertilizer was 66.67 kg P ha-1, and optimum dosage was 42 kg P ha-1. Value of Relative Agronomic Effectiveness SP-36 WIKA Agro fertilizer was heigher than SP-36.

Abstract

Phosphate and Ferrous Solubilty on Acid Sulphate Soils Treated with Rice Straw (A. Fahmi, B. Radjagukguk, and B. H. Purwanto): The objective of this research was to investigate the effect of application of organic matter from rice straw (RS) on phosphate and Fe2+  solubility in the acid sulphate soils.  The research was conducted in the glass house consisting of the three treatment factors using the completely randomized design with three replication.  The first factor was soil condition : continuous application of  RS and without application of RS during the last 5 years.  The second factor was fresh application of RS ; with application and without application, whereas the third factor was phosphate application consisting 3 rates of SP – 36 fertilizers (0.5; 1,0 and 1.5 of application dossage). The result showed the three factors interaction had a significant influence on soil pH at 2 weeks after planting, whilst   interaction between RS application and soil condition had a significant influence on soil pH, available phosphate at 4, 6 and 8 weeks after planting.  The interaction between RS application and phosphate fertilizers rate had a significant influence on soil pH 4 weeks after planting, and on available phosphate at 8 weeks after planting.  The main effect of RS application was significant on exchangeable Fe and soil pH at all observations periods.

Abstract

Dynamic Model as Attainment Effort of Nitrogen Synchronization at Lettuce Cultivation with Green Manure Paitan  (Y.A. Nugroho and E.M.N. Ningsih): Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) is  vegetable crop that consumed part of the leaf and harvested at a phase of vegetative. Nitrogen play important role in growth  at phase of vegetative. Nitrogen in spacious have the character of easy to lose because of leaching.  Increasing yield of  lettuce can be  done  by improving Nitrogen synchronization, that is precisely usage moment with ready moment  of N during and amount of its. The research was aimed to study of  the pattern nitrogen requirement  for lettuce crop, ready pattern of nitrogen by Tithonia diversifolia and design nitrogen synchronization model between lettuce crop with green manure of  T. diversifolia. The research were divided in two phases that are phase research 1: Dynamic modeling for nitrogen synchronization on lettuce cultivation by green manure of T. diversifolia, and phase research 2: Fertilizer technology of high nitrogen synchronization on lettuce cultivation by green manure of T. diversifolia. The result  of phase research 1 (first year research) shows that dynamic model of N requirement by lettuce crop,  release  and availability model of N by T. diversifolia and synchronization model of N  between requirement of N  lettuce with  release and availability of N by T. diversifolia.   The dynamic model   indicate that   giving  10 t ha-1  of  T. diversifolia which given 2 weeks before transplanting at lettuce crop can support high result and growth because happened good synchronization of N.

Abstract

Effort to Increase Oil Palm Production through Application Technique of Soil and Water Conservation (K. Murtilaksono, W. Darmosarkoro, E.S. Sutarta, H. H. Siregar, and Y. Hidayat): The study was carried out at block 375, 415, and 414 (block 1, 2, and 3) Afdeling III, Mangement Unit of Rejosari, PT Perkebunan Nusantara VII, Lampung from June 2005 until December 2007.  Objective of the study is to examine the effect of soil and water conservation measurement, namely bund terrace and silt pit that are combined with retarded-water hole on production of oil palm. Sampled trees of each block were randomly selected as much as 36 trees.  Parameters of vegetative growth (additional new frond, total of frond, number of new bunch), production (number of bunch, fresh fruit bunch (TBS)), and average of bunch weigh (RBT) were observed and recorded every two weeks.  Production of palm oil of each block was also recorded every harvesting schedule of Afdeling.  Tabular data were analyzed descriptively by logical comparison among the blocks as result of application of bund terrace and silt pit.  Although the data of sampled trees were erratic, bund terrace and silt pit generally increasing number of frond, number of bunch, average of bunch weight, and fresh fruit bunch.  Bund terrace gived the highest production of TBS (25.2 t ha-1) compared to silt pit application (23.6 t ha-1), and it has better effect on TBS than block control (20.8 t ha-1).  Aside from that, RBT is the highest (21 kg) at bund terrace block compared to silt pit block (20 kg) and control block (19 kg).

Abstract

Changes of Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria Population on Paddy Field with Intensive Farming became Sustainable Organic Farming System (Dermiyati, J. Antari, S. Yusnaini, and S.G. Nugroho): The research aimed to study the change of population of phosphate solubilizing microorganisms according to the application time of bokashi which were applied continously on organic paddy rice fields since years of 2000 up to 2006.   The research was conducted in a Randomized Completely Block Design in four replicates.  The treatments were without bokashi (control; with intensively application of NPK fertilizers), bokashi application for 3  planting seasons (12 t ha-1), bokashi application for 4 planting seasons (16 t ha-1), bokashi application for 7 planting seasons (28 t ha-1), and bokashi application for 9 planting seasons (36 t ha-1).  The results showed that the population of phosphate solubilizing microorganisms were not affected by continously applied of bokashi and did not have correlations to organic carbon, total nitrogen, ratio C/N, soil pH, and soil water content.  However, the phosphate solubilizing microorganisms had played a role in the availability of the soil available-P which were shown by increasing of paddy yields year by year, although the contribution of soil phosphorus from bokashi is a relatively low. Yet, the bokashi application on the organic paddy fields did not increase the soil availble-P because most of the P which was absorbed by the plants coming from residual P fertilizers either from bokashi or SP-36 which were intensevely given before.

Abstract

Effectivity of the Earthworms Pheretima  hupiensis, Eudrellus sp. and Lumbricus sp. on the Organic Matter  Decomposition Process (E.K. Anwar): The earthworms  are the one of soil fauna  component in  soil ecosystem have an important role in organic matter decomposition procces. The earthworm feed  plant leaf  and plant matter up to apart and dissolved.  Earthworm  metabolisms  produce like faeces that mixed with decomposed organic matter  mean vermicompost. The vermicompost fertility varies because of some kind of earthworm differ in “niche”  and attitude. The experiment was to study the effectivity of earthworm  on organic matter decomposition which has been conducted in Soil Biological and Healthy Laboratory and Green House of Soil Research Institute Bogor, during 2006 Budget Year. The three kind of earthworms i.e  Pheretima hupiensis, Lumbricus sp. and Eudrellus sp. combined with three kind of organic matter sources i.e rice straw, trash and  palm oil plant waste (compost heap). The result shows that the Lumbricus sp.  are the most effective decomposer compared to Pheretima hupiensis and Eudrellus sp. and the organic matter decomposed by  Lumbricus sp. as followed:  market waste was decomposed of 100%, palm oil empty fruit bunch (compost heap) 95.8 % and rice straw 84.9%,  respectively. Earthworm effectively decreased Fe, Al, Mn, Cu dan Zn.

Abstract

Nature on Soil Phisical, Chemical and Ftir Spectrophotometry of Hydrophobic Peat From Central Kalimantan (S.N.H. Utami, A. Maas, B. Radjagukguk, and B.H. Purwanto): Peat soils naturally have hydrophilic or water-loving character with highly capable of exchanging the cations and cycling the nutrients from the vegetations. This water-loving character is altered to water-repellent character in hydrophobic peat soils. This research was aimed to observe deeply the functional bunch carrier of hydrophobic and hydrophilic peat soils as shown by FTIR spectra in relation with inherent chemical and physical properties of the soils. Five peat soils consisted of two native and artificial hydrophobic peat soils and one sample of hydrophilic peat soils were studied. Artificial hydrophobic peat soils were yielded by oven-drying the native hydrophobic peat soils at 50 oC for 10 hours. FTIR spectra can distinguish the functional bunch carrier of hydrophobic and hydrophilic peat soils. FTIR spectra of hydrophobic peat soils showed degradation of hydrophilic bunch carrier (¾OH and ¾COOH) and increase of the hydrophobic bunch carrier (tying aromatic from esther and ether). Chemical analysis  of the hydrophobic peat soils also indicated the decrease of ¾OH and ¾COOH content, decrease of CEC , soil total acidity and soil moisture content.
