The Shī’ī eschatological doctrine encompasses the belief in the Imām Mahdī, or the Hidden Imām, who will reemerge at the end of time as a savior. This savior is anticipated to establish socio-political justice and equity, leading to a peaceful life grounded in Islamic teachings. In essence, the Imām Mahdī is believed to bring about an ideal religious society.

This writing presents one of the prominent figures of Western intellectualism, Frithjof Schuon, who vehemently criticizes Western modernism while advocating traditionalism as a solution. There are several reasons that demonstrate the significance of Schuon's discussion in relation to modernity. Firstly, Schuon is an intellectual who was born, raised, and directly engaged with Western civilization. Therefore, his authority in discussing Western civilization is unquestionable. Secondly, Schuon is a recognized expert in Comparative Religion, known for his proficiency in explaining various religions. This is acknowledged by the adherents of the religions he describes. Due to his expertise, Schuon's thoughts, including traditionalism, are widely listened to and even followed not only by the Islamic community—the religion Schuon eventually chose and adhered to—but also by followers of other religions such as Judaism, Christianity, and others.

The study of contemporary Islamic thought explores the dynamic and evolving nature of Islamic intellectualism in the modern world. This field examines how Muslim scholars and thinkers address current issues, reinterpret classical texts, and interact with global trends and ideologies. Key areas of focus include the engagement with modern science and technology, the challenges of globalization, the pursuit of social justice, and the reinterpretation of Sharia in contemporary contexts. By analyzing the contributions of various contemporary Muslim thinkers, this study aims to understand the ongoing development and transformation of Islamic thought and its implications for the Muslim world and beyond.

This passage presents arguments for the existence of an afterlife grounded in rational reasoning and supported by sacred scriptures, aiming to strengthen the faith of religious believers. However, it acknowledges that these arguments may not satisfy adherents of agnosticism and atheism, who often counter them with various reasons. Nevertheless, for the consideration of atheists, the hypothetical scenario is proposed: if there were no Day of Judgment, both religious adherents and atheists would be equally safe, with no loss on either side. Conversely, if the Day of Judgment does indeed occur, believers would be saved while atheists would not, altering the outcome significantly in favor of theism.

The fundamental difference between modern scientific theory and Islam, particularly in scope and methodology, lies in their fundamental perspectives. My hope is for modern Muslim intellectuals to realize that the modern scientific worldview is not the only universal perspective. There exist other scholarly perspectives developed by classical Muslim scholars—and indeed scholars of other religions—that could be considered as alternatives, potentially more suitable for our culturally religious atmosphere.

In this article, Habermas's thought will be discussed in three parts. First, the continuity and discontinuity of Habermas's thought with his predecessors will be examined. Second, a general overview will be provided of the relationship or differences in the paths of Marxist thought in general and Habermas as a thinker who adheres to Marxist thought. Third, the discussion will delve into the theoretical realm concerning Habermas's central concepts that distinguish him radically from Marxist and neo-Marxist thought in general.

The main thesis of this book is that during the New Order era, a unique and distinct Islamic intellectual movement emerged, known as Neo-Modernism. Nurcholish Madjid, Djohan Effendi, the late Ah. Mad Wahib, and Abdurrahman Wahid are four figures of this Neo-Modernist movement. The hallmark of their intellectual movement lies in their mastery of classical/traditional Islamic knowledge (commonly referred to as "kitab kuning") combined with modern knowledge. The characteristic of integrating these two forms of knowledge did not emerge in the period from pre-independence until the 1970s. In the past, those educated in modern sciences lacked mastery of Islamic teachings, while those well-versed in Islamic sciences were not adaptive to modern knowledge. This situation consequently gave rise to two popular typologies: the first group known as Modernists (represented by Masyumi, Muhammadiyah, and Western-educated Muslim scholars), while the second group is referred to as Traditionalists (represented by NU and students lacking Western education). Even among intellectuals of the past who possessed both aspects, they were very few in number. The late Harun Nasution, Mukti Ali, and Mohammad Natsir were among those few.
