Abstract

Cinachyrella sp. marine sponge produce many kinds of secondary metabolites. The purpose of this study was to examine the cytotoxic and anti-proliferative activity of marine sponge Cinachyrella sp. The sponge was extracted with 96 % ethanol. Ethanol extract cytotoxicity assay were performed with MTT method (Microculture Tetrazolium) against to cell lines of HeLa, T47D, WiDr and Vero. The results show that of the ethanol extract were only toxic to cell lines of HeLa IC50 897.809 μg/mL but did not toxic to cell lines of T47D, WiDr and normal cell lines of Vero. Fractionation of the ethanol extract was conducted by a Vacuum Column Chromatography (VCC) and have 4 fraction that were F1, F2, F3 and F4. Cytotoxicity and cell proliferation inhibitory were tested of fraction F1, F2, F3 and F4 against cell lines of T47D. The values IC50 of F1; F2; F3 and F4 against cell lines of T47D were 82.744; 163.679; 66.522 and 333.026 μg/mL and fraction F3 concentration 31.5 µg/mL inhibits cell proliferation cell lines of T47D at 48 hours of incubation

Abstract

This research examine about the moments, cumulants, and characteristic function of the log-logistic distribution. Therefore, the purposes of this article are (1) finding moments of the log-logistic distribution by using moment generating function and by definition of expected values of the log-logistic random variable and (2) finding the cumulants and characteristic function of the log-logistic distribution. Log-logistic distribution has two parameters: the shape parameter α and β as a parameter scale. Moments of the log-logistic distribution can be determined by using the moment generating function or the definition of expected value. Cumulants determined by the moments that have been found previously. Furthermore, skewness and kurtosis can be determined from the log-logistic distribution. While the characteristic function is the expected value of e^itx, which I as an imaginary number

Abstract

Water pollution caused by heavy metals is a serious problem to environment. Hg and Pb are heavy metals having high toxicity level. Heavy metals treatment is necessary before releasing them to environment. The use of adsorption method is interesting because of its relatively simple operation. The development of adsorption is oriented to the use of industrial waste such as coal fly ash. The objective of this research is to investigate the kinetics aspect of Hg and Pb adsorption using coal fly ash. A series of a Hg and Pb adsorption experiment using coal fly ash with time variation was carried out. The results were plotted to pseudo first order kinetic and pseudo second order kinetic model. The conclusion obtained was that Hg and Pb adsorption kinetics followed pseudo second order kinetic model

Abstract

This study attempts to model and optimize the complicated electrical discharge machining (EDM) process using soft computing techniques. Artificial neural network (ANN) with back propagation algorithm is used to model the process. In this study, the machining parameters, namely pulse current, on time, off time and gap voltage are optimized with considerations of multiple performance characteristics such as metal removal rate (MRR) and surface roughness. As the output parameters are conflicting in nature so there is no single combination of cutting parameters, which provides the best machining performance. Genetic algorithm (GA) with properly defined objective functions was then adapted to the neural network to determine the optimal multiple performance characteristics.

Abstract

Photo-responsive molecule Sudan III has been developed in form of thin film to pursue their excellent properties especially for optical sensor device application. However, thin film of Sudan III possesses a weak mechanical property. And therefore in order to enhance this functional property of the Sudan III molecule was embedded within polymer matrix to form composite material. In this research, the thin films composite of Sudan III-Poly(N-Vinylcarbazole) or Sudan III/PVK were fabricated by using casting and spin coating methods. The structure of Sudan III-Poly(N-Vinylcarbazole) composite material were characterized by using FTIR, XRD measurement and for the optical property (absorbance) by UV-VIS measurement. In this paper the experiment results are presented
