Abstract

Abstract. In general, mathematics learning at schools is still a teacher centered, so the students become less active in teaching-learning process. Beside that, the students are also never given a problem-solving work done in groups. It causes the students become passive and just listen to the teacher’s explanation. It makes the students bored and invites difficulties in learning mathematics. It also causes the low score of the student learningachievement. Therefore, it needs a development of learning by applying a problem-solving approach as Polya says about square and rectangular objects to improve the student learning achievement of class VII B in SMP Negeri 10 Jember 2012/2013 academic year. Polya says, in a problem-solving approach, there are four steps, include: understanding the problem, devising a plan, carring out the plan, and looking back. Based on the research, the application of problem-solving approach, as Polya underlines, is effective to improve the student learning achievement in square and rectangularobjects. It is proved by the result of student learning achievement, which is from 58,33% to 88,89%. Key Words:Polya’s problem solving approach, square and rectangular, student learning achievement.

Abstract

Abstract. A total edge irregular labeling on a graph G which has |E| edges and |V| vertices is an assignment of positive integer number as labels to both vertices and edges so that the weights calculated at every edges are distinct. The weight of an edge xy in G is defined as the sum of the label of xy and the labels of two vertices x and y, that is w(xy) = (x)+ (xy)+ (y). The total edge irregularity strength of G, denoted by tes(G), is the smallest positive integer k for which G has an edge-irregular total k-labelling. In this paper, we determine the exact value of the total edge (vertex) irregularity strength of Coconut Sprout Graph (CRn,m) and the union of isomorphic and non-isomorphic Coconut Sprout Graph. Key Words : total edge irregular labeling, total edge irregularity strength, coconut sprout graph.

Abstract

Abstract. The research aims to describe the students’ thinking process of 9th grade of Junior High School in solving the open problem according to their capability in solving problem based on Polya’s solution step. Data analysis is done based on written test and interview techniques. The subject of research is students of IXA class at SMPN 7 Jember in odd semester academic year 2013-2014. The data of research are obtained by validation sheet, written test, and interview techniques. Students experience disequilibrium when they don’t understand about the qestion’s sentence and when she can’t determine the ways to solve the problem, also when she can’t determine the ways to check the result that has already gotten when she does the plans. Students experience assimilation when they can mention what is known and what is asked  from the problems immediately without reck of true or false, also when  they can determine the ways to solve the problems and when they are doing the computations. Students experience accomodation when they are quiet and confuse before they can determine the problem’s condition, also when she is doing the computation and when she is quite before she can determine the ways to solve the problem. Students experience assimilation and accomodation to reach the equilibrium phase. Key Words: thinking process, open problem, and Polya’s solution step.

Abstract

Abstract. A Wind turbine is a wind energy converters tool into electrical energy. To optimize the electrical energy converted, it needs for further research on wind turbine process. In this research, the analysis part of wind turbine is rotor, which is the contacted part to the wind. Type of wind turbine that will be analyzed in this study is HAWT (Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine) type because this model is the most often used type and can produce great electrical energy. This research construct a model of the air flow field form of wind turbine rotor and solve these problems by using the finite volume method. Model simulation process will be done by using MATLAB and FLUENT software. The analysis was performed with the variation initial velocity level of wind. It is 3 m/s, 5 m/s, and 7 m/s. The simulation results showed that the velocity of rotation wind turbine rotor blade higher when the initial wind velocity increases. Beside that, the result is when the initial wind velocity of 7 m/s and 5 m/s, the velocity of rotation wind turbine rotor blade tend to be more stable. With 5 m/s of wind velocity to wind turbine rotor, The difference between an average direct calculation and a SOR iterative calculation is obtained the value of relative error less than 0.1%. it is 0.079%. So the finite volume method of numerical methods is effective to solve this problem. Key Words : Electrical Energy, Finite Volume Method, Velocity, Wind Turbine,.
