Abstract

Research aims: This study aims to explore the relationship between self-directed learning, relevant work experience, and digital freelancers' performance in Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia and Malaysia, by considering the role of intrinsic motivation as a moderating variable.Design/Methodology/Approach: The study was conducted in two countries, Indonesia and Malaysia, involving 235 freelance respondents from various digital fields. Data were analyzed using SEM-PLS.Research findings: The results indicate that relevant experience is an important bridge between self-learning and work performance. Interestingly, intrinsic motivation does not act as a reinforcement of this relationship.Theoretical Contribution/Originality: The present study expands theoretical understanding of how work competencies are formed in the gig economy ecosystem, as well as how internal motivation needs to be viewed more contextually through self-determination theory (SDT) framework.Practitioners/Policy Implications: These findings reinforce the urgency of developing individual learning capacity and creating a support ecosystem, especially in a country like Indonesia that still lacks formal regulation and protection for freelancers, compared to Malaysia, which has been more progressive in recognizing and supporting the role of freelancers in the digital economy.Research Limitations/Implications: As the approach used is quantitative and cross-sectional, the data only shows conditions at a certain point in time. Future longitudinal studies are recommended to capture changes in behavior and performance in more depth over time.
The Relationship Between Strategic Management Implementation and Decision-Making Style in Enhancing Employee Satisfaction: Evidence from Islamic Cooperatives

Abstract

Research aims: This study aims to examine how strategic management implementation and decision-making styles contribute to employee satisfaction, with a specific focus on Islamic cooperatives. The study also explores the mediating role of organizational performance in this relationship.Design/Methodology/Approach: The research employs a quantitative approach using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS 4. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 124 employees of Islamic cooperatives, with 95 valid responses analyzed.Research Findings: The results indicate that strategic management does not directly affect employee satisfaction but exerts a significant indirect influence through organizational performance. Furthermore, among the various decision-making styles analyzed, only the dependent style showed a significant indirect effect on employee satisfaction through organizational performance.Theoretical Contribution/Originality: Grounded in dynamic capabilities theory, the study contributes to the literature by highlighting how strategic agility and inclusive decision-making, when aligned with Islamic values, enhance organizational outcomes and employee well-being. Moreover, the study introduces an integrated model linking strategic execution, decision behavior, and performance within the context of Islamic cooperatives.Practitioners/Policy Implications: The findings underline the importance for Islamic cooperative leaders to align strategic management practices with maqasid sharia principles and to adopt consultative decision styles that foster organizational trust, agility, and employee satisfaction.Research Limitations/Implications: The study is limited to a specific organizational context (Islamic cooperatives) and a relatively small sample size, which may affect generalizability. Future research could explore different cooperative models or apply a longitudinal approach.

Abstract

Research aims: This study investigates how work–family conflict, job stress, and social support interact to shape women’s work–life balance in the Indonesian banking sector. It contributes to the work–life literature by recontextualizing classical stress and role theories within a gendered, post-pandemic professional setting in a developing economy.Design/Methodology/Approach: This study distributes a structured questionnaire 197 female professionals across multiple banking institutions, and the data is analyzed using PLS-SEM.Research findings: The findings reveal that while work–family conflict does not directly reduce work-life balance, it significantly elevates job stress, which in turn diminishes perceived balance. Social support mitigates the negative impact of stress but does not attenuate the effects of conflict itself.Theoretical Contribution/Originality: This study extends the theory of conservation of resources (COR), role theory, as well as the job demands–resources (JD-R) model by proposing a moderated mediation framework in which job stress mediates the relationship between work–family conflict and work–life balance, while social support serves as a conditional buffer.Practitioners/Policy Implications: These insights advance theoretical understanding and provide actionable insights for designing gender-responsive human resource policies and systems in high-pressure service sectors.Research Limitations/Implications: Future studies should integrate variables such as digital surveillance, algorithmic task allocation, and technostress to capture the impact of new and emerging technologies on work–life dynamics, particularly for women.
The Impact of Green Knowledge and Servant Leadership on Green Innovation through Green Self-Efficacy in Toba Caldera Geopark

Abstract

Research Aims: This study explores the contribution of green knowledge and servant leadership to green innovation, with green self-efficacy acting as a mediating variable, within the context of hospitality enterprises in the Toba Caldera Geopark region. It aims to examine how green self-efficacy mediates the relationship between green knowledge, servant leadership, and green innovation, addressing an empirical gap in geotourism-related studies in Indonesia.Design/Methodology/Approach: A quantitative approach was employed, with data collected from 80 hospitality employees operating in the Toba Caldera Toba Caldera Geopark area using structured questionnaires. The relationships among the variables were analyzed using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM).Research Findings: The findings show that both green knowledge and servant leadership significantly and positively influence green self-efficacy. Furthermore, green self-efficacy is confirmed as a significant mediator in the relationship with green innovation. The indirect effects mediated by self-efficacy were found to be stronger than the direct effects, emphasizing the role of psychological confidence in fostering employee-driven innovation.Theoretical Contribution/Originality: This study contributes to the literature on sustainable hospitality management by highlighting the role of self-efficacy in green innovation models. It also expands the understanding of how green knowledge and servant leadership interact to promote environmentally friendly behavior in hospitality enterprises.Practical Implications: The study underscores the need for hotel management to enhance environmental training programs and adopt a servant leadership style that encourages green initiatives. It provides practical strategies for improving sustainability efforts in hospitality businesses, especially in geotourism destinations.Research Limitations/Implications: The study is limited by its geographic focus on the Toba Caldera Geopark region, and its findings may not be directly applicable to other regions or sectors. Future research with a broader sample and across diverse geotourism contexts is needed to generalize the results.
