Abstract

Subjek penelitian ini adalah orang-orang yang berasal dari Desa Kusamba, Klungkung, Bali. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 42 orang. Subjek diambil berdasarkan teknik purposive sampling. Orang-orang yang menjadi subjek dalam penelitian ini memiliki karakteristik mampu menggunakan Dialek Kusamba dengan baik. Data dikumpulkan berdasarkan tiga domain yang berbeda yaitu, domain keluarga, domain pertemanan, dan domain tetangga. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yang mendeskripsikan sistem fonologi Bahasa Bali Dialek Kusamba. Data dianalisis menggunakan teori Milles dan Huberman. Data-data dikumpulkan melalui teknik observasi dan teknik perekaman. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah (1) ada 24 fonem yang ditemukan pada Dialek Kusamba. Fonem-fonem tersebut adalah /ʌ/, /i/, /u/, /e/, /o/, /ǝ/, /b/, /c/, /d/, /g/, /h/, /j/, /k/, /l/, /m/, /n/, /p/, /r/, /s/, /t/, /w/, /y/, /ŋ/, and /ñ/, (2) ada 6 geminate yang ditemukan pada Dialek Kusamba yaitu: /ʌʌ/, /əə/, /oo/, /ii/, /ee/, dan /uu/, (3) ada 10 konsonan kluster yang ditemukan pada Dialek Kusamba, yaitu: /kl/, /pl/, /ml/, /kr/, /bl/, /tr/, /br/, /pr/, /cr/, dan /gr/Kata Kunci : sistem fonologi, dialek kusamba, Fonem The subjects of this study were the people of Kusamba village, Klungkung Bali. The samples of this study were 42 people. The subjects were taken through purposive sampling technique. They who became the subject of this study had characteristic that they could use Kusamba dialect greatly. The data were collected in three different domains i.e., family domain, friendship domain, and neighborhood domain. This kind of research was qualitative descriptive study that describes Kusamba Balinese phonological system. The data were analyzed by using Miles and Huberman, (1984) theory.The data was gathered by conducting observation technique and recording technique. The result of this research were (1) there were 24 phonemes found in Kusamba dialect. Abstract

Penelitian ini dirancang dalam bentuk kualitatif deskriptif yang memiliki karakteristik sinkronis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan jumlah fonem yang ada di Dialek Taro dan distribusinya. Penelitian ini difokuskan hanya pada fonem segmental pada Taro Dialek. Tiga informan dari Taro Dialek dipilih berdasarkan standar persyaratan dan kriteria yang telah ditentukan. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan tiga daftar kata yaitu: daftar kata Swadesh, Nothofer, dan Holle. Data dianalisis dan ditampilkan secara deskriptif. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Taro Dialek memiliki 44 fonem dan tidak semua fonem memiliki distribusi yang lengkap (posisi awal, tengah, dan akhir). Fonem yang ditemukan dapat diklasifikasikan menjadi: enam vokal; /ʌ/, /i/, /u/, /ɛ/, /ɔ/, dan /ə/, sembilan belas konsonan; /b/, /c/, /d/, /g/, /h/, /j/, /ʔ/, /k/, / l/, /m/, /n/, /p/, /r/, /s/, /t/, /w/, /y /, /ŋ/, dan /ñ/, tujuh konsonan kluster; /kl/, /bl/, /ml/, /kr/, /pr/, /ŋr/, dan /tr/,, tujuh diftong; /ʌu:/, /ʌɛ/, /ɪʌ/, /ʌɪ/, /ɪu:/, /ʊə/, and /ʊʌ/ dan, 5 geminates; /ʌʌ/, /ɪɪ/, /ʊʊ/, /ɒɒ/, and /əə/.Kata Kunci : kualitatif, sinkronis, fonologi, fonem segmental, fonem This study was designed in form of descriptive qualitative study which has synchronic characteristics. This study aimed at describing the number of phonemes exist in of Taro Dialect and its distribution. This study focused only on the segmental phonemes in Taro Dialect. Three informants of Taro Dialect were chosen based on the requirement standard and criteria. The data were collected based on three word lists, namely: Swadesh, Nothofer, and Holle word list and the obtained data were analyzed and displayed descriptively. As the result of this study, it shows that Taro Dialect has 44 phonemes and not all of those phonemes have complete distribution (initial, middle, final position). The phonemes could be classified into: six vowels; /ʌ/, /i/, /u/, /ɛ/, /ɔ/, and /ə/, nineteen consonants; /b/, /c/, /d/, /g/, /h/, /j/, /ʔ/, /k/, / l/, /m/, /n/, /p/, /r/, /s/, /t/, /w/, /y /, /ŋ/, and /ñ/, seven consonant clusters; /kl/, /bl/, /ml/, /kr/, /pr/, /ŋr/, and /tr/, seven diphthongs; /ʌu:/, /ʌɛ/, /ɪʌ/, /ʌɪ/, /ɪu:/, /ʊə/, and /ʊʌ/ and, 5 geminates; /ʌʌ/, /ɪɪ/, /ʊʊ/, /ɒɒ/, and /əə/.keyword : qualitative, synchronic, phonology, segmental phoneme, phoneme.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) untuk mendapatkan materi berbicara bahasa Inggris untuk pelajaran layanan makanan dan minuman yang digunakan oleh siswa kelas X di SMK Nusa Dua Sawan dan (2) untuk melengkapi materi berbicara bahasa Inggris untuk pelajaran layanan makanan dan minuman yang digunakan oleh siswa kelas X di SMK Nusa Dua Sawan. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian dan pengembangan yang diadaptasi dari Ellis dan Levy (2008). Ada lima langkah yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini diantaranya, mengidentifikasi permasalahan, mendeskripsika tujuan, merancang produk, mengembangkan produk, menguji dan mengevaluasi produk. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dalam penelitian ini adalah kuesioner siswa, pedoman wawancara, silabus, dan kuesioner penilaian ahli. Hasil dari kuesioner siswa dan wawancara guru menunjukkan bahwa buku ajar yang digunakan pada mata pelajaran layanan makanan dan minuman tidak dilengkapi dengan materi berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris. Berdasarkan hasil analisis kebutuhan, ada lima unit yang dikembangkan. Unit 1 adalah tentang menyambut tamu dan penanganan reservasi. Selanjutnya, materi mengantar dan memersilahkan tamu duduk tamu dibahas di Unit 2. Unit 3 fokus pada materi mengenai cara menjelaskan menu untuk tamu. Unit 4 mencakup cara untuk mengambil pesanan makanan dan minuman. Sementara itu, Unit 5 berisi ekspresi untuk memberikan rekomendasi dan menanggapi pertanyaan para tamu tentang menu. Kata Kunci : Buku pelajaran, Kemampuan berbicara, Layanan makan dan minuman, Pengembangan materi The objectives of the study were: (1) to find out speaking materials for English for food and beverage service used by tenth grade students at SMK Nusa Dua Sawan and (2) to supplement speaking materials for English for food and beverage service used by tenth grade students at SMK Nusa Dua Sawan. The type of this study was research and development which was adapted from Ellis and Levy (2008). There were five steps used in this study including, Identify problems, describe objectives, design artifact, develop artifact, and test and evaluate artifact. The instruments used to collect the data in this study were students’ questionnaire, interview guidelines, syllabus, and expert judgment questionnaire. The result of students’ questionnaire and interview indicate that the textbook used in food and beverage service subject is not completed with speaking materials in English. Based on the result of the needs analysis, there are five units developed. Unit 1 is about welcoming and handling reservation. Furthermore, escorting and seating guests is discussed in Unit 2. Unit 3 mainly concerns with how to explain the menu to guests. Unit 4 covers the way to take food and beverage orders. Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengembangkan materi berbicara untuk mata pelajaran “front office” yang digunakan oleh kelas X di SMK Nusa Dua Sawan. Buku yang telah dikembangkan memiliki materi berbicara yang berdasar pada silabus yang dimiliki oleh SMK Nusa Dua Sawan. Disamping itu beberapa materi berbicara diambil dari situasi nyata di hotel guna menyiapkan materi berbicara yang mencerminkan apa yang siswa hadapi di dunia nyata guna menyiapkan siswa untuk bekerja nantinya. Penelitian ini terfokus pada kemampuan berbicara karena berdasarkan penelitian awal, boku yang dimiliki obeh guru tidak terdiri dari materi berbicara. Penelitian ini mengadopsi model Dick & Carey (2005). Berdasarkan Dick & Carey (2005) ada 10 (sepuluh) tahapan dalam mengembangkan produk, namun penelitian ini hanya menggunakan 7 (tujuh) tahapan tersebut yaitu mengidentifikasi tujuan, melakukan analisis gagasan, menganalisis pelajar dan keadaan, mengembangkan model buku, mengembangkan buku, mengembangkan dan melakukan penilaian formatif, dan merevisi buku. Tahapan – tahapan itu dikelompokkan menjadi 3 prosedur penelitian yaitu analisis kebutuhan, pengembangan produk, dan penilaian. Dalam mengumpulkan data, penelitian ini menggunakan beberapa instrument seperti observasi, angket, analisis silabus, dan catatan. Setelang mengumpulkan data, peneliti mulai membuat produk. Produk yang telah dikembangkan diuji ahli oleh para ahli guna mengetahui kualitas dari produk yang telah dibuat. Menurut ahli, buku yang telah dikembangkan digolongkan sebagai buku yang sangat baik. Kata Kunci : front office, materi berbicara, kebutuhan siswa, silabus, buku This study was conducted to develop the speaking materials for front office subject that was used for the Tenth Grade Students in SMK Nusa Dua Sawan. The textbook consisted of speaking materials developed based on the syllabus that the school had. Besides that, some materials were also taken from authentic materials used by front office department in the hotels. T he speaking materials that was presented reflected the real situation in the hotel thus, the students will be more ready to work in their workplace later on. This study was focused on speaking materials because according to preliminary observation, the textbook that the teachers used in the school was not consisted of speaking materials. This study adapted research and development design proposed by Dick, Carey & Carey model (2005). According to Dick, Carey and Carey (2005) there are 10 stages in developing an educational product, meanwhile this study only used 7 stages, namely: Identify the instructional goal, conduct instruct analysis, analyze learners and contact, develop design of the textbook, develop the textbook, develop and conduct formative evaluation, and revise the textbook. The seventh stages were categorized into 3 procedures namely: need analysis, product development and evaluation. In collecting the data, the researcher used several instruments, such as observation, questionnaire, syllabus analysis, and note. After collecting the need in the need analysis step, the researcher started to develop the product. The product that was made was evaluated by the expert judgments in order to know the quality of the textbook. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan sebuah buku teks tentang kemampuan mendengarkan untuk mata pelajaran kantor depan. Subyek dari penelitian ini adalah murid kelas sepuluh SMK Nusa Dua Sawan. Berdasarkan observasi, ditemukan bahwa guru menggunakan buku yang tidak sesuai dengan siswa, karena buku yang digunakan tentang kantor depan secara umum dan tidak mengandung materi mandengarkan. Untuk materi kemampuan mendengarkan, guru mencoba mencari materi di internet. Sekolah tidak memiliki materi mendengarkan yang baik an pasti. Penelitian ini mengadaptasi Dick, Carey and Carey (2005) sebagai maodel. Model yang diadaptasi ini terdiri dari sepuluh langkah, yaitu mengidentifikasi tujuan instruksional, melakukan analisis instruksional, analisis peserta didik dan konteks, tujuan kinerja menulis, mengembangkan instruksi penilaian, mengembangkan desain buku teks, mengembangkan bahan buku teks, merancang dan melakukan evaluasi formatif untuk buku pelajaran, merevisi buku pelajaran, dan produk akhir. Penelitian ini dikatakan sukses apabila penilaian ahli menunjukkan nilai minimal kisaran 3.43-4.23 (baik).Kata Kunci : Buku pelajaran, Kemampuan mendengarkan, Kantor depan, Pengembangan materi This study aimed in developing a textbook of listening skill for front office subject. The subject of this study was tenth grade students of SMK Nusa Dua Sawan. Based on the observation, it was found that the teacher used a book which is not really appropriate with students, because, the book used was general book about front office and does not consist of listening material. For the listening material, the teacher found out the material on the internet. They do not have the good and a definite material for the listening skill.This study adapted research and development design proposed by Dick, Carey and Carey in 2005. The adapted design consisted of ten stages: (1) identifying the instructional goals, (2) conducting the instructional analysis, (3) analysis of learners and context, (4) writing performance objectives, (5) developing assessment instruction, (6) developing design of the textbook, (7) developing the materials of the textbook, (8) designing and conducting formative evaluation for the textbook, (9) revising the textbook, and (10) the final product. The research was considered as a successful study if results of experts’ judgment show a score at least in an interval 3.43-4.23(good).keyword : Textbook, Listening Skill, Front Office, Material Development

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis dan mendeskripsikan jenis-jenis dan penyebab dari kesalahan-kesalahan tata bahasa yang dibuat oleh siswa kelas X di SMA Negeri 2 Banjar dalam menulis recount teks, tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah 31 siswa kelas X di SMA Negeri 2 Banjar. Objek dari penelitian ini adalah kesalahan-kesalahan yang dibuat oleh siswa kelas X di SMA Negeri 2 Banjar serta penyebab dari kesalahan-kesalahan tersebut. Berdasarkan temuan, terdapat 327 kesalahan yang ditemukan pada recount teks siswa. Dari 327 kesalahan yang dibuat oleh siswa, terdapat 129 or 39.45% kesalahan dalam bentuk omission, 32 atau 9.78% dalam bentuk addition, 147 atau 44.96% dalam bentuk misformation, dan 19 atau 5.81% dalam bentuk misordering. Disamping itu, kesalahan-kesalahan siswa tersebut disebabkan oleh carelessness, first language interference, dan translation. Dari 327 kesalahan tersebut, 171 atau 52.29%kesalahan disebabkan oleh carelessness, 62 atau 18.96% kesalahan disebabkan oleh first language interference, dan 94 atau 28.75% kesalahan disebabkan oleh translation.Kata Kunci : kesalahan, penyebab-penyebab kesalahan, tulisan, recount teks The purpose of this research was to analyze and describe the types and causes of the grammatical errors committed by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Banjar in writing recount texts, in academic year 2015/2016. This research was a qualitative study. The subjects of this research were 31 tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Banjar, in academic year 2015/2016. The objects of this research were the errors and causes of the errors made by the students. Based on the findings, there were 327 errors found in the students’ recount texts. Out of 327 errors committed by the students, there were 129 or 39.45% errors in the form of omission, 32 or 9.78% errors in the form of addition, 147 or 44.96% in the form of misformation, and 19 or 5.81% errors in the form of misordering. Besides, it was also found that the errors committed by the students were caused by carelessness, first language interference, and translation. Out of 327 errors committed by the students, there were 171 or 52.29% errors caused by carelessness, 62 or 18.96% errors caused by first language interference, and 94 or 28.75% errors caused by translation.keyword : error, causes of error, writing, recount text

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kategori interaksi kelas yang muncul di kelas 8 SMP Negeri 2 Singaraja berdasarkan Foreign Language Interaction Analysis (FLINT) System, dan pengaruh dari interaksi kelas di antara guru dan murid terhadap pencapaian siswa. Subyek penelitian adalah seorang guru dan 37 siswa kelas VIII 14; 19 orang laki-laki dan 18 orang perempuan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif yang dalam bentuk observasi tanpa partisipasi. Data yang terkumpul adalah ucapan yang dikatakan oleh guru dan siswa serta tingkah laku selama proses belajar-mengajar. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa : (1) kategori deals with feeling muncul 9 kali, kategori praises or encourages muncul 35 kali, kategori jokes muncul 5 kali, kategori uses idea of students muncul 10 kali, kategori repeats student response verbatim muncul 33 kali, kategori asks question muncul 81 kali, kategori gives information muncul 58 kali, kategori corrects without rejection muncul 16 kali, kategori gives direction muncul 12 kali, kategori criticizes student behavior muncul 3 kali, kategori criticizes student response muncul 10 kali, kategori student response-specific muncul 123 kali, kategori student response open-ended or student-initiated muncul 106 kali, kategori silence muncul 14 kali, kategori silence-audiovisual (AV) tidak muncul, kategori confusion work oriented muncul 10 kali, kategori confusion non work-oriented muncul 6 kali, kategori laughter muncul 8 kali, kategori uses the native language muncul 232 kali, dan kategori nonverbal muncul 15 kali; (2) interaksi cenderung bersifat dialogis; (3) dampak dari interaksi kelas terhadap pencapaian siswa adalah signifikan karena terdapat kenaikan dari pencapaian siswa yang terukur oleh guru.Kata Kunci : interaction, classroom interaction, Foreign Language Interaction Analysis (FLINT) System The study aimed at analyzing the classroom interaction category occurred at eight grade of SMP Negeri 2 Singaraja based on Foreign Language Interaction Analysis (FLINT) System, and the impact of classroom interaction between teacher and students towards students’ achievement. The subjects of the study were a teacher and 37 students of VIII 14 class; 19 were male and 18 were female. This study employed qualitative approach in the form of nonparticipant observation. The data gathered was the utterances produced by the teacher and the students as well as the behavior during teaching-learning process. The result of the study showed that: (1) deals with feeling occurred 9 times, praises or encourages occurred 35 times, jokes occurred 5 times, uses idea of students occurred 10 times, repeats student response verbatim occurred 33 times, asks question occurred 81 times, gives information occurred 58 times, corrects without rejection occurred 16 times, gives direction occurred 12 times, criticizes student behavior occurred 3 times, criticizes student response occurred 10 times, student response-specific occurred 123 times, student response open-ended or student-initiated occurred 106 times, silence occurred 14 times, silence-audiovisual (AV) did not occur, confusion work oriented occurred 10 times, confusion non work-oriented occurred 6 times, laughter occurred 8 times, uses the native language occurred 232 times, and nonverbal occurred 15 times; (2) the interaction tended to be dialogic; (3) the impact of classroom interaction towards students’ achievement was significant as there was an increase of students achievement measured by the teacher.keyword : interaction, classroom interaction, Foreign Language Interaction Analysis (FLINT) System

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengembangkan buku pelajaran tentang kemampuan listening untuk pelajaran layanan makanan dan minuman, terutama untuk siswa kelas X sekolah menengah kejuruan (SMK). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melengkapi bahan materi mendengarkan untuk pelajaran layanan makanan dan minuman untuk kelas X di SMK Nusa Dua Sawan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian dan pengambangan dari Gall and Borg (2003) dan Masuhara (di Tomlinson 1998) sebagai model. Ada lima prosedur dalam pengembangan produk dari Gall and Borg yaitu: 1) analisa kebutuhan, 2) merancang produk, 3) mengambangkan produk, 4) penilaian produk, 5) memperbaiki dan menulis produk akhir. Kemudian, penelitian ini menggunakan instrument untuk mengumpulkan data dengan wawancara, kuesioner, dan analisa silabus. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan buku pelajaran mendengarkan untuk pelajaran pelayanan makanan dan minuman diperlukan dan baik untuk siswa sekolah menengah kejuruan terutama kelas X. Kualitas buku ini dinilai oleh ahli dan buku ini sesuai untuk pelajaran pelayanan makanan dan minuman dan sesuai dengan silabus yang digunakan di sekolah. Kata Kunci : Buku Pelajaran, kemampuan mendengarkan, Layanan Makanan dan Minuman, Pengembangan Materi This research was conducted to develop a textbook of listening skill for food and beverage service subject, especially tenth grade students of vocational high school. The purposes of this research were to compile the items of listening material for the food and beverage service department and to provide a textbook for listening of the food and beverage service department at tenth grade students at SMK Nusa Dua Sawan. The method in this research is Research and Development modified by Gall and Borg (2003) and Masuhara (in Tomlinson, 1998) as model. There are five procedures in developing product by Masuhara, those were: 1) conducting need analysis, 2) designing the product, 3) developing product, 4) evaluating product, 5) revising and writing final product. Then, this research used some instruments to collect the data such as interview, questionnaire and syllabus analysis. The result of this research showed that listening textbook for food and beverage service was needed and good for student in vocational high school, especially tenth grade students. The quality of this textbook was judged by the expert and the textbook were appropriate textbook for food and beverage service students and it was appropriate with the syllabus used in the school. keyword : Textbook, Listening Skill, Tenth Grade, Food and Beverage Service, Material Development

Abstract

This research was a research and development study which aimed at developing a local culture-based picture storybook entitled “Siap Selem”. Balinese local culture used is in a form of fable. It applied a framework proposed by Sugiono (2014). The data were collected from observation, interview and literature review in designing the product. The results are the picture storybook entitled “Siap Selem” obtains content validity (cv = 0.88), categorized as very high, while the quality is judged excellent with score 4.57, which each of the result was analyzed by using Gregory Formula and Likert Scale. Thus, it can be stated that the picture storybook developed is expected to be an appropriate supplementary reading for pleasure material for teaching English for TEYL (Teaching English to Young Learners).Kata Kunci : young learners, local culture, reading for pleasure, story, fable, picture book Penelitian ini merupakan studi penelitian dan pengembangan yang bertujuan untuk mengembangkan buku cerita bergambar yang berjudul “Siap Selem”. Budaya lokal yang digunanakan adalah Bali dalam bentuk fabel. Dalam mengembangkan buku cerita bergambar digunakan kerangka penelitian dan pengembangkan yang dikemukakan oleh Sugiyono (2014). Data yang berupa observasi, interview, dan kajian pustaka digunakan dalam membuat produk penelitian. Hasil penelitian adalah validasi isi (cv = 0.88) tergolong sangat tinggi, sedangkan qualitas dinilai sangat baik dengan nilai 4.57, dimana setiap hasil tersebut dianalisa dengan menggunakan Gregory Formula dan skala Likert. Jadi, dapat dinyatakan bahwa buku bergambar yang dikembangkan, diharapkan sesuai untuk pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris sebagai materi tambahan membaca untuk kesenangan dalam TEYL.keyword : Pelajar muda, budaya lokal, membaca untuk kesenangan, buku cerita, fael, buku bergambar

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi apakah ada pengaruh yang signifikan dari teknik “Circle the Sage” terhadap prestasi membaca siswa. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X SMA N 1 Sukasada. Berdasarkan teknik pengambilan sampel secara acak, 2 kelas diambil sebagai sampel dari penelitian ini. Dua kelas tersebut ditentukan sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol berdasarkan undian. Untuk memperoleh data yang diperlukan, dua kelompok tersebut diberikan perlakuan. Kelompok eksperimen diajarkan menggunakan teknik Circle the Sage, sedangkan kelompok kontrol diajarkan menggunakan teknik konvensional (teknik Three-phase). Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dalam penelitian ini adalah skenario pembelajaran dan post-test dalam bentuk tes membaca. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisa secara deskriptif dan inferensial. Dilihat dari hasil statistik inferensial, menunjukan bahwa t-observed melampaui t-critical value. Oleh karena itu, null hypothesis ditolak, yang berarti bahwa ada pengaruh yang signifikan pada prestasi membaca siswa yang diajarkan menggunakan teknik Circle the Sage.Kata Kunci : Prestasi membaca, Circle the Sage, Konvensional This study aimed at investigating whether or not there was any significant effect of Circle the Sage technique on student’s reading achievement. The population of this study was the tenth grade students in SMA N 1 Sukasada. Through random sampling technique, two classes were taken as samples in this study. They were assigned as experimental group and control group by lottery. To obtain the required data, the two groups were given treatments. The experimental group was taught by using Circle the Sage technique, meanwhile the control group was taught by using conventional technique (Three-phase technique). The instruments used in this study to collect the data were the teaching scenario and post-test in the form of reading test. The obtained data were then analyzed descriptively and inferentially. It was seen from the result of inferential statistics, showing that the t-observed exceeded the t-critical value. Hence, the null hypothesis was rejected, which means there was significant effect on students’ reading achievement who were taught by Circle the Sage.keyword : Reading Achievement, Circle the Sage, Conventional
