Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian Ex-post facto Korelasi yang bertujuan untuk menguji ada tidaknya kontibusi signifikan dari perbandingan prestasi belajar bahasa inggris siswa laki-laki dan perempuan terhadap gaya belajar pada siswa kelas delapan sekolah menengah pertama laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja semester dua pada tahun akademik 2013/2014. Jumlah populasi 30 siswa dan jumlah sampel sebesar 15 siswa laki laki dan 15 siswa perempuan. Sampel penelitian dilakukan melalui teknik proportional random sampling. Data gaya belajar siswa diperoleh dari PLSPQ (Reid,1984) dan untuk prestasi bahasa inggris siswa diperoleh dari dokumentasi yaitu nilai raport siswa. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan inferential. Statistik deskriptif digunakan untuk menggambarkan data variabel yang diperoleh dan statistik inferensial digunakan untuk uji hipotesis. Abstract

This study aimed at developing a character-based English textbook for grade VIII of junior high school based on the curriculum 2013. It is categorized as a research and development study in which the product of the study was developed based on the modified instructional design of Dick, Carey, and Carey (2001), consisting of identifying the instructional goal, conducting instructional analysis, analyzing learners and context, writing performance objectives and indicators, developing judgment instrument, developing design of the textbook, developing content of the textbook, conducting formative evaluation, revising the textbook, limited field trial, and the final product. This research involved 32 students of class VIII.B6 of SMP N 6 Singaraja as the subjects and 2 experts as judges, i.e. a lecturer who is expert in materials development and an English teacher. The result of this study shows that the character values are accommodated in terms of content and presentation. The total mean score of the textbook’s content and presentation is 4.74 (Excellent) and the Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient reliability is 0.880 (Good). Besides, the result of the questionnaire after the limited field trial indicates that the students were interested and happy in using the developed textbook. In addition, based on the curriculum 2013, due to the implementation of scientific approach, the approach is presented in terms of the presentation of the textbook. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis imbuhan pembentuk kata kerja yang mengalami perubahan secara morfofonemik pada dialek Bahasa Bali Cempaga. Penelitian ini merupakan analisis bahasa deskriptif. Enam narasumber di pilih berdasarkan kriteria tertentu. Alat-alat yang digunakan yaitu: peneliti, 2 daftar kata yaitu: Swadesh dan Northofer, dan daftar kalimat. Data di kumpulkan melalui rekaman percakapan, daftar kata, dan daftar kalimat. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Awalan {N-} memiliki 4 anggota morpheme yaitu: ŋ-|, |ñ-|, |n-| dan |m-|. Pembentukan kata kerja yang melibatkan prefix {ma-} menghasilkan perubahan secara morfofonemik ketika ditambahkan dengan kata yang berawalan dengan /u/, /i/, and /e/.Pembentukan kata kerja yang melibatkan suffix {-aŋ} menghasilkan perubahan secara morfofonemik. Phoneme /h/ dilesapkan, sementara kombinasi dari // dan /ʌ/ menghasilkan phoneme /ɔ/. Pembentukan kata kerja yang melibatkan suffix {-a} menghasilkan perubahan secara morfofonemik. Suffix {-a} membentuk kata kerja ketika ditambahkan dengan kata yang berakhiran /t/, /r/, /s/, kata yang berakhiran dengan /ʌ/ berubah menjadi /ɔ/. Pembentukan kata kerja oleh awalan dibentuk dengan penambahan kata kerja dan kata benda pada dialek Bahasa Bali Cempaga, sedangkan pembentukan kata kerja oleh akhiran dibentuk dengan penambahan kata kerja, kata benda, dan kata sifat. Makna dari awalan ketika ditambahkan dengan kata dasar tertentu yaitu: 1).mengerjakan sesuatu dengan menggunakan alat, 2).Menyatakan sebuah perbuatan yang berhubungan dengan kata dasar. Makna dari akhiran ketika ditambahkan dengan kata dasar tertentu yaitu: 1).menyatakan sebuah perbuatan yang dilakukan untuk orang lain, 2).Meminta untuk merubah posisi seseorang dan benda yang berhubungan dengan kata dasar. Kata Kunci : Afiksasi, Morfofonemik, Imbuhan, Kata kerja. This study aimed at finding out the verb- forming affixation that involves morphophonemic changes in Cempaga Dialect of Balinese. This study was designed in a descriptive qualitative research. There were six informants chosen based on a set of criteria. The instruments used were the researcher, two word lists namely: Swadesh and Northofer, and sentence lists. The data collected through the record of conversation, word lists, and sentence lists. Prefix {N-} has four allomorphs namely: |ŋ-|, |ñ-|, |n-| and |m-|. The verb- forming process that involves the prefix {ma-} results in a morphophonemic change when it is added to the bases which have the initial vowels /u/, /i/, and /e/. The verb- forming process that involves the suffix {-aŋ} results the morphophonemic changes. Phoneme /h/ was omitted, meanwhile the combination between // and /ʌ/ results /ɔ/. Suffix {-a} forms a verb when it is added to the bases ended by /t/, /r/, /s/, /ʌ/ in the base is changed into /ɔ/. The verb- forming process that involves the prefixes is formed by adding verbs and nouns. The verb- forming process that involves the suffixes is formed by adding verbs, nouns, and adjective. The semantic contents of the prefixes when they are added to the particular bases are: 1). doing something with some tools, 2). stating an action that is related to the bases. The semantic contents of suffixes when they are added to the particular bases are: 1). Stating an action that is done for others, 2). Abstract

IMPROVING ENGLISH LANGUAGE COMPETENCY OF THE STUDENTS OF CLASS VIII A.4 AT SMP NEGERI 1 SINGARAJA BY USING SCIENTIFIC APPROACH BASED ON CURRICULUM 2013 Abstract The study was conducted in order : 1.to improve the students English language competency by using a scientific approach at class VIII A.4 SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja; 2.to find out the students’ responses towards the implementation of scientific approach in teaching English language at class VIII.A 4 SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja. It involved 27 students as the subjects. It was conducted in a classroom action research design. Pre-test and pre-classroom observations were carried out before conducting the cyclic process. The classroom action was carried out covering five topics for five sessions. After the action was conducted, in only one cycle, the next cycle is observation consisting of: test, questionnaire, teaching learning process observation was done in particular to check the students’ attitudes and communicative ability. The data collection which belonged to the observation stage was conducted by using test, questionnaire, teaching learning process observation. The data were analyzed descriptively. The results of the study indicated that (1) the implementation of the scientific approach could improve successfully the students’ English language competency from 76.33 to 91.70 (cycle one) exceeded the passing grade. This finding is supported by the improvement of the students’ attitude quality, as well as the students’ positive responses towards the implementation of the scientific approach. Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan yang berhubungan dengan pendidikan yang bertujuan untuk mengembangkan rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran yang berlandaskan karakter kepada siswa-siswi kelas VII (tujuh) SMP (sekolah menengah pertama) yang berdasar pada Kurikulum 2013 (implementasi Kurikulum 2013). Adapun langkah-langkah penelitian yang digunakan agar dapat mencapai tujuan dari penelitian ini, langkah 1 (penentuan masalah), langkah 2 (membuat desain), langkah 3 (pengembangan). Selain itu, terdapat pula 5 instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yakni rubrik penilaian, lembar ahli, kuisioner, pedoman wawancara, dan daftar pengawasan. Dalam penelitian ini, data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara descriptive kualitatif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ditemukan bahwa rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran berlandaskan karakter ini dibagi menjadi dua bagian, yakni semester 1 dan semester 2. Pada bagian semester 1, terdapat 4 buah unit dengan 12 rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran, sedangkan semester 2 terdiri dari 14 rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran yang dirangkum dalam 3 unit. Temuan lainnya dari penelitian ini yaitu rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran yang dikembangkan dikategorikan sebagai “excellent” oleh para ahli. Terdapat pula terdapat tujuh fitur yang ditemukan sebagai rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran inovatif yang baik dan dapat diaplikasikan sebagai implementasi Kurikulum 2013. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran yang dikembangkan dapat memenuhi kriteria sukses penelitian sebagai rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran yang baik, mudah digunakan, dan inovatif yang berlandaskan karakter kepada siswa-siswi kelas VII (tujuh) SMP (sekolah menengah pertama) yang berdasar pada Kurikulum 2013 (implementasi Kurikulum 2013) sehingga dapat digunakan oleh guru. Kata Kunci : rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran, berbasis karakter, Kurikulum 2013 This research was an educational research and development that aimed at developing character-based instructional devices used for teaching English for seventh grader at junior high school based on Curriculum 2013 (the implementation of Curriculum 2013). In order to attain the purpose of this study, there were three main stages, namely, stage 1 (problem determination), stage 2 (design), and stage 3 (development) that were used in this study. In addition, the data collection procedure of this research was assisted by five instruments, namely, scoring rubric, experts’ sheet, questionnaire, interview guidance, and observation checklist. Furthermore, the data obtained were analysed descriptive qualitatively. In accordance with the results of this research, it was found that these character-based instructional devices were divided generally into two semesters, which were semester 1 and semester 2. Semester 1 part was consisted with 4 units with 12 instructional devices, while the semester 2 part involved 14 instructional devices that were covered in 3 units. Another finding showed that the instructional devices were classified as “excellent” by the experts. And the last finding, there were seven features found of good and applicable innovative instructional devices as the implementation of Curriculum 2013. In conclusion, this developed instructional devices has answered the criteria of success of good and applicable innovative character-based instructional devices used for teaching English for seventh grader at junior high school based on Curriculum 2013 (the implementation of Curriculum 2013), thus this product can be used by the teacher.keyword : instructional devices, character-based, Curriculum 2013

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media membaca Bahasa Inggris berbasis komputer untuk siswa kelas VIII semester II yang dapat digunakan untuk memotivasi siswa dalam belajar membaca Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini memakai desain R & D yang diajukan oleh Dick, Carey and Carey pada tahun 2005. Dalam penelitian ini, desain tersebut diterjemahkan ke dalam tiga tahap utama, diantaranya: (1) menganalisis masalah, (2) mengembangkan produk, dan (3) mengevaluasi produk. Untuk mengevaluasi konsep produk awal, penelitian ini memakai dua orang ahli, dan setelah itu uji coba terbatas dilakukan sebagai bagian dari evaluasi. Pada tahap evaluasi dari para ahli, penelitian ini memakai 2 orang ahli untuk mengevaluasi tiga aspek yaitu isi, instruksi, dan multimedia dengan memakai rubrik yang berbeda untuk tiap aspek pada materi membaca berbasis komputer. Hasil dari penilaian ahli menunjukkan bahwa kualitas materi membaca berbasis komputer tergolong sangat bagus dengan nilai rata-rata 4,46 dalam rentang nilai 5,0. Sementara itu, tahap uji coba terbatas memakai 15 siswa sebagai peserta dan hasil dari angket yang diberikan kepada siswa menunjukkan bahwa 57,3% dari jawaban keseluruhan menandakan bahwa kualitas materi membaca Bahasa Inggris berbasis computer adalah bagus dan 22.67% menandakan kualitas materi membaca Bahasa Inggris berbasis computer adalah sangat bagus. Hasil dari penilaian ahli dan uji coba terbatas menandakan bahwa materi membaca Bahasa Inggris berbasis komputer yang dikembangkan mungkin bisa digunakan sebagai materi membaca tambahan dan bisa memotivasi siswa dalam pembelajaran membaca.Kata Kunci : Membaca dalam Konteks Bahasa Inggris sebagai Bahasa Asing, Materi Membaca Berbasis Komputer, Motivasi Siswa, Sekolah Menengah Pertama This study aimed at developing computer-based English interactive reading materials for eighth graders of junior high school in the second semester that can be used to motivate the students in their learning of English reading. This study adopted the Research and Development design proposed by Dick, Carey and Carey in 2005. In this study, the design was translated into three major steps, i.e.: (1) needs analysis, (2) product development, and (3) product evaluation (formative evaluation). To evaluate the initial draft of the product, this study employed two experts, and after that a limited field try-out was conducted as part of the formative evaluation. In the stage of experts’ judgment, this study used two experts to evaluate three domains namely content, instruction and multimedia through different English interactive reading materials assessment rubrics for each domain. The results of experts’ judgment showed a very good quality of the draft with the mean score of 4.46 out of the 5.0 range of score. Meanwhile, the limited field try-out employed 15 students as the participants and the results from the questionnaires given to the students showed that 57.3% of total responses indicated a good quality and 22.67% indicated a very good quality of the computer-based English interactive reading materials. Both the results of the experts’ evaluation and the limited field try-out indicated that the computer-based English interactive reading materials developed are feasible to be used as supplementary reading materials and are able to motivate the students in their learning of reading.keyword : Efl Reading, Computer-Based Reading Materials, Students’ Motivation, Junior High School

Abstract

This design and development research aimed at designing and developing a culture-based English e-media to support the implementation of curriculum 2013 for the second semester of grade VII of junior high schools in Buleleng sub-district. this research focused on developing e-media that is integrated with Balinese culture. The object of this reseacrh was culture-based English e-media that was developed by using Adobe Flash CS6 program. The source of data was taken from the need analysis conducted by Dewi and Batan (2015), related literatures on developing the e-media, and the result of expert judgement. The data were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative method. This research was designed based on the adaptation of Peffers et al.’s model (2007) consisted of six phases namely: (1) identifying the problem, (2) describing the objective, (3) designing and developing the product, (4) testing the product by using expert judgement, (5) evaluating the testing result, and (6) communicating the testing result. The result of experts’ judgement score showed that the total mean score was 3.8 which meaning that e-media had a good quality to be implemented in teaching and learning English for the second semester of grade VII of junior high schools in Buleleng.keyword : E-media, Culture-based, Balinese culture

Abstract

The curriculum reform in Indonesia gave a significant effect on the education system. Curriculum 2013 was the latest curriculum which implemented in most school in Indonesia. This curriculum required the teacher use the teaching and learning approach which stated in the curriculum itself. It was scientific approach which was becoming the approach in teaching, especially in teaching English. The recent study was aimed at finding out how relevant are the instructional planning made by English teacher of eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Ubud in the implementation of Curriculum 2013, and what problems the teacher encountered in planning the instruction. This research found out that the instructional planning was relevant which gathered 96.4% percentage of the completeness of the components and the format. But, there was no relevancy of the teaching and learning activity with the learning methods used in scientific approach which include Discovery learning, Project-based learning, and Problem-based learning. Moreover, there were some problems encountered by the teacher in planning the instruction in teaching English. The problems were the teacher difficult to select and arrange the activity in scientific approach and the teacher difficult to create the assessment instrument. The findings of this research will be significantly contributed in determining whether or not the curriculum 2013 implemented regarding the current issues of the curriculum 2013 implementation problems. The result of this study will bring out some significant contributions on the development of the Indonesian education in general, the instructional planning in regard to the curriculum 2013 in particular. keyword : education, curriculum 2013, instructional planning, scientific approach

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan materi ajar Bahasa Inggris berbasis budaya lokal dalam mendukung implementasi kurikulum 2013 untuk semester pertama kelas 7 sekolah menengah pertama di Kecamatan Buleleng. Penelitian ini dikembangkan berdasarkan model penilitian dan pengembangan dari Peffers dan kawan-kawan dalam Ellis dn Levy (2010) yang terdiri dari 6 tahap umum, yaitu: 1)mengidentifikasi masalah, 2) mendeskripsikan tujuan, 3)mendesain dan mengembangkan produk, 4)mengetes produk, 5)evaluasi produk, dan 6)mengkomunikasikan produk. Agar mendapatkan hasil produk yang maksimal, evaluasi produk dinilai oleh dua ahli untuk mengevaluasi kualitas dari isi, integrasi budaya lokal, dan presentasi dari materi Bahasa Inggris yang berbasis budaya lokal. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam mengevaluasi hasil produk ahli yang berupa checklist. Semua data yang terkumpul di analasis secara kuantitatif dan secara kualitatif. Hasil dari penelitian ini berupa Buku Bahasa Inggris berbasis budaya lokal dalam mendukung implementasi kurikulum 2013 untuk semester pertama kelas 7 sekolah menengah pertama di Kecamatan Buleleng. Buku ini terdiri dari 4 tema umum.Materi di desain secara cermat berdasarkan konteks budaya Bali. Konteks budaya Bali dalam buku ini diselipkan melalui gambar, dialog, dan kegiatan pembelajaran. Buku Bahasa Inggris berbasis budaya ini juga didesain berdasarkan karakteristik dari kualitas buku. Aspek tersebut dapat dilihat dari topik, aspek dari budaya lokal, dan presentasi buku yang didesain khusus untuk memenuhi kriteria kualitas sebuah buku dari Tomlinson (1998). Secara umum, para ahli menyatakan bahwa buku bahasa Inggris berbasis budaya lokal sudah menarik dan sesuai dengan kriteria yang disertakan.Kata Kunci : Kurikulum 2013, Materi Bahasa Inggris, materi Bahasa inggris berbasis budaya lokal This research aimed at developing culture based English learning material to support the implementation of curriculum 2013 for the first semester of grade seven junior high schools in Buleleng. This research was designed by utilizing an RnD model development proposed by Peffers et al in Ellis and Levy (2010). This model consisted of six general phases, such as: 1) identify the problem, 2) describe the objectives, 3) design and develop product, 4) test the product, 5) evaluate the product, 6)communicate the product. In order to reach the high qualified product, there were two experts evaluated the content of product, integration of local culture, and presentation of culture based English learning material in the form of English judgment form. All data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The result of this research was designed in the form of culture based English textbook to support the implementation of curriculum 2013 for the first semester of grade seven junior high schools in Buleleng. This textbook consisted of 4 topics. The material was designed carefully depends on Balinese culture context. The context of Balinese culture were integrated into pictures, dialogues, and learning activities. Culture based English textbook were also designed to meet the characteristic of good textbook by Tomlinson (1998). Generally, the two experts stated that the product were already interesting and appropriate with characteristic of good textbook.keyword : Curriculum 2013, English learning material, culture based English learning material

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan teknik draw a story memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kompetensi siswa dalam menulis paragraf deskriptif dibandingkan siswa yang diajar menggunakan teknik konvensional. Dalam penelitian ini, Hipotesis Nol digunakan. Karena penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah 279 siswa kelas delapan SMP Negeri 1 Pupuan. Teknik pengambilan sampel adalah dengan teknik kluster untuk menentukan kelompok experimen dan kelompok kontrolnya. Desain penelitian ini adalah post-tes dan kelompok kontrol. Dimana hasil dari perlakuan dapat ditentukan melalui post-tes setelah perlakuan untuk melihat pengaruhnya pada kelompok eksperimen yang diajar menggunakan teknik draw a story dan kelompok kontrol yang diaajar dengan menggunakan teknik konvensional. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa rerata dari kelompok eksperimen adalah 92.87 dan rerata nilai pada kelompok kontrol adalah 86.2. Melalui nilai standar deviasi, dapat dilihat melalui tabel menunkukkan bahwa kelompok experimen memperoleh skor lebih tinggi dibanding kelompok kontrol. Standar deviasinya adakah 4.7 sedangkan pada kelompok kontrol hanya 3.3. Dilihat dari rerata dan standar deviasi, dapat dinyatakan bahwa siswa pada kelompok eksperimen menghasilkan kompetensi yang lebih baik. Disamping itu, melalui tes hipotesis dapat dikatakan bahwa hipotesis-Null ditolak dalam penelitian ini. Dapat dilihat bahwa hasil t-test adalah tobs 6.292 lebih tinggi dari nilai tcv at 2.58 pada level 0.01. Penolakan terhadap hipotesis ini menandakan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kompetensi siswa dalam menulis paragraf deskriptif antara siswa yang diajar menggunakan teknik draw a story dengan siswa yang diajar menggunakan teknik konvensional. Kata Kunci : kompetensi menulis, teknik draw a story, paragraf deskriptif This study was conducted to find out whether there was significant difference of students’ competency in writing descriptive paragraph between students who were taught by using draw a story technique and those who were taught by using conventional teaching technique. In this study, the Null Hypothesis was used. Since this study was experimental group. The population was the eighth grade students in SMP N 1 Pupuan which was consisted of 279 students. Cluster random sampling was used to choose the experimental group and control group. The design of this study was a Posttest-Only Control Group Design. The result of the treatment was identified through post-test which was given at the end of the treatment to see the significant difference between the experimental groups who had been treated using draw a story technique and the control group who had been treated using the conventional teaching technique. The findings of the study showed that the mean score for experimental group was 92.87 and the mean score for the control group was 86.2. In term of standard deviation, it could be seen from the table that the experimental group had higher score than the control group. The standard deviation for experimental group was 4.7 and the control group was 3.3. Seen from the mean score and the standard deviation, it can be concluded that the students of the experimental received better competency. Besides, from the hypothesis testing, it can be said that the Null Hypothesis (Ho) used in this study was rejected. It can be seen brom the result of t-test in which tobs 6.292 was higher than the value of tcv at 2.58 at level significance 0.01.
