Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine (1) the variation of students’ fingerprint patterns and (2) the  relationship between the fingerprint patterns and the intelligence of the students based on their grade point average (GPA). The subject of this study is the students of Catholic University of Widya Mandala Madiun. The fingerprints were randomly obtained from ten students of nine study programs.  It was done by taking the fingerprints stamped on a piece of white paper. The collected data were calculated to find the percentage of each fingerprint pattern and they were analyzed using statistical correlation at α = 5%. The results indicated that the percentage of the students’ fingerprint patterns was  as follows: loop (56.89%), whorl (36.89%), and arch (6.22%). The correlation analysis showed no significant correlation between the students’ fingerprint patterns and their grade point average (GPA) shown by significant value> 0.05 of the three fingerprint patterns.

Abstract

This study discusses the conceptual errors that occur in the management of production material. The errors concern the quantity which had to be precisely measured, but was set for its value and vice versa. Consequently, the  accountability was neglected. The method of analysis was principally the correct application of mass balance in the management and control of the production material together with a proper degree of freedom evaluation.  A case and hypothetical data were used for the delineation of their application. The case was adopted  from a production department which was temporarily uninterrupted in nature. The analysis was done with the following stages. Firstly, it disclosed a scheme of simple management proposal. Secondly, it displayed a discussion on degrees of freedom in the use of the mass balance equation. The results indicated that the errors were not the quantity of observations; hence,  they were not independent. The value should be calculated on the quantities of other observations. Then, the accountability of production material management could be saved.

Abstract

It is a research on the development of a Cabri and Wingeom assisted solid geometry learning kit for the eighth year students of junior high school. The kit intended is a book containing a syllabus, a lesson plan for 9 meetings, a Cabri and Wingeom assisted student activity book consisting of 69 pages, and a learning achievement test in the form of multiple choice comprising 25 items.  Cabri program is used  to assist the learning on nets cubes, blocks, prisms, and pyramids. While, Wingeom program is used to help the learning on the properties, parts, surface areas and volume of cubes, blocks, prisms, and pyramids. The development research  employed  the 4D model which consists of four stages: (1) defining, (2) designing, (3) developing, and (4) disseminating. The subject for the research trial was 29 students and a math teacher of  junior high school. The techniques used to collect the data were validation sheets, observation sheets, questionnaires, and tests. The results of validity, practicality, and effectiveness were analyzed by converting quantitative data in the form of assessment scores into qualitative data in the form of a five scaled standard score. The products fulfilled valid, practical, and effective criteria. The validity of the products is apparent from the result of experts’ validation which showed that the products reached very valid criteria. The practicality of the products is apparent  from the results of the teacher assessment sheets which showed that the products reached very good criteria, and the observation sheets of learning process indicated that the percentage was in 96.03%. The effectiveness of the products is apparent from the result of the learning achievement test which showed that 93.1% of the students obtained the minimal score, namely 75 with the average score=84.55. While, the result of the questionnaire on the students’ interest reached good criteria with the average score=86.45.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to search (1) how the organizational support and servant leadership affect employee motivation and (2) whether job satisfaction acts as a mediating variable. Variables were measured  using Likert scale technique. The object of the research is 48 operational employees of P.T. Bank Mandiri Madiun. The data analysis made use of hierarchical regression analysis technique with SPSS software version 18. The result of the hypothesis test showed that (1) organizational support and servant leadership had significant positive effect on job satisfaction and employee motivation, (2) job satisfaction had significant positive effect on employee motivation, and (3) job satisfaction acted as perfect or complete mediation on the effect of organizational support toward employee motivation and as a partial mediation on the effect of servant leadership toward employee motivation.

Abstract

This study is intended to examine the  influence of peer group and permissive parenting pattern toward smoking behaviour. The subject of the research is  60 teenagers of Kincang Wetan village. The scale of smoking behavior was applied as a measuring tool. The data collecting employed random sampling technique. The data were analyzed using  two-predictor-regression analysis method with SPSS version 18.  The data analysis conveyed the correlation coefficient R = 0.983, F regression = 797.488; p = 0.000 (p <0.05). It proved that peer group and permissive parenting pattern influenced smoking behaviour. Consequently,  the variables peer group and permissive parenting pattern can be used as a predictor for  the smoking behavior of teenagers.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine the influence of gender on achievement motivation of the eighth year students of junior high school in problem based learning. The scope of  the research includes (1) gender, that is, the sex of the students as male and female and (2) the students' achievement motivation in mathematics, namely achievement motivation in mathematics of the eighth year students of state junior high schools of Madiun municipality 2013/2014. The aspects of achievement motivation in this case comprise (a)having desires to try themselves, (b) being fond of challenging tasks, (c) being eager to move forward; (d) being resilient to face obstacles, and (e) being future oriented. The subject of this study was the eighth year students of junior high school  of 2013/2014. This  research is descriptive quantitative in nature with research design using secondary data. The data were collected applying documentation technique. It was used to determine the gender of students and their achievement motivation in mathematics. The data analysis employed statistical hypothesis testing of student-t test. The results indicated that there was no difference of the students’ average achievement motivation in mathematics based on gender in problem based learning, which means there was no influence of gender on achievement motivation of the eighth year students of junior high school in problem based learning.

Abstract

This research is a study on the translation of ellipsis cohesion markers. It focusses on the types of ellipsis and the translation shift of ellipsis cohesion markers, the translation techniques applied and their effects on the translation shift, and the accuracy of the translation of ellipsis cohesion markers. It is a descriptive qualitative, single-case, and embedded research. The source of data consists of documents (novel Sisters and its translation) and informants (raters). The data were collected using document analysis, questionnaire and interview. The sampling technique is purposive sampling technique. The total data of ellipsis cohesion markers in the novel are 212 data. There are three types of ellipsis found in the novel Sisters, they are nominal ellipsis (51 data/ 24,28%), verbal ellipsis (36 data /17,14%), and clausal ellipsis (123 data/ 58,57%). The shift of cohesion types might occur in the translation of ellipsis cohesion markers. There are eleven techniques applied in the translation of ellipsis cohesion markers, such as amplification, literal, transposition, deletion, compensation, reduction, addition, modulation, borrowing, established equivalent, and adaptation. The meaning transfer in the translation of ellipsis cohesion markers in novel Sisters is carried out succesfully. 190 data (89,62%) are translated accurately, 19 data (8,96%) are translated less accurately, and 3 data (1,41%) are translated inaccurately.

Abstract

This study identifies the factors that influence knowledge sharing via internet. The factors are categorized into internal motivation, external motivation, and sharing barriers. It is motivations and barriers that influence the intention of sharing through knowledge sharing attitudes. The data were collected by surveying the lecturers of S-1 Program of Accounting Department in East Java. Hypothesis testing made use of SmartPLS Graph software version 2.0. The results proved that there were factors that significantly influence the attitudes, namely perceived enjoyment in helping others as internal motivation, perceived affiliation as external motivator, and perceived loss of knowledge power as barriers for sharing. The direction of influence for the motivating factor in attitudes was positive and that for the barrier factor was negative. Attitudes had a strong positive influence on the intention of knowledge sharing. But, there was no significant influence of information technology facilities and information technology support on the attitudes of knowledge sharing. This means that there were characteristics of knowledge sharing in the context of managerial information in the lecturers of S-1 Program of Accounting Department. Some non-significant motivating variables indicated that there were unique characteristics of the respondents which might be different from those of other respondents.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of students’ perceptions on counselling services and on counselors toward their interest in utilizing the services of guidance and counselling in schools. The sample of this research is 140 in number. They are the eighth and ninth year students of Catholic Junior High School “St. Bernardus Madiun” of 2014/2015. The data collecting made use of questionnaires. The data were analyzed employing multiple linear regression statistical technique. The result of minor hypothesis test applying the t-test showed that there was partial influence of student perceptions on  counselling services and student perceptions on counselors toward the students' interest in utilizing the services of guidance and counselling in schools, because both variables had the value t calculate >  t table (1,960).

Abstract

This research  focuses its analysis on the patterns and elements of arguments used by the authors in the journal Al-tahrir of STAIN Ponorogo. The method used is descriptive - qualitative in nature. The results revealed two patterns of reasoning, namely deduction and induction. In this case, induction was over deduction due to their frequency of use.  The analysis also found  some errors in the reasoning as a result of mistakes in relation or relevance and analogy. The elements of the arguments used in connection with Toulmin model were claim, ground, warrant, backing, modal qualifier, and rebuttal.  Among them, claim and ground elements were most widely used. The authors of the articles could implement the reasoning of Toulmin model because this kind of reasoning has some advantages when compared to traditional reasoning.
