Abstract

Most face recognition algorithms are generally capable to achieve a high level of accuracy when the image is acquired under wellcontrolled conditions. The face should be still during the acquisition process; otherwise, the resulted image would be blur and hard for recognition. Enforcing persons to stand still during the process is impractical; extremely likely that recognition should be performed on a blurred image. It is important to understand the relation between the image blur and the recognition accuracy. The ORL Database was used in the study. All images were in PGM format of 92 × 112 pixels from forty different persons, ten images per person. Those images were randomly divided into training and testing datasets with 50-50 ratio. Singular value decomposition was used to extract the features. The images in the testing datasets were artificially blurred to represent a linear motion, and recognition was performed. The blurred images were also filtered using various methods. The accuracy levels of the recognition on the basis of the blurred faces and filtered faces were compared. The performed numerical study suggests that at its best, the image improvement processes are capable to improve the recognition accuracy level by less than five percent.

Abstract

Proliferation of internet and social media has greatly increased the popularity of text communication. People convey their sentiment and emotion through text which promotes lively communication. Consequently, a tremendous amount of emotional text is generated on different social media and blogs in every moment. This has raised the necessity of automated tool for emotion mining from text. There are various rule based approaches of emotion extraction form text based on emotion intensity lexicon. However, creating emotion intensity lexicon is a time consuming and tedious process. Moreover, there is no hard and fast rule for assigning emotion intensity to words. To solve these difficulties, we propose a machine learning based approach of emotion extraction from text which relies on annotated example rather emotion intensity lexicon. We investigated Multinomial Naïve Bayesian (MNB) Classifier, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) for mining emotion from text. In our setup, SVM outperformed other classifiers with promising accuracy.

Abstract

Logistic sector actors need innovation to improve competitiveness in providing their best services to consumers, one of them on Warehouse Management System (WMS) because the system is used to control the movement of the supply chain. There is a problem in one of Indonesia logistics companies on the process of selecting goods, so the warehouseman still difficulties in this process. Thus, RFID implementation on WMS becomes one of the solutions to handle the goods selection process. This research uses Design Science Research Methodology (DSRM) which focuses on developing and improving the model performance of a system and using waterfall model for system development. Then the authors will analyze the test results with the validity test and reliability test of the questionnaire, and the results of the data analysis will determine the feasibility of this research to be applied.

Abstract

Induction motors are widely used in industry. Given the increasing demand for electric machines in different industries, optimization of these machines to achieve a high efficiency with low cost is of utmost importance. Loss-minimization in motor is done in three ways: 1) optimizing motor selection and design; 2) improving motor power supply waveforms; and 3) using appropriate controlling methods in drives. Often, inductive motors provide the maximum efficiency in their nominal load. In most applications it is necessary for a motor to work in light loads for a long time, e.g. in conveyors, elevators, etc. In these conditions, the machine load is not the nominal load, and a higher percentage of the input power is lost. So, in the case of variable load, the first and second methods cannot increase the efficiency; but the third method provides a large flexibility in decreasing motor losses. In this paper, the application of the third method in loss-minimization is reviewed. These motor losses are mostly related to the controlling strategy and basically occur in light-load conditions. There are various strategies to decrease this kind of losses, which are generally divided into two categories: classic methods and intelligent methods. In this paper, first the classic methods, including losses model control (LMC), flux control as a function of torque and search control (SC), are discussed. Then the intelligent methods, such as genetic algorithm, PSO, fuzzy logic and artificial neural network are investigated. This paper is presented while the last methods of efficiency improvement are being investigated and each method is described briefly.

Abstract

Indonesian government agencies under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources have problems in classifying data dictionary of coal. This research conduct grouping coal dictionary using K-Means and MeanShift algorithm. K-means algorithm is used to get cluster value on character and word criteria. The last iteration of Euclidian distance calculation data on k-means combine with Meanshift algorithm. The meanshift calculates centroid by selecting different bandwidths. The result of grouping using k-means and meanshift algorithm shows different centroid to find optimum bandwidth value. The data dictionary of this research has sorted in alphabetically.

Abstract

Travelling is one of the activities needed by everyone to overcome weariness. The number of information about the tourism destination on the internet sometimes does not provide easiness for oncoming tourists. This paper proposes a system capable of making travel itinerary, for tourists who want to visit an area within a few days. For generating itinerary, the system considers several criterias (Multi-criteria-based), which include the popularity level of tourist attractions to visit, tourist visits that minimize budgets or tourist visits with as many destinations as possible. To handle multi criteria-based itinerary, we use the concept of multi attribute utility theory (MAUT). The running time of multi criteria-based itinerary is not significantly different from time-based itinerary. In addition, the number of tourist attractions in the itinerary is more than time-based itinerary, because the combination of solutions from each ant becomes more diverse.

Abstract

Synchronous mobile robots formation control is one of the most challenging and interesting fields in robotics. The mobile robots communicate with each other through wireless communication to perform similar movement. This study analyzed two mobile robots that can perform synchronous movement along a shaped path. A square shape is set as a path for the mobile robot movements. The front robot being the leading robot transmits the instruction of its movement to the robot behind it, acting as the following robot through a wireless communication. The instruction sent by the leading robot is received by the following robot through a program embedded in the leading robot microcontroller which then drives the following robot to move and imitates the movement of the leading. The algorithm for the movement is tested on the hardware and the results of the experiment are included to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract

In multimedia transmission, it is important to rely on an objective quality metric which accurately represents the subjective quality of processed images and video sequences. Maintaining acceptable Quality of Experience in video transmission requires the ability to measure the quality of the video seen at the receiver end. Reduced-reference metrics make use of side-information that is transmitted to the receiver for estimating the quality of the received sequence with low complexity. This attribute enables real-time assessment and visual degradation detection caused by transmission and compression errors. A novel reduced-reference video quality known as the Spatial Information in Salient Regions Reduced Reference Metric is proposed. The approach proposed makes use of spatial activity to estimate the received sequence distortion after concealment. The statistical elements analysed in this work are based on extracted edges and their luminance distributions. Results highlight that the proposed edge dissimilarity measure has a good correlation with DMOS scores from the LIVE Video Database.

Abstract

A state of a perfect video game is what developers has been seeking for their product developments, to achieve the selected state, several standards and methods needs to be applied. These standards and methods are special: they are both verifiable and quantifiable, to make their action and end goal a clear one, the terms for this standards and methods are called ‘game metrics’ and we decided that this is a must-have tool or method to be implanted in a development of a game because it will boost your standards rapidly and will be able to tell you about your own progress of the development.

Abstract

Providing simple and low complexity algorithms for estimating the direction of arrival in large systems using Massive MIMO is considered an important issue. In this paper a method with reduced complexity was proposed to estimate the direction of arrival in FD- MMIMO. The Separated Steering Matrix (SSM) algorithm uses two separated equations for estimating elevation and azimuth angles of Multi-users. This method reduces the complexity of calculating the covariance matrix by decreasing the size of this matrix. This technique is tested using 2D-MUSIC algorithm. Since the mobility of devices affects the accuracy of direction estimation, thus the effect of the initial phase of transmitted signal from mobile device is tested.
