Abstract

The objective of this studywas to obtain atechnical and economic analysis of solar-powered lighting (SPL) implementation at Bali above Seawater Toll-Road. The SPL was designed to operate 12Hours/day with average illumination ≥15-lux. Those requirements can be met byan SPL unit that consists of 2-pieces 87-W LED lights mounted on 10-m double arms pole with 2.37-m arm length and 15º tilt angle. Each LED light was powered by a 260-Wp solar panel, 24V-180AH battery and 10-A solar charge controller. Every SPL unit should be installed on the toll-road median with 22.5-m pole-spacing and required 361-units to illuminate throughout 8,122.5-m toll-road length. Benefits of SPL implementation wereelectricity saving 256.15MWh/yr and carbon emission reduction 217.98TonesCO2/yr. However, the SPL electrical-based costwas 3.9 times more expensive than conventionalstreet lighting. And based onthe investment feasibility analysis using NPI and PI techniques showed that the SPL implementation was not feasible.

Abstract

Numerical simulation in inductively coupled thermal plasma was made on the temperature distribution in argon (Ar)+hydrogen (H2) induction thermal plasma torch with silicon (Si) powder injection to obtain the temperature distribution and gas flow fields. The ICTP model was used in this research because it has benefit of good repeatability and no contamination process. Interactions between ICTP and injected powder are very complicated to be understood only by related experiments. Influence of input power in ICTP was numerically investigated on thermal plasma temperature fields and powder evaporation. The temperature distributions of thermal plasma and Si vapor distribution were compared at input powers of 20 kW, 30 kW, and 40 kW. Results indicated that higher input power increases the temperature of the thermal plasma with doughnut shape but it slightly enhances evaporation of the powder at the center axis of the plasma torch.

Abstract

This paper uses a novel optimization method based on the improved backtracking search optimization algorithm (IBSA). The study is conducted for a hybrid stand-alone system composed of photovoltaic panel (PV), wind turbine generator and fuel cell electrolyzer (FC). To demonstrate the effectiveness of the IBSA, four benchmark functions are used. The result shows the better exploration and exploitation of the improved backtracking search optimization algorithm in terms of convergence and speed for system comprinsing PV panel wind, turbine generator and fuel cell. The proposed algorithm is used to optimize the annual total cost (ATC) of the energy produced and feed up the load demand. The economic evaluation of the Hybrid PV/Wind/FC system is done throughout hourly demand and daily wind speed and insulation. The simulation results justify the robustness of the IBSA.

Abstract

This paper introduces architecture of the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) networks in the function of the maritime space communications, navigation and surveillance (CNS) for enhanced navigation and positioning of vessels deploying passive, active and hybrid global determination satellite systems (GDSS) networks. These GNSS networks have to enhance safety and control oceangoing ships in navigation across the ocean and inland waters, to improve logistics and freight of goods, security of crew and passengers onboard ships. The maritime GNSS networks integrated with geostationary earth orbit (GEO) satellite constellations are providing important global satellite augmentation systems (GSAS) architecture, which is established by two first generations known GNSS as GNSS-1 infrastructures. The GNSS-1 network is the composition of two subnets such as the US global position system (GPS) and Russian global satellite navigation system (GLONASS). Both GNSS-1 networks play a significant contribution in very precise timing, tracking, guidance, determination and navigation of the oceangoing ships. At this point, both GNSS-1 networks, GPS and GLONASS, are used in maritime and many other mobile and fixed applications to provide enhanced accuracy and high integrity monitoring usable for positioning of the oceangoing ships. To provide improvements of GNSS-1 network it will be necessary to carry out their augmentation within several regional satellite augmentation systems (RSAS) as integration parts of GSAS infrastructures.

Abstract

Agile development methods have been catering the need of faster delivery of theever-demanding domain of software engineering. These methods are able to deliver value to users and businesses via fast, reliable, and repeatable process.  Planning requirements and processes takes the driving seat in a dynamic environment because the value proposition rapidly changes. This paper exhibits asystematic literature review of planning processes implementedby various agile methods in order to find the best suited agile method in terms of robust planning. Keywords: It was found that Scrum is the best suited agile method for planning processes.

Abstract

Many universities have applied e-learning on more than one LMS (learning management system) platforms such as Wordpress and Moodle. In addition, difficulties implementations in developing countries have occurred. Those are mainly caused by limitations and expensive of internet infrastructure. Therefore to increase Moodle application as an e-learning system, the paper proposed two synchronization interfaces. The first interface is for Moodle and Wordpress. This assists teachers to migrate their learning material in their blog in Wordpress into Moodle. Second interface is for Moodle portable performing offline LMS and Moodle performing online LMS. Moodle portable was installed in teachers and students notebooks. Moodle itself was installed and run in e-learning server. The aim is to improve Moodle utilization in the class. The results showed satisfied outcomes. Students and teachers could employ the interfaces easily and secure as they have to login using student/teacher ID, course ID, username and password.

Abstract

Change of internal structure or internal defect in ferromagnetic materials can produce change in Barkhausen noise, and by using Barkhausen noise signal measurement, the quality and internal defects of the material can be judged. The nondestructive testing technology is based on the Barkhausen effect, it gets the attention because of its advantages, such as rapid, non-destructive, mensurable, mainly used to detect stress, hardness, grain size, grinding burn etc.. The research status of Barkhausen effect in nondestructive testing was reviewed. Its application situation was investigated that the nondestructive testing technology based on the Barkhausen effect on stress, hardness, grain size, grinding burn detection etc., and the relationship between the MBN signals and stress, hardness, grain size, grinding burn were showed.

Abstract

To predict induction motor performance, induction motor parameters have to be known. This paper proposes 3 phase induction motor  parameters determination with input datas, such as locked rotor torque, full load torque, breakdown torque, rated motor voltage, and full load speed, which will produce optimization problems that can be solved with one of the branch of artificial intelligence science, which is  genetic algorithms, that is developed rapidly nowadays and well known has a good performance.

Abstract

This paper introduces the basic principle and calculation steps of BP neural network algorithm for classification and prediction of odor characteristic parameters. Using the PEN3 electronic nose collects the volatile components of milk and programming BP neural network algorithm under MATLAB condition. This paper validate the use of BP neural network algorithm on milk quality prediction is effective.

Abstract

High voltage insulation must be designed in such a way that it is very resistant to ageing including that from partial discharge (PD). Many studies were previously carried out on composites based on low density polyethylene (LDPE). However, the use of natural rubber (NR) and nanosilica (SiO2) in the LDPE-NR based composites is relatively new. Furthermore, the PD resistant performance of the composites is yet to be extensively researched. This work aims to analyze the correlation between PD pulse count and its related image to interpreting the effect of PD signals. The results show there is a strong correlation between PD pulse count and the statistical image. The results indicate that the surface image statistical analysis can be used as a tool to justify the total of the PD pulse count on the surface for different samples of composite.
