Abstract

Surface penetrating radar (SPR) is an imaging device of electromagnetic wave that works by emitting and transmitting a narrow period pulse through the antenna. Due to the use of narrow period pulse, according to the Fourier transform duality, therefore ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna becomes one of the most important needs in SPR system. In this paper, a novel UWB printed antenna is proposed to be used for SPR application. Basically, the proposed antenna is developed from a rectangular microstrip antenna fed by symmetric T-shaped. Some investigation methods such as resistive loading, abrupt transition, and ground plane modification are attempted to achieve required characteristics of bandwidth, radiation efficiency, and compactness needed by the system. To obtain the optimum design, the characteristics of proposed antenna are numerically investigated through the physical parameters of antenna. It is shown that proposed antenna deployed on an FR-4 Epoxy substrate with permittivity of 4.3 and thickness of 1.6mm has a compact size of 72.8mm x 60.0mm and a large bandwidth of 50MHz-5GHz which is suitable for SPR application.

Abstract

This paper discussed the new improved and modified internet pricing scheme in multiservice networks [1]. This new improved scheme is created to set up the  base price, quality premium and Quality of service (QoS). This scheme has the purposes to help Internet Service Provider (ISP) in maximizing the revenue and contribute better quality of service to the users. The objective function will be formed to set up the base price and quality premium as a vaiable or a constant. The models used are in nonlinear forms and solved by using LINGO 11.0 to get the optimal solution. The results show that for each cases of improved scheme, ISP gets better optimal solutions by varying or fixing the base price and quality premium.

Abstract

In recently, it has been developed a gas identification system consists of a semiconductor sensor array and Neural Network pattern recognition. In this study, it has been implemented a method of Principle Component Analysis (PCA) as a preprocessing of the Neural Network algorithm. The sensory array is composed of eight commercial semiconductor sensors. Three layer-Neural Network was trained with the back propagation technique within 5000 epochs. PCA could reduce the eight-dimension into three-dimension without any information losses.  The identification error rate was lower with the ratio of ~10-4 and the training period was shorter with the ratio of ~0.6. In generally, it can be concluded that the implementation of the PCA method into the Neural Network can enhance the performances of the neural include the identification rate and time consumed in the training phase.

Abstract

The realization of an analog-to-digital-conversion chip has great significance in the applications of electronic products. By considering mature time–number digitization, a new multifunction digital chip with a long time delay was designed in this study on the basis of the principle of analog-to-time conversion (ATC) and the realization of long time delay. With additional resistance, capacitance, and transistors, this chip can easily realize ATC, monostable triggers, Schmitt triggers, and multivibrators. The circuit composition of this chip was analyzed, and every module design was introduced. According to the simulation result of Hspice and CSMC 2P2M CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) process database, the chip layout (1mm2) design was accomplished by using CSMC 2P2M CMOS technology. Finally, the designed chip was applied in multiproject wafer flow. The flow test demonstrated that this new chip can meet design goal and is applicable to various digital integrated chip designs as an IP (intellectual property) core.

Abstract

In this paper, we proposed a work onrhetorical corpus construction andsentence classification model experiment that specifically could be incorporated in automatic paper title generation task for scientific article. Rhetorical classification is treated as sequence labeling. Rhetorical sentence classification model is useful in task which considers document’s discourse structure. We performed experiments using two domains of datasets: computer science (CS dataset), and chemistry (GaN dataset). We evaluated the models using 10-fold-cross validation (0.70-0.79 weighted average F-measure) as well as on-the-run (0.30-0.36 error rate at best). We argued that our models performed best when handled using SMOTE filter for imbalanced data

Abstract

There is a high demand for underwater communication systems due to the increase in current social underwater activities. The assumption of Gaussian noise allows the use of Traditional communication systems. However, the non-Gaussian nature of underwater acoustic noise (UWAN) results in the poor performance of such systems. This study presents an experimental model for the noise of the acoustic underwater channel in tropical shallow water at Desaru beach on the eastern shore of Johor in Malaysia, on the South China Sea with the use of broadband hydrophones. A probability density function of the noise amplitude distribution is proposed and its parameters defined. Furthermore, an expression of the probability of symbol error for binary signalling is presented for the channel in order to verify the noise effect on the performance of underwater acoustic communication binary signalling systems.

Abstract

Utilization of renewable energy sources (RESs) to generate electricity is increasing significantly in recent years due to global warming situation all over the world. Among RESs type, wind energy is becoming more favorable due to its sustainability and environmentally friendly characteristics. Although wind power system provides a promising solution to prevent global warming, they also contribute to the instability of the power system, especially in frequency stability due to uncertainty characteristic of the sources (wind speed). Hence, coordinated controller between blade pitch controller and battery energy storage (BES) system to enhance the frequency performance of wind power system is proposed in this work. Firefly algorithm (FA) is used as optimization method for achieving better coordination. From the investigated test systems, the frequency performance of wind power system can be increased by applying the proposed method. It is noticeable that by applying coordinated controller between blade pitch angle controller and battery energy storage using firefly algorithm the overshoot of the frequency can be reduced up to -0.2141 pu and accelerate the settling time up to 40.14 second.

Abstract

Mobile satellite communications will play a significant role in the next 5th generation mobile services. The use of high-frequency bands will be the enabler of this advancement. However, at high frequencies, excess rain attenuation causes severe signal losses and presents a major threat for the system availability, especially in the tropical region. To that end, this study presents the rain attenuation impact on mobile satellite communications estimated using long-term radar measurements in Malaysia, by exploiting the horizontal structure of rain from the radar database and simulating inner-city and highway mobile terminals scenarios. Additionally, a scaling factor was presented to scale available fixed satellite terminals measurements to mobile terminals operating at the same locality under similar conditions. In comparison to the available link measurements, the radar database was reliable enough to provide highly accurate estimates. In all simulation scenarios, the mobile terminal will depart the rainy area soon enough and experience lower attenuation statistics in comparison with the fixed terminal. The provided results will help determine the overall future system performance, especially in tropical regions.

Abstract

A low profile modified e-slotted microstrip antenna is proposed for multiple wireless communication applications. The performance of antenna is measured in terms of return loss, current distribution. The effect of variation of height of substrate on antenna impedance bandwidth is also studied. The antenna with overall size 30×50×.8m.m.3 resonates at eight frequencies which covers some important applications like GPS, wireless local area network (WLAN), worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMax), Satellite communication etc. The proposed antenna structure offers great advantages due to compact size, simple structure and multiple applications. The multi band antenna was designed and optimized using ansoft HFSS v13 simulator. The simulated result is good agreement with measured result.
